SONGKRAN | DAY 4 | Splashing water with elephants and Nana gets WILD! | Thailand | 4K60fps
The Songkran Festival is a traditional Thai New Year celebration from April 13th to 15th. The festival marks the end of the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season.
The name "Songkran" comes from the Sanskrit word saṃkrānti, which means "astrological passage." The festival is celebrated throughout Thailand, but the biggest celebrations occur in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Pattaya.
00:00 Splashing water with elephants
A popular place to celebrate Songkran is in the ancient city of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This less commercial and touristy city provides a quieter Songkran festival while concurrently, brings a unique and exciting experience by having mischievous elephants, an iconic image of Ayutthaya. These elephants are mostly found around the Tourism Authority of Thailand building, and this would be the best place to play with them. They are also given large barrels of water which they spray onlookers with.
The Songkran festival also features traditional practices and ancient customs which have been observed for centuries. The first day usually starts with Thai locals offering food and drinks to the monks at Wat Mongkon Bophit. This is then followed by an entertaining parade around the city and water fights everywhere.
While in Ayutthaya, visitors get to partake in the traditional ethnic activities like washing the Buddha using water from bamboo pipes and waking up as early as 7 am to offer alms to monks who are robed in saffron in front of the Mongkhon Bophit. All bird and fish which were locked up are also released back into the wild.
Every afternoon, during the entire festival period, water splashing takes place around the town, but especially in front of the old city hall. To get to Ayutthaya, there are buses which depart from Bangkok’s MoChit terminal every 25 minutes.

Hi, we will be attending this year's festival. Can you pls tell me what time shld we reach there, when does the dances starts? I am asking coz my 65yr dad is with me, and he wont be able to sit for 7-8hrs. Max we plan to stay there for 3-5 hrs.
Hi Sara, I have to say I went on 2022 so I cannot remember the exact schedule. Also, it was just after the reopening of India after Covid, so some information can differ. You must know that the main day of the festival is on Saturday, it's the day I recorded the video. It has a morning session and an afternoon session with a lunch break, so it can last till 4-5pm. As you can see in the video, during the festival it started to rain heavily, so the celebration had to stop around 1 hour. You have the possibility to book a chair to see the festival (paying around 1000-1500 INR each depending on the place), otherwise you'll have to sit down on the floor or stand. If you want to book a chair, I recommend you to reach the place early in the morning around 6:30am or even the day before if you have a chance. The schedule is not strict, but in my case the festival started around 8-8:30am. Hope this help since I know that there's not too much information about the logistic of festival on internet. Hope also you enjoyed my video!
@@nomadraul Hey Raul, thanks a lot your info it really helps. We have free time few days prior to festival so will go there and get the tickets. I must say your video and details in desccription is the most elaborate one, even no Indian had so much details abt d festival. Me n dad travel by self planning and getting info abt this festival was really tough. There really isn't much info about the logistics of the festival. I watched so many videos just to know abt timings etc but yours ws the only helpful one. I think you are from Barcelona. We are planning to visit in Nov/Dec. This will be our first time in europe, may be I will get in touch with you if need some help with planning. Again thanks a lot, your videos are amazing and all the best. Needless to say have subscribed to you.
Thank you Sara, you're welcome! Hope your dad and you enjoy your travel to Ladakh, I'd want to come back one day, it's an amazing place! 😄😄

El museo también habla del papel de Japón en la segunda guerra mundial en China y Corea y, sin pasarse, admite que también fue una barbaridad. En las guerras siempre pierden los mismos.

Very nice video!! May I know is this video taken both 1st n 2nd days?
Thank for your comment! The festival actually has 3 days: the 9th, 10th and 11th lunar day. The days when monks dance wearing masks are the 10th and the 11th lunar day, but the main day of the festival is the 10th lunar day. This video was taken on the main day of the festival, and it includes the morning session and afternoon session of the day (around 7-8 hours). The last day, as far as I know, only has morning session. Hope you enjoyed the video! You can find also more information about the celebration and the meaning of the dances in the description of the video. 🙂🙂
