how can you lie so easily mate, please explain how do you get all your text messages that are from non iphone users? another useless review who doesn't address the real issues and thinks everyone has all the friends with an iphone
Hey there :) as long as the iPhone is turned on I receive SMS, WhatsApp, whatever it is normally as a notification. The iPhone just needs to be turned on and connected to the internet but it doesn’t need to be in Bluetooth range. Give it a try! Hope that convinces you :)
Can you read mp4 files ?
Great video! Patiently waiting for your new videos!
Which apps crashed because of "only" 6GB ram? Thats why you chose 16GB this time? I am about to get a new Ipad... not sure now if 8GB is enough. I am not doing something extraordinary with the iPad... I want to replace my Macbook Air with the new Ipad... so I am really looking forward to your next video! :)
Hey there :) The only apps I had crash on me on their own (as far as I recall) were DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Lightroom at extremely heavy loads (e.g. playing back multiple 4K video tracks with effects or batch photo editing) but I had multiple cases where I had apps or even springboard (the iOS / iPadOS „window manager“) crash on me when using multiple apps in stage manger. I think as a rule of thumb; if you‘re planning to use 4 - 8 apps in stage manager (I.e. using a secondary screen and multitasking heavily) or if you do video editing you should consider the 16GB model. Generally speaking, I believe 8 GB should be enough for most people today but given that the M4 processor is very powerful, I expect this iPad Pro to receive updates for a comparatively long time and „age very well“. So I think future proofing it with 16GB of RAM is not a bad idea if you want to use it for longer. That said, M1 and upwards support using your storage as swap space (effectively RAM). That means that you should be much less likely to run into memory related crashes with M1+ compared to the A12Z in my previous iPad Pro. Hope this was helpful and welcome to the channel, happy to have you here! 🥳
@@FlorianBodlee Wow, vielen Dank! That was very helpful. I am not planing to use stage manager or an external display. I will use it for pretty basic tasks. I think 8GB should be fine then. I have no TV and I always wanted an OLED display so... Pro it will be. ;)
8:36 That is helping to scan documents very precisely with the help of AI.
Volume button switch was an iPadOS change, not the hardware. Been that way for a while. (At least for me)
The sensor on the front is also an ambient light sensor 🙂
The ASMR we never thought we needed it 😮 11:54
Excellent first impressions video! New subscriber and fan. I really like the style and flow of the video. Even the place you filmed it at looked beautiful. Keep up the great work.
Really appreciate all the kind words, thanks a lot! Welcome to the channel 🥳
It’s a shame you keep COMPLAINING. No one is using the iPad as a camera
Nice informative video. Question: I got the IPad Pro M2 12.9” about 2 months ago, is it worth upgrading to the Oled display? I really don’t notice blooming on the M2. I use it for notes, Netflix, CZcams and browsing the web. Sometimes Procreate too.
Hey there, happy you enjoyed the video :) If you‘re happy with the mini LED display (it‘s very nice already) and you don‘t need the barrel roll feature of the Apple Pencil Pro then absolutely no, no need to upgrade :)
Awesome! Thanks for responding.
Thanks for doing the 11" review. I bought the same one in space black. Love it!
Enjoy it! 🥳
Great video. Subscribed.
Appreciate it! Happy you enjoyed the video 🥳
Can you donate any of your old ipads to me? 😢
They stick with me as testing devices for development and will be put to good use :)
@@FlorianBodlee I will also do their good use in my engineering 😅
Did you check if the A12Z ipad worked on the new keyboard??? and vice versa?
I checked! The magnets don‘t align and it won‘t work. Hope this was helpful :)
@@FlorianBodlee oh bummer it would have been great to use the new keyboard with the older pros
You can change the setting for volume control in the Settings -> Sounds if you don‘t like that :)
Actually, this settings was removed from the following iPad generations onwards according to Apple‘s support article 102354: iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation) iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation) iPad (10th generation) iPad mini (6th generation) iPad Air (5th generation) It used to be changeable in the past but not anymore…
… can confirm; the setting is available on the A12Z but not on the M4
i also have this setting on my M1 iPad Pro..
I have the M1. Is there a noticeable difference in your opinion? Still debating on pulling the trigger
Hey there :) Do you have the 11“ or the 13“? I think from my first impressions you won‘t need to upgrade from M1/M2, especially not if you already got the one with the 16GB of RAM. M1 is plenty powerful still and my main driver was the upgrade from 6GB RAM in the A12Z to the 16GB in the M4 1TB model. The screen is obviously amazing but I think if you have the 13“ with the mini LED, that‘s already a very very good display and I probably wouldn‘t upgrade tbh… What are some of the things you do with your M1 iPad?
@@FlorianBodlee Honestly just watch tv shows in bed lol. I literally just got back from the Apple Store to trade mine in and I left with mine. I couldn’t tell the difference. 12.9 512
I just want to know whether the iPad Pro M1/M2 can connect to the Magic Keyboard M4?
Interesting! Just tried it, no! The magnets don’t align at all and it won’t attach to it. Hope this helps :)
The switching directions of the volume buttons controls has been driving me nuts! Glad I’m not the only one who noticed lol.
Even after almost 2 days it‘s still throwing me of every time I touch the buttons 😅
Can you confirm that this wasn‘t the case for M1/M2?
@@FlorianBodlee I’m sure it’s something I will get used to. The comment about it matching the Magic Keyboard button directions was helpful. But I tried turning the volume down last night and was wondering why it was getting louder 😂 As far as if M1/M2 made this change I’m not sure. I upgraded from an 11” 2018 with an A12X and did not upgrade until this generation because of the 11” not getting a better display until now.
Gotcha, so we‘re basically in the same boat :D Thanks for the input :)
U can change this in settings. IDK why it’s on by default now but at least u change change it back (well at least u can on iPad Air 5 so I’m guessing its also true for iPad Pro)
Please do a full comparison of A12z vs M4 ipad. Thanks
Absolutely planning to! What are you looking for in that comparison? What are the main aspects that are interesting to you?
That is a really good thumbnail
Appreciate it! I actually didn’t have time to create a proper one so it‘s just a frame-grab 😅🤫
I loved this review. I really hope iPadOS gets full AirPlay/Control Other Device support
Happy you liked it! What do you mean by full AirPlay / Control Other Device support? Not sure I understand…
@@FlorianBodlee if I’m playing music on my Apple TV, I can go on my iPhone, click the airplay button and under “Control Other Devices” select Apple TV and control the tv music from my iPhone Apple Music app. The iPad doesn’t appear under control other devices, only Apple TV, iPhone, and Mac as far as I’m aware. But I could be mistaken.
Just tested it, definitely also works on iPad :) When you go to the control center and click the AirPlay button, there is a button under the devices that said „Control Other Speakers & TVs“ and if you click that it does exactly what you want :) Let me know if this works for you! :)
8:45 هذا المستشعر الحراري نفس اللي موجود في الكاميرا الأمامية
The 5th element is a 2nd ambient light sensor like with the 14 and 15 pros there is an ambient light sensor on the back used by the “adaptive” flash to help it understand what combination of its leds to use when taking pictures depending on the lighting situation.
That makes a ton of sense! Thanks 🙏🏼
I think it has to do with the way the volume is on the Magic Keyboard its the same on both
Thanks for showing us the 11 inch version . Silver looks great. What spec did you get.
Happy you enjoyed the video! Yeah I love it too! I‘m nostalgic of the white MacBook and silver iPod Nano era, so I really wanted the silver one. Actually already wanted it for the A12Z but it wasn‘t in stock back then 😅 I got the 1TB with cellular version because I need the 16GB or RAM for my work with it :)
@@FlorianBodlee Hi! I am also adding a huge thanks for your video on iPad pro 11” and the choice to take it over the rest of the gang. I am curious about the workflow you are going to build with the machine. So, going to watch your further interactions with it. I am tempted to buy 512gb/8ram, but I hope that you will help me to see, if there is a really important gap between 8/16ram for iPad usage. Anyway. Be well, my friend
Hey there, really appreciate the kind words! I’ll make sure to explain in detail how I use it in the full review and I already scribbled a decision tree regarding which one to get 👌🏼☺️ welcome to the channel, happy to have you here! 🥳
@@FlorianBodlee Looking forward to see your new adventures and experiences! Put this little guy on its toes. Try everything possible to test it in your specific environment and after that, push it even further. Thanks again for your hard work and drive for selflessness in order to create something valuable for yourself and anonymous bunch of people. Have a sunny day!
Thanks for sharing Look forward to seeing more content going forward. Going to go with 512 gb as it more than ample for my needs. Just have to decide between silver or space black
The 5th one is an ambient light sensor for my understanding. It’s what gives the flash the information to change different flash settings for the new document scanning process they have.
Sounds like you’re spot on! Thanks 🙏🏼
Best review
The volume buttons changes have been around for a while I assume it started a few years ago
I guess that‘s how you can tell I skipped M1 and M2 :P Thanks for letting me know! 🙏🏻
please tell me, has Tascam fixed the problem with noise above 20khz?
Hi. Nice build and helpful video, thx! Let me ask you these questions regarding hw choice: - did you consider using a Asrock motherboards like the Asrock X570D4I-2T, X570 Gaming or B550 motherboard instead of the ROG Strix B550-I? And why did you decided to not go with such alternatives (besides price regarding x570) - would you choose the same hw nowadays 1 year later? if not what would you change? - is it still a fact that one should not go with amd5 sockel and according cpus when wanting to run TrueNas OS?
Hey there :) happy you liked the video! - I didn’t consider that, no. I used the B550-I because I was certain that it would work with my CPU and ECC RAM and I didn’t see anything wrong with it, no deeper reasoning. - I would probably go with a newer CPU today and I would change the M.2 to SATA HBA for one with at least 1 more port. I added a second SSD as a mirror for the boot pool for increased redundancy. Right now I have it connected via USB but will probably move it inside the case once I get a chance to switch the HBA :) - I personally don’t see any reason not to go AM5. Why do you think it wouldn’t be advisable? Back in the day I didn’t due to price and mainboard availability but if that’s not a factor for you, go for it! It even brings the upside that you mostly don’t need to worry about ECC because DDR5 comes with comparable capabilities by default :) Hope that was helpful!
Thank you very much,
Thank you for your warmth and genuine take on the Apple Watch really appreciate it!
This is a refreshingly proper review. Subbed
Appreciate that a lot! Welcome to the channel :)
It's unfortunate that we, the consumers, can't just stop buying these products -- I include Zoom along with Tascam -- which are designed for the cheap and, apparently, poorly made. If we continue to just live with our decision there is little to no motivation for the manufacturer to improve the designs and quality. In particular, all the interface issues asside, that there is a 20 cycle humm or some other noise in the circuitry is completely unacceptable. Whether it is audible to humans or not. A device that will record at 192khrz is meant to be used for high quality projects, sound design, re-pitching and other manipulations. The audio signal should be pristine so that post processing with filters, etc. is unnecessary. Thanks for all the work; you should not be out of pocket for this device.
Happy to hear you found the video helpful! I agree with everything you said but in the end kept it because I didn’t find a good alternative in the price range for my use case… I can’t justify paying for SoundDevices for what I do and the smaller Zoom 32 bit recorders weren’t a thing yet…
That's bleak AF
After 2 years, do you still have issues? Any new findings? PS. Your video has been most interesting sofar i’ve found regarding x8.
This is spectacular, thank you
Happy to help! 🥳
I’m curious as to the cellular connectivity of the Ultra. Is it the same as an iPhone? If your out where there is only 1-2 bars of service on your phone would it be the same on the Ultra or would it be a weaker connection ? Thanks.
Where's your JONSBO N1 NAS!?
In the next room 😄
Any thermal notes? I heard the N1 runs the drives hot?
Working perfectly! I switched the stock AMD stock cooler for a Noctua one and it’s dead silent since then and the drives are sitting at around 35 degrees :)
Great video and explanation! Would it theoretically be possible to run proxmox on the machine and setup a vm with trueNAS scale? I want to run a few more virtual machines. Ort rather separate into two dedicated machines
Absolutely! You may lose a bit of performance but it’d probably be fine! You can totally just run your VMs on top of TrueNAS Scale though! It has a qemu hypervisor built in :)
Dude, thank you for all the work you put into this. This was an awesome amount of helpful data!!
I’d be interested in a developing Apple Watch apps course!
Hello Florian! Your video was extremely helpful for me to build and setup my own NAS. Just one quick question, would you mind to share with us some useful links or info for setting up remote access via VPN ? thank you in advance!
The high frequency hum renders this device useless for certain usecases. This is definetely a hardware issue. Sadly, Tascam does not seem to care about it.
I can't get an answer anywhere, is it still not fixed?
Ok so how’s the tascam 8 doing now? Better?
I returned it yesterday - I bought it for sound design and I do not recommend this recorder - still after 2 years it has a problem with interference at high frequencies
@@marekhorvath3148 I was looking forward to buying the X8, but I guess I'm not anymore lmao. Why bother having 96k and 192k if the higher frequencies are unusable ??
Excellent case studying analysis! Based on those results, do you often toggle on and off Bluetooth or Wi-Fi when you do not have your mobile phone with you?
The 1GB of RAM for every 1TB of storage is unnecessary for ZFS unless you are doing Data deduplication. If your doing Data deduplication then you want 1 - 5GB of ram per 1 TB. This is a misinformation that's been going around for way too long. That's not to say the more ram the better typically.
Thanks for the context! I don’t use deduplication but the RAM is acting as cache and for the project sizes I work on it seems like my current setup with 32 GB works well. What rule of thumb for the amount of RAM would you recommend for non-dedup use cases?
@@FlorianBodlee really depends on use case. 16GB would probably be fine even for 100TB. Your limitations more likely to be network speeds or SMB limitations.
@@FlorianBodlee Actually that might be an interesting video going in to see how much a difference more or less the amount or ram has depending on users.
