Can’t wait to move up there. Been looking to join this club.
That place looks familiar
hahaha you can't possibly remember that place :P
Very nice 👍 riding dirt bikes is the most fun a person can have
Dang. How long did it take to lay out and cut this trail in.Lotta brush and small trees to clear.Worth the time obviously.I live in Colorado but if i was closer i would join up.I will just to have to enjoy your trails on video. Thanks.
thanks Bruce, it sure takes some work to cut trails on that land here. This particular one took about 2 month for the first 3 miles, the last 1.5 miles was existing trail that we cut some years before. We have some small corners with more open tall woods, but the majority of our land looks like this trail. Thick bushes and plenty briar stuff. I usually look like I have the chicken pocks on my arms after a cutting session. We use a powered walk behind brush cutter, while I pick the way and open it up with a machete ahead, so the guy with the brush cutter can walk through without getting ripped by the briars. It's fun hahaha
Is this in South Eastern VA? Looking for places to ride down here. Any more info on where TDR is or how to get access? Thanks!
Yes, south eastern. You have to become a club member in order to get access. We have monthly meetings, just search on Facebook or Google „Tidewater Dirt Riders“.
@@detwho7481 if the fee is paid does that grant access to the trails at any point? And is there a way to see the trail prior to paying?
@@joshbridges9234 theoretical yes but we do not ride our properties when it’s wet in order to not turn it into another Slades. During hunting season we are limited to Sunday only riding. Otherwise you have access to it all week. Currently there is no guest option available to test it. I was told they are working on it but it might not happen due to insurance restrictions. If you look through my videos there are a few from TDR. It’s aprx 18 miles at this land and 3 miles at a smaller property. All tight harescramble type trails with lots of turns.
Very nice trail. What will be total length when its finished. What country and area are you guys riding. Nice when ever dirtriders get new trails. Peace from America.
Hey Bruce, it’s in Virginia. That section came out to 2.5 miles. Total we have about 18 miles on our club land at this time.
yahoo!
Do you have a gpx file of the route ?
Sorry, but I doubt I find anything for that no more. I haven’t ridden that S500 in years.
This video does zero justice to this hill
Right? I saw your Matterhorn video. I haven’t tried that yet either.
@@detwho7481 yea I know I can make it up matter horn so the next time I go with the boys I’m gonna get that one but splatterhorn…. Idk if feel like totaling my bike just yet😅
@@TheKernables it sure is intimidating 👍
Gas, gas, gas! 😂
😂 😂 😂 😂
Another awesome video. I need to get a membership with SMDR. The hill climbs look amazing. Is the bike #12D a 85? I love your coaching style. It reminds me of myself. I can't wait for part 2.
You should, SMDR is really fun. Most hills you can find on the far east coast. Yes, the lil bike is an 85cc. I was actually going to be lazy and not even make this video, but I was forced to by upper management :-)
Great video. Thanks for posting what trail sections you were on. I have been to brushy a couple of times and have been reluctant to explore some of enduro trails not being sure of difficulty level. Posting the sections gives me a glimpse of what they are actually like as opposed to what trail signs indicate. What gps are you using?
Thanks, I never went further than I believe enduro stage 3 or 4. We always ran out of time. Those trails are not recommended when it’s wet. That red clay gets slick. I use the Garmin Monterey with the powered mount and a RAM mount. I put a battery tender plug on it to run it of the bike battery.
@@detwho7481 those trails are tough enough even when dry. I ride alone some so it pays to not get in to a situation where you could need assistance. Thanks for tip on gps . That would definitely help when exploring new trails when there is no cell service!
m.czcams.com/video/-GiLwcS8C5k/video.html&t Here’s a video of a train going over the bridge back in the 80s. It crosses Lake Gaston around 13:55. So little has changed except for the rails being removed.
Awesome hill climb, looks tough!
Very! There are dudes that ride it up, but none of us yet.
Love It! Thanks for catching all these great moments!
Myself and another buddy go out there once a month. Hope to see ya out there some time. Scott was out there with y'all I see.
Funny, we are here right now for the women ride on Sunday
No kidding! Next time you head out there, hit me up. Scott has said some good things about you and your riding skills. Give me a few days notice so I can coordinate on my end. Have a great time, be safe.
@@huskerider hahaha I’m such a shitty rider.
@@detwho7481 HA!!!
where's the girl?
LOL actually there are 2 girls, starting at min 1:00
You can't find cheaper filters than WIX in a market.. Are you sure it is a good choise?
Nope, WIX is as bad as Mahle, that thing popped the lid last summer. I believe I am changing those filters annual for failures. Now I got a Honda CBR600 fuel filter that fits. See how long that lasts before I go for the expensive aluminum ones.
I love this video. 3N comments " I AM NOT A BABY" and " I AM NOT GOING TO BE THE FIRST SISSY" are priceless. Short legs and all she did a awesome job. You all did a awesome job, the creek beds entry and exit looked steep on the video, I can only imagine what they looked like in person.
haha yeah she did great for being the first time on such trail and tip toeing her bike, besides that none of us had ridden it before. If you go to Brushy that 9c Extension is nice because its real short sections and crosses the main trails plenty times in order to pull out. 9c is a whole different beast if you look at their map. There you would not want to take a beginner on.
WOW!!! I was expecting that. I hope she is okay. It good to see that she had on all of that protection gear. I got to make it down to Brushy Mtn. That place looks like fun.
Yes, she is ok! Tiny bruise and only hurt her feelings and confidence. Brushy is the best place here on the east coast I've been to. They have everything from easy to crazy.
Looks like some pretty decent singletrack... How many miles of ST would you say is there? Also, have you guys been to Buffalo Mountain in WV or Brushy Mountain in NC? If so, how would you compare the difficulty?
hey there, we usually go twice a year to Buffalo, Bearwallow and Rockhouse. Brushy, I've been once years ago and actually planning to go back next weekend. Kairos has plenty single track but its harder to find - not much is arrowed. They have a few race event during the year from just harescramble to extreme enduro. The 2 ST on each side of the main road are pretty simple, not too steep. The extreme enduro go to the exterem (at least for me). I don't make it up on all of them but its fun to try. I would say the enduro stages at Brushy or the goat trail are comparable to the hard enduro trails at Kairos. But at Kairos you have also all the ATV, SxS, and Jeeps on the main trails as you have at Hatfield.
@@detwho7481 Good deal, I really appreciate the details! Trying to plan a trip the week of Halloween and am currently going to Brown and Brushy Mountain in NC. Was seeing if this was worth the trip as well... If there enough Hard enduro to ride for 2 days at Kairos?
@@bohembillygoats definitely enough for 2 days, if you find it all. We went in May for 3 riding days and still had spots that we wanted to explore more. Search here on YT for "Kairos River Monster", that was a GPS race they put on in march. Only issue I had was actually finding the trails. You have to pay attention left and right of the main trails. I forgot to mention the plenty rocky creek beds, those are all over the place at Kairos. White Whale being one of them with a name... I haven't tried it yet :)
Peters Mill is tons of fun on bikes!
Did that rock mountain bit on an XR400. It was fun. Got a Stroker now. Can't wait to go back with the new bike.
I love mine, the lighter the better... don't miss picking up my XR650 :)
High-five! (rolls backwards 50ft) Good video!
I have had 2 fail as well. Replaced with a bestdualsports 2-stage
I saw hat one, looks nice just pricy. Currently I still us the NAPA and it's holding up well. I also have some Honda CBR filters that have a metal ring on the seam to keep the lid on. Dimensions are identical to what the Mahle looks like.
Nice! You guys were ripping everywhere. I’ve got to go.
Rocks look fun! Line selection and tire placement is satisfying. What were your bikes, 250 strokers...
I have to admit tire placement is not always my own choice hahaha. All KTMs - I had to take my 300 2t that year, usually I take my plated 4t so we can ride some forest service rds and go to town for lunch. The other 2 bikes were a 400 and 500 4t.
@@detwho7481 i was thinking it would be a good day trip on a highway bike. That kinda explains how your buddies were riding. That’s a lot of bike for some of those trails. I may take the crf150r up there to play around, doesn’t seem too serious, make it a camping gig.
@@paintham9430 we usually stay at Little Fort at the end of Peters Mill Run. Its a free forest service camp ground. Minimalist style! Only one toilette, nothing else. First come first serve. If you get there Thursday night its usually wide open, Friday night it starts to fill up. We just were there last year in September again if you check my other videos: czcams.com/video/B98OZVsQjd0/video.html Had a guy with me that rode a lil faster and rougher trails. After we exhausted my other buddies, just the 2 of us went at it. Yeah, the lighter bike the better in that stuff, some trails are quite rough others are real easy. Me personally I would say that place is good for 2 days riding the most.
@@detwho7481 Thanks! Little fort is fancy (car camping is nice), do you live nearby? I’m only 1.5 hours from LF
@@paintham9430 I wish I were closer to any decent riding area. I am in furthest southeast corner of VA - swampland.
Hi DW. Are you back in Thailand? Did you leave? Looks like Carsten is MIA. Maybe stuck out of the country. Just got my Honda CRF 300. Im ready to injure myself😂.
Hi Mike, funny... I just watched a Thai review video of the new CRF 300 model last night. Yeah, Carsten and his family seem to be stuck in Germany. I live in the US and only visit every other year. We actually had plans this year in April to meet and ride but COVID and airline messed up that plan.
I can't believe you did trail 495 on 2 wheels - that is a testament to your riding skill! I did that trail on an ATV once and it took me 45 min to complete. All the 553 trails are pretty nice and a lot less rocky than the 493-499 trails.
Its not as bad as you might think, with a dirtbike you can pick the easiest line at the width of one tire... gives you allot more choices in those rocks
@@detwho7481 Right on, makes sense.
Have you been back there recently? I rode there back in 2017 or so, and clearly remember riding 433 on Peters Mill side as a nice mellow trail along the creek. When I went back Fall 2019, I never could find the parts of 433 parallel to the creek and ended up on 457, which was a brutal hilly rock garden.
Hey Pat, yeah we just went this year in Sept. 433 is the big wide jeep trail if I am not mistaken. I've seen on some maps some kind of hiking trail called Massanutten Mtn Trl, which seems to run by the kite launch ramp and all the way to the Edinburg Gab an on - we never rode it. But that one is on the other side of the creek. Check OpenStreetMaps. We did ride 457 this year again, its still rough and had a sign on it "will be closed" - figured "will be" means not yet :) czcams.com/video/B98OZVsQjd0/video.html - starts at minute 2-50
Man what an awesome trip! My camel pack and armor definitely saved me on that crash!
Zachery Balzer it sure looked rough
Just did that but we did it backwards , was really rough lol
I believe it, depending how wet it is its real hard to get up some of the rutted hills...
That trail use to be pretty easy when it was first cut in when Hatfield opened but last time I rode it in 2017 it was technical!!
And I forgot to mention the cameras don’t give the steepness of those downhills any credit way different in person
Awesome video Det! Can’t wait to go ride there again!
Zachery have to do Brushy Mtn next
Nice riding. Can you give me directions to get there?
Hello Mike, its west of Cha-Am. Coordinates of that lil mountain are 12.783354, 99.862849. I only go every other year when I vacation in that area but that lil mountain is full with trails. You could also contact Carsten at www.endurotours-huahin.com and book a tour to get started.
@@detwho7481 Hey mon. Big thanks for replying and providing the info. I will def cal Carsten and learn the ropes from him. Cheers and thanks.
Its funny how not gnarly this looks on video. But this trails is definitely gnarly as hell, camera dosnt give justice
hahaha isn't it funny how GoPro has that "make it look easy" feature built right in? I remember that year, I took my plain stock 500EXC with street gearing... that even increased the pain on those trails :)
yes you can bail out at the bottom to Rt 33 but there is no real trail, so its not legal and if caught you may be in trouble, and you may have to ride the creek bed. Really should not do it unless more of an emergecy situation.
I looked at that creek bed a bit since my buddy had real problems with the uphill... but we finally managed to get him up there! I've heard that the ppl living on the lil rd that leads to RT33 are not at all amused by ppl riding by
@@detwho7481 yeah we felt bad and rode out slow, tried to be quite, but had little choice as one guy was very close to heat stroke.
@@CapCityDC we just chose the hill as the lesser evil not knowing where the rock bed would lead us at that time... my buddy's bike was completely wrong set up for that type riding. That lil WR250 weigh as much as a XR650 :)
Rip it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You still alive?
how do you get to the woodstock tower? did you climb that big ass hill from peters mill trail by the campground?
yes that was the trail we took. from the campground a short right on Peter Mill and then comes on the left that lil trail up the hill. Back then it only had a name sign on it pointing that way. We only rode it up and down that one year, when we came back a year later forest service had added the motorized traffic prohibited sign to it. Was a fun short trail though.
Way too many rocks. That ain’t no fun. I’ve done enough of that over the years. Thx for posting. I’ll skip this trail.
Sonny Garcia it’s pretty much all rocks and gravel out there. Some easier some more technical. South Pedlar is more dirt trails ATV wide but has annoying many water berms that is fun to jump in the beginning but gets real tiring after a while.
I see this bridge whenever I drive down US1 and always wondered what it looked like.
hahaha I saw it plenty times when I used to come up I85 but never thought I would see it that close
@@detwho7481 I HAVE RIDDEN THE TRIALS IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, ONCE YOU CAME OFF THE TRESTLE IN THIS VIDEO HOW MUCH FURTHER COULD YOU HAVE RIDDEN? ARE THERE ANY MORE TRAILS THERE AROUND THE LAKE TO RIDE ON AS WELL?
@@chadpierce5789 I have no idea if there are more trail around the lake, I am not from that area. We hopped onto the abandoned rail road track in Dinwiddie County riding it south towards NC. We stopped because it was getting late and dark. In NC it looks like it goes a bit further but we never went back. If you look in the video description there is a link to my second video showing most of the trestle on the VA side. There were a couple interruption that you had to go around and pickup the trail a lil down the line - Nottoway river trestle was the one with the concrete wall if I remember it correctly.
czcams.com/video/-GiLwcS8C5k/video.html Someone finally posted a video on CZcams of a train passing over it in the 1980s. The bridge is at 13:48. Looks exactly the same, minus the tracks and telephone cables.
Amazing video.
was a fun trip that day, if I remember it right about 300 mi round trip for us with cool views
I recognize Rockhouse Trail 188 in there. We had all of the same struggles and obstacles earlier this year and it was pouring rain when we went through. My GoPro battery died about half way through it which was probably for the best because there would have been a lot of swearing. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I went on #188 the first time last year in April. Here is the video of the complete #188 czcams.com/video/WjPhzvviMLg/video.html. Wasn't pouring rain but it was wet and I rode my plain stock 500EXC which did not help with weight and gearing. This fall it was a dust bowl but traction was perfect, I made it up on trails that we usually only ride downhill or struggle allot pushing my bike up :)
Its shown on the maps as an Orange-double-death-diamond trail, your video says that is about the proper rating.
Pat, I had no idea what trail we had entered :) but at the end of the day when your battery is almost empty this trail sure was a challenge. I was just happy I didn’t dump my bike over some edge - that would have made my day LOL
Good shit man! Are you riding this year?
thx Edward, somehow the odds are against me lately. I'll be at Hatfield this year again.
That’s just crazy fast!
Wow!
rocks rocks and more rocks. Ive done that trail system many times and rarely enjoy it.
I don't usually go more than once a year to Taskers. I don't mind rocks every once a while. Our places at home are more sandy/muddy so that's a nice change. Some trails are rough, it's good practice for some of the gnarly trails at Hatfield.
That is some serious trail blazing!
Wow!
you come with us next time??
Det Who I would like to do this, but probably need to build some endurance first. :-)
