VanLife Slide Out Storage Platform
After our first big trip, a 9,000 mile tour all the way from North Carolina to the Montana Rockies and more, we learned that it was a giant pain to access a lot of things in our garage area: tools, firewood, outdoor cooking equipment, shovel, dog food, etc, etc. So we set out to build a cargo slide that makes access easy.
We found lock in/lock out 500lb slides by Fulterer (model 5400L) for less than $200 a pair at Ovis for a full 48” 100% extension. We had an unused aluminum bed frame we used as a support structure and attached the slides to the frame.
The bed frame also had very sturdy 1/2” plywood that we cut to size and re-used, attaching it to the frame with bolts and threaded wood insert nuts. 1/8” aluminum angles finished the assembly (with holes drilled for tie-down attachment points).
The slide was attached with 4 mounting brackets also ordered from Ovis. We used two 3/8” stainless steel bolts at the back of the slide support rail where it takes the most stress when the slide is fully extended. We drilled through the vehicle and secured the bolts with a large washer and nylock nut. Elsewhere, each slide brackets is secured with 6 1” cabinet screws that are screwed into our 1/2” plywood floor. (Foam underneath so the screws do not touch the vehicle.A small aluminum angle trim piece was installed on the front lip to protect the plywood and a small hole drilled in the front right corner to allow access to lower the spare tire (Ford Transit).
Finally, our cargo mat was trimmed to fit (with a little bite out of the corner, but we can live with that.
Total project cost (aided by using surplus frame and plywood), about $325

This has always been a very moving song for me. During the isolation times of COVID I decided to interpret this song visually and musically, essentially on my own. Gratitude to #SteveHackett and Genesis for this and all of their wonderful music. Guitarist Steve Hackett has been one of my favorite guitarists for many years. A sensitive player with a fondness for intricate harmonies and lovely me...

This is absolutely brilliant, I bought wind and wuthering on the day it was released and this is one of my favourite genesis songs. Well done to you, I love it
utterly brilliant
I love you!!! You play all
Very good Sally☺️
Such a wonderful and powerful performance! This band is just incredible!
Simply wonderful, thank you
It takes audacity , courage and talent to tackle this piece of history . May you continue to do so , for the world is in need of your wisdom . Orion .

Wow.
Un mot : bravo.
greetings and well done Sally, that was lovely... from someone who both loves Steve and recognizes the Hawker Typhoons flying overhead, alike 😊 ❤
OMG amazing !
Los amo, me recuerdan a mi súper admirado Peter Gabriel.
How I have not seen this before? Really really awesome job reproducing an amazing song...loved the imagery, the sounds and the mix! Bravo!
Absolutely beautiful, thanks for sharing your version of this nice song.
Beautiful interpretation of a song unfortunately always actualite, more than ever; . I also play the intro on the classical guitar like you and the rest of the song with accompaniment chords. You almost made me cry. We have to be about the same age and listen to Genesis at the same time. One of the most beautiful song of genesis, a little too little known! never played in concert I believe. Philippe from Sainte Maxime (France)
Very well done. Very cool.
Thank you Sally, for this, an inspiring rendition and creative film of one of my very favourite Genesis/Hackett songs. Yeah, I’m an old dude too, like many of the commenters, a fan since around ‘79 and still aspiring to be something of a multi-instrumentalist. You have a graceful and calm touch on the nylon especially, the loveliest example being the pregnant pause before the slightly hushed note that completes the melody at 1:40, and then repeated when the phrase repeats. I had to go watch some Hackett live videos and even he doesn’t do this! I’ll have to listen to the original to see if it’s there but regardless, it’s just so perfectly placed and quietly plucked. I was smiling start to finish, beginning with you trying not laugh at your cat’s contributions. That’s some good concentration! Cool to see you’re a keyboard/synth enthusiast too - those are some vintage and modern legends! I also appreciate you including Anthony Phillips as a Genesis member! His solo albums remain among my favourites - some songs being more or less half Genesis personnel. All members wrote songs that have been part of the soundtrack to my life for over 40 years: Steve - Leaving Ant - Which Way the Wind Blows Mike - At The End Of The Day Phil - The Roof Is Leaking Peter - Secret World Tony - Mad Man Moon And so “many too many” 😉 to count. S’pose I could… Once again, thank you for the shivers and congrats on such a rewarding endeavour!
Thanks so much. I really appreciate the note and the commentary on my interpretation. It means a lot. Yes, Ant. What a treasure to have his music along with the wonderful rest of the band's works!
Wonderful🙂
Wow! What a great and tasteful rendition!
Excellent ! Thanks for sharing 🎶🎸🍀🐦🦅🕊
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Watching this (from San Francisco!) and absolutely loving it!
Thank you for your beautiful gift
Wonderful job!!!
Simply overwhelming beautiful! Thank you!
This lady has penetrating charm
Really impressive production and musicianship!
Wonderfull ! Moving, beautifull and funny at the same time ...
Ba.Ra.Vo!!!👏...great, great version of an excellent song. (the 2001 images really worked...strangely enough)
thanks, Michael. Yes, it was a risky choice, but I thought it would provide a little relief from the dark theme and fit with the time setting as well as the idea of people being mesmerized by the television.
Beautiful play and visual interpretation of this fantastic song. Well done all. 😎💙🇬🇧👍
Outstanding!!!!
Incredible job . Terrific .
What a great cover, Sally! Thanks for this.
Very good version ❤
incroyable ! quel talent ! merci pour ce moment de plaisir.
Your a hidden treasure..
You re great musicien in guitar❤❤❤😊 thankssss
"The Arabs and Jews boy", yeah!
I liked it...
Tank U. so much it is just so appropriate with all these troubled times we're living right now.
Bravo Sally. Some here say that your voice is too monotone for this song. I disagree. The song is intentionally melancholy and reflective. Your voice adds another layer to the overall tone. Your guitar playing is excellent and the visual composition is interesting. This is a great interpretation and a worthy way to have spent the lockdown that the better behaved of us all endured. I thank the YT algorithm for bringing this Genesis fan (since 1974) here.
Thanks. Arabs and the Jews are too much for me too. Same for the Persians.
I really love the artistry shown here. Dimensions are explored that the original only gives as hints - but then are given life here. I commend this work, and am intrigued - Subscribed
I loved this version much. Thanks.
Hi Sally, I love your version of this song. Very clever and skillfully played. Excellent! Regards Iain.
