      Be safe on the trip home! Hope the weather is good for the journey!! We have storms predicted for us here later today. Yuck! Stacey is at a dog show, Freddi's not showing, she's here with me and the rest of our dogs. No other American Hairless entered, so no real point is taking her. So just Mother-in-laws Border Collies, there are majors for them today. Fingers crossed! I'm off to get some stuff taken care of outdoors before the rain starts so I better get started!! ♥💙💜

    It was actually cutting into my “Morning Chat with Julie Time”. 😡 But I still made time to do that. I mean I have my priorities straight ya know! 😉 I’m betting that interview with Mr.Cox went on for quite awhile and they edited it to what they showed us. You could just tell he knows what he’s talking about and wants to share what he’s learned. I agree and hope he does make the documentary. I’m so glad you were still on and saw that comment after I made the discovery. I smiled when I saw that! My friend is Famous!! 🤭 I understand and I don’t blame you. It’s funny people ask me about the videos I make, I mention CZcams and they say oh I see then never bring it up again or ask anymore. I’m kinda like “cool”! Lol Yes you did correct it in the text. It says it was a B24 not a B52.

      I'm surprised how many people I do know personally who know I have a youtube channel but have never asked for the name so they can look me up. I'd be so snoopy if my friends had a channel! 😂. But we have always wanted to just put our videos out there to attract whoever might be interested organically. I know not just everybody is interested in youtube. For me, youtube is my TV!

      @@michaelandjulie Well the way you’re doing it is working. It’s how I found you. Being snoopy. 🤓 but snooping from a long distance. 😁 And I’m that same way with CZcams, watch it more than almost everything else. Stacey will ask, “Let me guess, watching CZcams again?” 🤓

    I love seeing the Cobra, Huey, and Corsair-2. We have an Intruder in our Memorial Park. Always takes you breath away getting close to these machines. ☺️ 🇺🇸 So cool they’ve added the US Space Force, the latest branch of our military, to the park. 🇺🇸 Breath taking, simply breath taking. What a wonderful tribute they’ve created. And you did an amazing job showing it to us. Thank You Julie. I was just speechless… watching. The tears started at the same time yours did. I’m being honest!! This has been a truly wonderful series to be able to see and you did an amazing job Young Lady. You gave this countries service people an Amazing Tribute! I’m so proud to have watched it along the way and feel like I was with you the entire time! I don’t know how you can top this month. But I know you, and you will!! Thank You So Much for allowing us to go on this beautiful journey with you! I’m proud and honored to call you my friend! 🇺🇸♥️💜💙

  • @Mustang-6-The-Force

    Beautiful tribute to those who’ve fought for our country. But the parks department really needs to repair these monuments. It’s sad to see them looking like this. The Memorial Park is for those who gave their lives for our freedom and letting it fall apart is disrespect to those brave American Hero’s. I hope they fix this soon. (Please don’t think I’m complaining towards you Julie, I loved this look at the park.) The museum is really nice! I bet you could have spent a few hours in there just capturing it all. Neat little history on NAS Melbourne, really great to see those pictures! EEK!! You know you’re getting old when you see the first computer you owned in a museum. Oh My! Texas Instruments TI-99 in that one case. 👴 LOL Kinda like hearing your Prom Theme on the Oldies Radio station. LOL Ringing the Liberty Bell?? You lucky Lady!! That was so cool!! Glad it didn’t crack like the Original did right? Lots of History in that museum. I hope the kids learned a lot during their visit. ☺️ This was one of your best videos Julie. I did miss hearing you talk, the voice overs, but you did this correctly, let the sights and the music speak. Just beautiful. Has been a wonderful, educating series, and I’ve enjoyed every single one. ☺️ Thank You for all of your hard work!!

      Hi there, Rich! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! I would really like to see the documentary also. The interview online is really interesting, if you'd like to click the link and check it out. I had not heard about the B52 crash near Orlando in the 1970's. I have seen the big awesome B52 plane located at the Orlando International airport that's free for the public to come view. Man what an enormous plane!! I'm so appreciative that they set it up for us to see and made such a nice viewing area. I might never have had the chance to see one up close otherwise. If you haven't seen it yet, and if you're local to the area, I highly recommend checking it out! ✈️ ❤️🤍💙

      @@Mustang-6-The-Force you’re welcome

  • @Mustang-6-The-Force

    It’s possible Mr. Cox is correct, sabotage may not have been the cause if the three planes were all fueled with the same “bad” fuel, and logic says the same poor maintenance was performed on each plane also. But, and I’m no military expert, but I seem to recall in some cases each plane had its on maintenance crew. Near the end of the war, it’s possible staff was short handed maintenance crews worked on multiple planes… But sabotage still could have occurred, spy’s were on the mainland US soil. Interesting story Julie! Edit: Did a Google search on the plane crash and your video is the 3rd from the top! 😁 That’s Awesome Julie!! Congrats!! It’s interesting that the other two B-24’s are not listed in the Wiki page about those planes incidents and accidents. They are only mentioned as this plane was flying in a group.

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před 2 dny

      Hi Mustang!! Good morning!! I have really enjoyed learning about Mr. Cox and his opinions, as well as the commenter yesterday who asked if sabotage was the cause of these planes crashing. I wish I could say better if this was or wasn't sabotage. I don't know for sure because I couldn't really find anything out online about the other planes that went down, so I guess their wreckage was never discovered since they crashed into the ocean. There is extremely little information about those planes online, at least as far as my search went. I didn't know how to look up the specific flight information, and most articles barely mentioned them or omitted them entirely. What a shame. Those lives lost were no less heartbreaking than these. This such a tragically sad story but I felt like it should be remembered. Of course I hate to think of sabotage being a possibility, especially at such a crucial time in US history. Oh my goodness, I just double checked your google search and you are right! Our video is the 3rd result! And the 2 results higher up than our video are the article that I got much of my information from, and of course the historical marker database website itself. I am honored to be the first result after those (far more important!) results!!! You just made my whole morning by telling me that! I couldn't shoot a text to Michael (he's at the gym) fast enough! I am so pleased!! Thank you for the heads up! I'm cheersing you from my morning cup of coffee over here!! :) I'm editing this comment, so I hope you see my edit! I was walking around Eau Gallie the other day and ran into a guy I used to work with at the hospital walking his dog. He's a local to the area and was shocked to see me out & about and I told him I was on the hunt for beautiful old houses just to see them and appreciate their history. He was like, Oh, if you like history, you should go over to where the train tracks cross through Eau Gallie because a "B 52 plane crashed there during WW2." I didn't have the heart to sound like a smart ass and tell him it was a B24 instead of a B52. But I thought of you when that happened and how we have learned so much more about this town and area than so many people who are locals! It really makes Florida and Melbourne feel like home for sure!

    • @Mustang-6-The-Force
      @Mustang-6-The-Force Před 2 dny

      Hi again Julie, sorry just had to attend a 2 hour work meeting. Yippie Me! 😵‍💫 I thought the little Video of Mr. Cox was really cool. I wanted to see more of his story board to be honest, he obviously knows a lot more about the crash than we've been able to find online. From his "story" and how he started this "quest" sounds a lot like you and me. Questioning what he read on the Marker, intrigued and wanted to find out more about it. I hope he can do his documentary about it. At this point in time, there will be no way they can prove or disprove sabotage now I'm guessing, but I think it would really be interesting to see what all he does know. As soon as I saw that result when searching, I couldn't comment on here to you fast enough. I was like, "That's Julies video. Oh my, she has to see this right now!!" So glad you were still around and saw it so quickly. Way to go Julie!! Proud of you Lady!! 😊 Yep saw the edit, would have missed it if I hadn't had the work meeting, so maybe some good did come from the meeting right?🤓 Oh you should have told your ex co-worker about your video! You wouldn't have come off like a smart-ass at all. At least I wouldn't think that way. And besides you even said B-52 in the intro so.... 🤣 Or you could have said something about the rock group. "Oh they had some really good songs!" LOL But you're right, we are learning more about your town than the locals and I think that's really awesome! And I've only been in Melbourne for about a couple of hours two years ago. LOL Dick's Sporting Goods and we ate somewhere, don't remember where. LOL

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před dnem

      Yuck work meetings! They are the WORST when you are a night shift person and it's cutting into your sleep time. I don't know how that's not illegal! I wonder if Mr. Cox still lives in the Melbourne area? I thought I found his Facebook page, but I didn't want to be super creepy and stalkery so I just dropped that lead. I did think about contacting him though, as he obviously loves talking about this story. There's a James Cox that pops up quite frequently if you're looking up historical markers all over Melbourne, because he took a lot of the photographs of the markers and locations that are listed on the hmdb website! I really hope he gets to do his documentary, if he hasn't done so already. I'd love to watch that! I feel like he knows more than he said in the interview possibly, or at least has good suspicions. I am still so happy about being the 3rd google result! That's like 2nd runner up HAHA. That just made my day yesterday! The only reason I didn't tell the coworker about the video is I knew in no time everybody from my old job would be watching our videos LOL. I love making videos and putting them out there, but I haven't told anyone that I know personally what our channel is called. I wanted it to grow organically, and besides I see these people regularly and tell them all the cool things we've done! Only my grandma and my brother and sister in law watch our videos LOL. I definitely didn't want the whole hospital on the channel, although I know they will more than likely eventually find our channel. Maybe some day, or if we move out of the Melbourne area, then I'l l tell them! :) I was annoyed at myself for saying B52 in the intro. I had practiced sooo many times to say B24 (I'd never even HEARD of a B24 before this marker!), and just knew I was going to mess it up. I did correct it on the screen in editing though, right? I remember correcting it, but sometimes things I type on the screen don't get saved. I've had to reupload more than once when I realized some text didn't make the exporting!

      Hi there, Mark! I appreciate your feedback on this video. I grew up in North Carolina, and I have visited Richmond, Savannah, and Charleston many, many times, although that was long before we started a CZcams channel. (Charleston is my favorite of those 3. My best friend's grandmother was a docent at Middleton Place in Charleston, and I have great memories of spending weekends in the summer at her house). I live in Melbourne, Florida now, and I am enjoying learning about this area just as much as I enjoyed the Carolinas and Virginia. For the month of May, I am finding historical markers from the app Explore Here and using them to find locations that have been listed as important in order to learn about them, whether or not they are even still standing structures. I personally don't discredit the age of any town & its history, and I enjoy how young Melbourne is and how fast it developed just as much as I enjoy the hundreds of years of history in the cities you mentioned. Since starting this channel, I have taken the vlog to Greece to see the Parthenon and Delphi, to castles and abbeys in Ireland built in the 1300's, and to Sweden where I saw a 400 year old warship that was only recently pulled out of the sea. Thank you for commenting. I hope you find more historical videos more to your liking. Have a great week! :)

      @@michaelandjulie Charleston is the most historic, but my heart goes to Savannah. A planned community from the colonial period is a real gem. I also like Savannah's approach to preservation and development. Richmond is underappreciated, as a historical city. Being close to DC works against it in that regard. I grew up in Boston, very historic but got on the preservation bandwagon a little late. I live in south Florida. Florida hasn't respected it's history. Developers call the shots here. St. Augustine is cool but small, not that well preserved.

      @@markrichards6863 I agree Mark, Florida hasn't respected its history like most other states continue to do. Julie has mentioned several times in her videos this month about the lack of history, the youth of Florida in general, and how a lot of folks really don't know much about the state. That Melbourne was once almost destroyed by a fire and has since been "rebuilt". I've found this series fascinating, and love learning about the area Julie is concentrating on. I agree with you on the historical cities you've mentioned, Savannah, and Richmond are wonderful to visit, as I'm sure Charleston is as well. (Just driven through.) Good morning, Mustang! I hope there were a lot of visitors this week also. I think this memorial dedication is just beautiful. So glad to know that it is here! I had driven past it on the highway hundreds of times and never even noticed it.

      Good Morning Julie! I wonder if the orange colored peach "throws" people off? Maybe think it's just and advertisement of some sort? It's not what people think they would see at a memorial site, even in Florida. Did you ever find out more about that part of the park?

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před 3 dny

      Sort of! I don't have anything concrete online I could link, but someone told me they think the peach was originally a fruit stand or an ice creap shop, something along those lines (walk up & buy food). It wasn't always here though, it was moved here from somewhere else. Wish I knew more! It's SUCH a cool little building!!!!! 🍊

      It does remind me of roadside stands I remember from my childhood driving to and from Florida. And probably why when I think of Oranges, I think of Florida. The uniqueness of it just says "FLORIDA". You see it, you know where you are. Although as its a peach you might think you're in Georgia. LOL

    Perfect Music!! Anchors Aweigh! My youngest Brother served in the Navy, and worked for and with the Navy for years. He went to Boot Camp in Orlando. Was stationed in Washington State. He worked on the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. Go Navy! This was the PERFECT video for Memorial Day Julie. While we need to remember all who served, this day is the day we think of and pay tribute to those who gave their lives for our country. May God Bless their souls. And we thank them for their sacrifice. This was great! Glad it was your favorite video too! And just so you know, I just bought the book. ☺ Now you'll know what book I'll be reading on the beach later this year!! Thank You Julie for this wonderful video!!

      Good morning, Mustang! I would like to say thank you to your brother for his service from the bottom of my heart. Go Navy!!! He wasn't too far from where we live now! I put all of the military related videos that I had from May to come out the week of Memorial Day. I just felt they all deserved to be together. These were some of my favorite videos to make because listening to the music just gave me chills. I must have forgotten a conversation we must have had... what book? Is it the one related to the Naval Air Station?

      Oh yes, it's the book you mentioned in this video about NAS Melbourne. It sounds like exactly the type of non-fiction book I love reading. Have been reading different books on NASA recently, always thought it was a great way to learn about what "really" happened, especially when written by people who were there. 🙂 When my brother graduated Boot Camp, I drove from Virginia to Orlando to watch his ceremony. Was my first time to visit Florida on my own. Also the first time I was ever in North Carolina too. 😊

    Still find it interesting learning about the Ais and them being erased from history. Digging up their mounds, while I understand why it was done, was a bad thing. At least some of their history is preserved. And thanks to you and this channel, is opening the eyes to people about the People who lived in the area a long time ago. As you know, I LOVE Merritt Island so seeing it is always very interesting to me!! Thanks Julie!

      Hi Mustang!!! Haha yep, Merritt Island is near and dear to my heart. Not just Playalinda (although that's what got me going there so frequently in the first place), but the wildlife refuge at large. Absolutely beautiful. So much beautiful swamp too. I really enjoyed visiting this spot, which I would have never known about if it weren't for the marker. I'm so glad you are enjoying these videos. The series is almost over!! Have been looking forward to this one Julie! ❤💚💜❤ That Ice Plant would be amazing to see inside back in the day. Loved the story about how residents would bury the blocks of ice under ground waiting for Sunday, then would dig it up and and make hand cranked Ice cream for the family. My grandparents would make hand cranked Ice Cream for us when we were growing up. Spoiled us, as we've never been able to find Ice Cream that tasted as good as their home made. 💞 The school, theatre company building has similar look and or feel to the Ice Plant. Interesting. I bet this buildings inside "look" history is very interesting also. Love the look of the older Florida homes. Whenever I see homes like those, I think "Florida." 🙂 I'm guessing you're like me, would much rather see the old Orange Spot Inn hotel rather than the more modern Complex they plan to build there now. I miss seeing those Architectural Wonders of the days gone by. 😒 So glad you "walked out of your way" to look for that one. 😂 The Miles Building, Melbourne Arcade, is something. Can see why its one of your favorites. THAT is how I love to see historical buildings treated, and preserved. That was fun to see! "The Royal Tin-Can Opener" made me laugh out loud, honestly. What a title! No wonder campers have had the reputation that still goes on today to a point. I agree with you, the 1900 Building's (Melbourne Hotel) back is beautiful! Even though it's changed several times, still looks awesome! Off topic: Have to ask about your hat. 😊 That's so cute how your pony tail sticks out the back. Where might I find that style hat? Sorry, just think it's so cute Julie. Okay back to our tour. I thought Church right away when you went across the street. 🙂 Love the corner where the His Place Ministries sign is. Love that look! That whole building just says, FLORIDA! Wow the first Hospital in Melbourne, you'd think there would be a lot of info out there about it. Even if it did only operate for 9 years, that's still history that needs to be remembered. Good looking building too. Glad its still in pretty good condition. Oh yeah the House. He loved the Manatee's and wildlife, was a musician, band leader, and built a beautiful home. Can see why you love it. 😊 And of course he was from Indiana. ☺ The tie-ins keep happening! Worth every second of watching, I kept going back and watching parts again! GREAT JOB JULIE!! Thank You so much for this tour!!

      Hi Mustang!! This video was one I really hoped you would appreciate and enjoy. It took me longer to film and definitely to edit than any other video in this series, but I wanted to be sure I hit up EVERYTHING in case there was anything that would peak your interest! As far as I know, this is all of the markers in downtown Melbourne. There were a few near the Lagoon that I skipped because the buildings were long gone. The Ice Plant was the building that inspired me to walk & drive around town looking for buildings to show you, because I figured you would enjoy its architectural style. It's one of the first buildings that really popped out to my eyes when we first moved to Melbourne. It's just so different from anything else down here, and I love that retro look it has (sorry I don't know the correct term for its architectural style!), and I always find myself keeping an eye on it while going past on US1. Even when I'm behind the wheel LOL. I wish it could be preserved and turned into something really cool. Sadly it's been abandoned like this for a long time, and it doesn't look like anything is going on with it right now :(. We had hand cranked ice cream when I was growing up, and you're right, there's nothing like it these days!! I wish I could show you inside the school/theater. It's beautiful! We've been inside once for a theater production, and the inside is original and preserved and beautiful! Lovely lobby with a gorgeous bar and area to sit and sip your drinks before going inside the auditorium. It's so beautiful inside! Someone left a comment the other day to let me know that those missing markers for Orange Spot have been reported missing for over a year. I saw the comment on my app, but it disappeared before I had a chance to respond. At least I can't see it on my end anymore. I'm glad the markers were reported missing, perhaps will be replaced. I don't know how to make a report myself. I should have photographed every marker and uploaded it to the app since some of these pictures are decades old or the markers are long gone LOL. But I couldn't figure out how to do that, so oh well. It was nice of the person to let me know that, but I never had a chance to respond to their comment. Miles Building is my favorite downtown on what should be called Main Street. (Main Street in our town is called New Haven, I don't get it, but oh well LOL). It's just so jazzy! I really wish they would paint it like some Florida hot pink or hot orange with yellow or teal window accents or something. It could really POP! The gray and red is okay, but I always get slight Ohio State vibes, which I'm sure is not what they were going for. I think we should embrace its funkiness and get wild with its colors!!!!!!! Royal Tin Can Opener!! I thought you would like that!! Took me a couple takes to say that without cracking up out loud LOL 1900's building... okay it's still in use as a professional setting but hear me out. It's prime real estate, right on the intersection of Main Street (that I refuse to call New Haven) and US1. HOW COOL WOULD IT BE if they painted it orange & teal and put flamingoes in all the windows and maybe some enormous hibiscus plants in all colors in pots out front... this buildings could be AMAZING! Everybody would want to move their business in!!!! My Hat!! Michael and my brother & sister in law give me so much grief over that hat LOL. They say it looks dorky! But I don't care, it's cool and allows breeze on my head and keeps my pony tail secure and protects my face and neck. I LOVE THIS HAT! I've had 2 now, and it comes in lots of colors. I got it on Amazon for cheap, I think I paid 15$ for it. It's called a "Muryobao sun hat" and I highly recommend! Even has a string under your chin so that Playalinda breeze can't blow it off your head! :) That church was beautiful. Too bad it doesn't look very authentic to its age anymore :(. I really liked the old hospital though. I think they're doing great preserving that building! I am SO GLAD you enjoyed this tour!!! Of all these videos, I had you in mind for some of them, and this was the one I made especially for you!! :)

      Hi Julie, I agree about the Ice Plant. While most people would consider it boring and nothing to it, just a regular looking building, the words ICE PLANT stood out and made me want to look more at the building. It's obvious renovation has occurred, but it appears they have always attempted to keep the original look as best they could. The history of that building is fascinating, and I'm sure there is a lot more that has been lost over time, Florida being taken over by developers that even Michael has mentioned. 😠 That building could be used much like the Miles Building I was thinking when you walked through Miles. That would keep it alive! I can only image what the inside of the school looks like now. I'm sure the interior puts the exterior to shame. The inside of old theatres, and auditoriums, when done correctly are amazing to see. LOL Ohio State vibes, now that you said that, I see it too. I really really like how that building is being used. Hope that sometime in the future they get more tenants and it really becomes a "place to go to." Your color choices are interesting, and I can see why you like that. Some of the other building that "pop" because of the colors do make them stand out and people take notice. But I wonder if it would somehow affect it's history? But I do agree, it would make it more noticeable and perhaps even attract more tenants. I wondered how you said "Royal Tin Can Opener" with out laughing. Now I know. LOL I had to stop the video because I was laughing just hearing it.. 😂 What struck me most about 1900 building was the rear of the building. I wonder how many people have been by the front of the building and have no idea what the back looks like? To be honest it looks like two completely different buildings. The front does need something that screams "come see us!" Your idea just might be what it needs! I know the hat was WAY off topic, but when you sat down, I saw your pony tail, I just love that look! It's not Dorky at all in my opinion. Sorry Michael, and your Bro and his wife, they just don't understand right? Not sure what Stacey would think of it, but I want to get her one for the beach to help protect her shoulders. And when she puts her pony tail through the hole in hats she has worn, I just think its' so cute!! BRB, I'm looking on Amazon for the hat now. ☺ Ordered 2, Pure Sky Blue and Pure Beige should arrive tomorrow. I think she can wear them while gardening too! She's already fried her shoulders a couple of time this year. I did like the look of the hospital building, just a shame it isn't really thought of as the first hospital in Melbourne. I mean it is, and people know it but, in my opinion needs to still have the "look" of a hospital. Still a good looking building, glad they are still using it. Old hospitals are as ore point in our town. Long story, but they built a new one, and plans for the old building kept changing, stood empty, then finally torn down completely. A lot of us around here were born in the building, didn't want to see it turn to ruins and torn down. ☹ I've watched it twice so far, and once again THANK YOU so much for thinking of me while you filmed this one. I know i say it often but it really does mean a lot to me Julie!! It Really Does! Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I love this tour!! You know, we're going to have to go down to Melbourne when we come down, just have to see the sites in person!!😊

      Good morning Mustang!!! I sure wish they would salvage the Ice Plant the way they preserved the Myles building. It deserves saving for sure! I guess if it has one flaw, it doesn't have outstanding public access. It's right off of highway US1, but kind of in a bend in the road, where another road dead ends into the highway, and visibility isn't the best, as well as people are always flying down the highway. Might deter developers from putting a lot of retail shops in there. WHICH IS A CRYING SHAME! As far as colors affecting the building's history, I guess maybe that's a concern. But the more attention drawn to the building, the more people will love and want to preserve it! After all it's just paint, and could easily be removed. I'm so bummed I couldn't find the Myles building historical marker :(. You are so right about that 1900 Building! It kinda looks like nothing special from the highway and the major intersection where it sits. Its backside is definitely its best side! Unfortunately I think a lot of people miss that, if their eyes are on the road and they're just zipping past. You almost have to pull off of New Haven into the parking lot before you notice just what a unique building it really is. Again, a shame. I'm so glad these places have historical markers (even though I couldn't find the marker for 1900 either!), but I do wish they were a bit more visible & accessible! No wonder like that guy said in the comments yesterday, Florida hasn't really done enough to preserve its history. I never even really noticed the 1900 building before starting this series! HAHA I'm so glad you ordered some sun hats!!! I hope you love them!! At least Amazon does easy returns if Stacey doesn't care for them. Like I said, I love mine, and wear it all the time if I'm not wearing a big sunhat. I really like it and they're cheap! Can't beat that with a stick! I want to do a video for June on Jim Morrison sites in & around Melbourne. I know he was born at a hospital here in Melbourne, but I don't know exactly which building it could be. (It's not any of the hospitals that are currently operating in town these days). It could be this building... I'm not sure and not entirely sure how to look that up yet, but I'm on it, don't worry! What a shame that they tore your old hospital down. I had a great time with my brother one time exploring an old abandoned hospital. There's sooo much energy in a building like that. It's just awful that there's so often not the funding or interest to save them. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video!!!! It means the world to me that you are enjoying the series so much! I kind of thought & hoped you would, since you love history and architecture so much, but it means so much to me that the effort I put into these videos isn't wasted, and someone else enjoyed them as much as I did learning and making them!!! :). Thank YOU for all of your continual support and encouragement!!! You inspire me so much and I'm so appreciative of your kindness and fun comments on our channel!!!! :)

      I agree. The Ice Plant needs to be preserved. More people need to know and understand what that building really meant not only to Melbourne but Florida. All we saw was the outside, and that wasn’t boring at all to me. Just the opposite. 1900, they’ve put so much effort into the rear of the building, and the Front looks like an old, boring building. Not at all eye catching. That needs to change. 👍 You’re the perfect example of why. You had never noticed it, had no idea. It’s not really an Architectural “Blunder”, just misplaced in history and the city has ignored its potential in my opinion. I hope she likes them too. 🥰 Hmm he was born on December 8th 1943. Do you recall the years the 9 years the hospital was a hospital? Now I need to go back and watch the video again. LOL. I knew he was born in ‘43, same year as my parents. But didn’t know he was born in Melbourne. His dad was in the Navy, so maybe was stationed at Melbourne NAS at the time. Another tie-in! But I’m sure your research already knows this. 😉 Now I need to listen to the Doors music some more. 😉 ☺️ That’s so nice of you to say! I am really enjoying our “time” in cyberspace together. You’ve opened my eyes to so many things, Michael too! It means so much to me that we’ve connected like this and continue to look forward to talking each day. ♥️💜💙

      good morning Mustang! Have your sunhats arrived yet? I'm so excited to hear what Stacey thinks. I never thought to ask if Stacey watches our videos with you or if you've told her about us, I'm sure you probably have. I hope she likes the hats! Like I said, I get a lot of grief for wearing them from Michael, Marshall, & Mari, but I don't care what I look like in the hat. It's comfy, cool, and protects my face and I LOVE it! I like how you ordered her 2. Never occurred to me to get more than just the 1 I have. I think I"m on my 2nd or maybe 3rd one now, but I always got the same color. Maybe they'd give me less grief if I had some different color options LOL. No I don't remember the exact years this building was a hospital, I'm not sure if that information was public record or lost to time? But I did find out what I think the building he was born in was! It's not a hospital anymore, it's some kind of doctors office now, but apparently there are lots of newspaper & internet articles about Melbourne being the birthplace of Jim Morrison, and I found a picture of the building and know exactly where it is. It's almost right next door to that weird looking 1900 building, it's front side, the boring side, LOLOLOL. I do love The Doors, so this is exciting!

  • @Mustang-6-The-Force

    Finally catching up. 😊 I was thinking as you were doing your voice-over, I find it very interesting just how many tie-ins keep occurring. The Gleason's, Louisville Kentucky, even the name Eau Gallie, "Rocky" Water, Trains. But it does make sense, as the history should all tie-in together, explains why things happened the way they did. But the tie-ins to us personally just Has To Mean something. 😃 Agree it sure did look like a beautiful Day! Such a shame you couldn't go down there and hitch a ride. 😊 You would have fit right in. Cute and interesting video Julie!👍

      Weird but also makes sense. I mean history always seems to tie it's self together eventually. And the fact that your two states, and Ohio and Indiana have come up a few times too. Those states pop up more often than others it seems. You'd almost expect to hear about New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, the big city states to be mentioned more often. I just think the KY and NC tie-ins mean you and Michael belong there. 😊

      Hi there to both of you! Yes, it was a really cold winter here in Florida! This has been our 3rd spring since moving here, and it's been noticeably less warm than the last 2! We moved here from North Carolina. Where are you from & how long have you lived in Florida? I hope we can cross paths in the parks some day! It's been awhile since we visited the others besides DAK! :)

      @@michaelandjulie we moved a few months ago from Missouri. My husband - Emmy’s dad - passed unexpectedly right before and so we moved here for our health issues. I think you watched our video on that, maybe? My brain is pretty foggy from the grief process and moving to a new state and all those things. You left a very beautiful comment on one of our videos though and it touched our hearts so much. Thank you. ❤️- Heather @michaelandjulie

      Hi Heather! I am so so sorry to hear about your husband. Yes, I did watch that video and knew that he had passed away, but I didn't realize it was so very recent and you guys were so new to living here in Florida. Welcome to Florida, I hope that the sunshine and good vibes of the Orlando area are good for you guys while you're going through the grieving process. It's a long & hard & slow process, I know it. It never gets easier but it does become less painful in time. I'm so glad you have each other and such an obviously close relationship with each other, and can help each other through this time. I hope to run into you both in the parks some day and ask if I can give you a great big hug. For now, virtual hugs through the computer screen. My heart is with you both today and I hope you're having a good weekend spending time together doing something fun & making memories <3

    Wow you did seem to learn a lot more than what is printed on the Marker. Pretty interesting also. And I bet there is more info on the Ais and this mound at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. Another reason why you need to visit the Smithsonian. Hint Hint. 😁 Going to talk you into going there eventually. 😂 Today I went to Google Street View along with the "Map" view of the site. The image was taken in June of 2019, or just before Stacey and I visited, Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral, Cape Canaveral, and of course Playalinda. It looked exactly the same as when you were there a few weeks ago. We didn't go down that street, but what a view!! We should have!! I wonder what the Ais thought about the first time they saw the Manatee's in the river? 🤓 I know, I think of the weirdest things sometimes don't I? LOL I think it's really cute you were distracted by them though, we all know how much you love your manatee's. Another Awesome video Julie!! Thank You !!

      Good morning from my coffee cup, Mustang! I hope you're getting kicked off to start a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! You are right, Smithsonian needs to make it on the to-do list if it's as awesome as you say it is, and if they have more displays on these indigenous people that I'm getting so interested in learning about. It's one thing to visit a museum and learn about native people that are from an area you've never been, but completely different when you are visiting from the place where they lived and you realize how much the world has changed right in your own backyard! Can you imagine the river during Ais times? The water would have been crystal clear bluish green. No pollution from NASA, no churned up muck from all the dumping, no pharmaceuticals, no trash, no plastic, no litter. Just crystal clear water and gentle manatees and the occasional dolphins and rays. I would just love to have been able to see that. Sadly the water is pretty gross now. I'd give anything to swim in the lagoon but don't dare LOL. It's against the law to play with the manatees in the water, so probably a good thing I'm scared to get in, because there's no way on god's green earth I could resist pretending to be one of them!

    Hi Julie! I do hope you get to take a tour of the house, but unless your guide is good as Mary was, may be a disappointment. She was a great guide. Still would be a great idea to give us a tour sometime. I’ve seen statues made from tree trunks a lot more over the years, usually made with chainsaws, and always thought those were interesting to see. Some are made in a shop and transported to the location. Others created right there where the tree once stood. My little sister is into dolphins like you are with manatee’s so when I see dolphins, or manatees now, think it’s pretty cool. And you’re right, Melbourne Beach is pretty cool place to see. ☺️ Trust me Julie, I’m not looking this stuff up to prove ANYTHING you’ve done is wrong, you’ve intrigued me to find out more about it. Like I honestly don’t know much about the area, so curious to “see” where you’re at and what it looks like in the surrounding area. (So cool we can do that on our computers, phones…) Sometimes I’ll see or read something before you mention it, and I then know I’ve found the right place. My engineers brain just wants to know more about it. 🤓 The pier train was a great example. After seeing where it was, the straight line it ran, which is now the road, then I saw the other “end” tracks on that side. Never would have known that until you opened my eyes. And I also wondered why was there a railroad track going across that short distance. But your research explained how and why they did it. Pretty smart! But how many people know this part of history? How many people see it and wonder why? Well we know why now. 😉 Sorry you’re out of markers too, but I’m sure there are still plenty of history of the area that doesn’t have a marker yet. May have one in the future. Old buildings, schools, post offices, hospitals, even banks. I’ve always liked buildings that were “something else” first, and now something completely different now. The barbecue restaurant for example. In a small town not far from our home, there is an old brick building that has a concrete header over the front door the says, BANK. And it’s someone’s home now. A friend lived in an old home, that during the Civil War was a generals headquarters. An old post office up here was a High School Football Hall of Fame for awhile. (Now I think it sits empty. 😥) Stuff like that intrigues me. And sometimes hard to find out about its history. Trust me, I’ve been thinking. LOL

      Good morning Mustang! We're up bright & early to make that drive to Playalinda today! My dad used to follow a guy in Daytona Beach who made chainsaw art and sent it all over the country. There was a really neat totem pole carving in North Carolina near where I live that this guy made. I have accidentally driven past his house/studio before while in Daytona Beach and knew right away who it was! Very distinct artwork, even though I can't remember his name. I should look him up as a matter of fact... I think it's so NEAT that you look all this stuff up! I don't know anyone else I can have a conversation about these kinds of things with. Michael thinks the videos are cool, but he's definitely not the hunter gatherer I am when it comes to wanting to see them personally and be on the spot, and then research as many minutes of talking time as possible HAHA. Sometimes I get 12 minutes of footage of a marker that's kinda ho-hum, and then it's a real challenge to see what else I can find that wasn't even mentioned on the marker. It's been so much fun for me, but multiplied exponentially more fun because you've been so enthusiastically involved with each video! Not only do "how many people know this...", but also how many people care? Or would just be like WhAtEveR if you tried to tell them? I am loving how when I visit historic places now, the connections are already being made and we have a base to build of knowledge to build on. If we ever move to another part of Florida, I'd want to start all over again and see how much I could learn, and what parts of those knowledge circles overlap things we've learned here! Like you said, our favorite trivia place was the original Eau Gallie Bank (we showed it in our St. Patrick's Day video, but I skipped it in the historic buildings of Eau Gallie video from a few days ago since we'd all already seen it and it doesn't have a marker). I'm doing a walk around downtown Melbourne video this upcoming week and you'll see lots of buildings that were originally one thing (usually a hotel or boarding house) that have been turned into other things. You're right, that is a really cool thing to see. I probably would never have paid anywhere near this much attention to external buildings and architecture if I weren't watching & filming after meeting you! :)

    • @Mustang-6-The-Force
      @Mustang-6-The-Force Před 9 dny

      That's cool! If you do end up finding the guy in Daytona, pass it along, I bet he's got some really amazing artwork to see and made with a chainsaw! I'm so glad we found each other too, it's awesome we can chat about different things and obviously we both love to learn new things. I'm tickled you've looked at buildings and architecture differently now. Appreciate the "art" in buildings. People look at them and think or say it's cool looking but not really pay attention to the details that make it special. I just really enjoy learning new things and as you know especially about Florida and this area. And if you and Michael move to another area, you know I'll still be right her following you along in the adventures you take. I love how you challenge yourself to do this. Even if the Marker isn't what you hoped, it's still fun to watch. Today's video, is a perfect example of that in Cape Canaveral. Not much there, Marker didn't help much, but you still turned it into a great adventure because of the manatee's. 🙂 I remember the Bank and your fav trivia place. Not sure if we mentioned it back then or not, but thought that reminded me of the bank in the town close to us. Banks especially intrigue me, I always wonder if the vaults are still there? LOL I bet the Walk through Melbourne is going to be a favorite of mine, can't Wait!!

      I would love to visit his shop and make a video out of it, if he would be open to that idea! It's on the list of things I'd like to do next time we make it that far north, although I don't know if that will be anytime soon. We are coming up on some big decisions over the next few weeks and also traveling back to North Carolina unexpectedly this weekend, which is GREAT, since it's a long holiday weekend, but I don't know when I'm going to have time to get up there. I've been wanting to go back to the Bucee's too! We are running low on our favorite "HARD CORE CARNIVORE" seasoning we get at Bucee's LOL. I know I say this in response to your every comment, but Memorial May was so much fun for me and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was a nice distraction from other things going on right now that aren't so pleasant, and helped me fall even more in love with our area where we live and Florida in general. I always loved history but hadn't really found a way to learn more about history without watching TV or CZcams. This was kind of my first time since we moved here to get out and be outside in the sunshine learning on site, and it's 1,000 times more fun for me to learn that way than to just read online. Then when I came home and read online to add to what happened on site, it was like an exponential increase of the fun. LOL. I bet that sounds weird AF but you probably get my drift. I am so proud of what I was able to learn and share, and feel even more comfortable now with each location that I see that I'm building on the knowledge we've already started learning together. I've even surprised some locals now by whipping out information they didn't even know. It's kind of going to my head here, can you tell? Just KIDDING but you get my drift I'm sure. I'm really excited for June also, I've already started filming a few videos for June that were inspired by Memorial May. MM really incentivized me to take a second look at our town and its history and try to pull up new things people might want to see from around here!

They are still planning on building one just north of Dayton, but not sure when that’s gonna happen. I really like that you’re enjoying doing these videos so much. Can just tell you’re not doing it just to “do another” video, but something you really do want to do. And even on the heat and humidity, you still do it. I do get your drift, sometimes when your video starts, I pause, start looking up the location, street view, and whatever else pops up, Wiki page of course, and can follow along. Oh trust me Julie, I knew trains were coming. I really like how I’m remembering previous videos you’ve done and how the videos tie together. I know what you’re going to say, because this “story” is the other end of the previous video. But you have to do it this way for the folks who see this video first. Have to tell the whole story. And I still learn more because I’m hearing it differently, about a different location. The trains all tie together, obviously the Great Fire of 1919 is going to come up several times.. That’s why I love history, like a giant puzzle that ties together to form a great picture. 🤓 Felt so sorry for you when you hit your head on the sign. I’m thinking, “Julie smacking your head on the sign isn’t how you learn what the sign said..” 😂 But loved that you did include it at the end. We’re all human and do silly dumb things from time to time. Just wish it didn’t hurt so much right? ☺️

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před 9 dny

      You knew the train was comin', it was rolling round the bend... I'm pretty sure we are done with train videos now! But when I first did the Union Cypress Railway and Sawmill, that was before I thoroughly understood the Florida East Coast Railroad and how important that was to developing Florida as a tourist destination and snowbird/home development capital of the US. (I filmed in a good order, but edited in an all--over-the-place order, and editing is where I was really learning the good stuff, so I was for awhile quite confused myself). I really did have a blast and a half with these videos. One of these days I took a friend out with me to half a dozen markers or so. She'd gotten excited because I told her how much fun I was having! After a few hours in the blazing heat/sun and fire ants, she was like, how in the WORLD is this any fun for you?!?!?!? LOLOLOL

      Uh Oh Quoting Johnny Cash now.... 🤣 The trains have been really interesting, and learning about just how important they were to Florida, over all. Tourists, moving lumber, which we didn't realize was such a big part of history either, just fun to learn this stuff. I'll be thinking about what all we've learned when we get stopped by the train on our next trip down there too. It's funny your friend wondered how you were having fun out there in the heat. LOL I'm that same way, if I'm enjoying it, heat doesn't stop me, it's still fun. LOL

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před 7 dny

      I love Johnny Cash! But don't worry, the train videos have ended now HAHA. I had fun with them, but I think there's a limit to just how much train content I can create. It does get repetitive after awhile and I know it's not THE most interesting thing in the world LOL. I'd still love to do a Flagler video, but that's got to go on the back burner until we can get back up to St. Augustine. I think I mentioned, I was in St. A last fall with my uncle, but I didn't vlog anything to spend more time with him. Maybe I can combine that with a trip through Daytona for chainsaw art one of these days. Yep, my friend (who is a Florida native BTW) really couldn't hang with the heat. I know it's tough but dang. Why live here if you can't handle the kitchen, or whatever it is they say!

      You’ll never find me complaining about the heat in Florida, I means it’s Florida. I’ve never understood people that move to Arizona and complain about the heat. You moved to a desert…🤓. “Can’t stand the heat? Get out of the kitchen.” 👍 You have to know the story on Flagler has to be interesting. Not everyone’s “cup of tea”, but interesting to some of us out there. Would be a cool duo, St. Augustine, and the Chainsaw carving. Don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, but I have a step-sister living in St. A. And cousins living around Cocoa Beach. I wonder if they know much about the history of the area. ☺️

    It is interesting that the markers signify two different times in history, separated by hundreds of years, at more or less the exact same place. It means this place was and still is an important location. And I bet most folks don’t know that history. After listening to you and even skimming the Wiki page on Dr. Barbour, I was trying to figure out how this place tied to him. Born in Mass, grew up in NJ, school and work at Harvard. Where did the park come in? Even mentioned all of the places he visited, explored, and worked, but never mentioned Florida except to say he left FL to go to Cuba multiple times. They had to be snowbirds. 😂 Not gonna lie, I wished my family did that when I was growing up. I never would have wanted to leave and go back north though. 🤓 I agree would be fun to learn about the various different tribes. I’ve seen a list, and the only two I’ve recognized are the Seminoles of course, and now the Ais. The Ais history we’ve learned about is intriguing and you know as well as I do, the other tribes have similar histories that would be interesting to learn about.

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před 9 dny

      I felt bad but there was sooooooo much to say about Dr. Barbour, and I had to cut tons & tons of it out of the Wikipedia story. Usually I have the opposite problem, WAY more footage than I have information to recite. But in this case, combined with the fact we were also talking about Pentoaya, I had to kind of hit the highlights of his extensive career, and I definitely didn't do him full justice. Oh well, I tell myself, most people aren't even reading that sign as they walk past it. I did the best I could haha. Not my fault he accomplishments barely fit in a 6,000,000 word essay!!! I'm not entirely clear if he did his studies right here in this exact park, or if he was just from one of the families with boats who were up & down these little rivers in & out of the Lagoon regularly and he picked up little insects & fossils along the way. This park was a great place to find archaeological remains plus all kinds of neat little river bugs & crustaceans, etc! Oh, I was at a museum the other day, and the audio recordings were pronouncing "Ais" like "ICE." So maybe I have been saying it wrong, although I have been hearing it in other places like ACE also.... hmm....

    • @Mustang-6-The-Force
      @Mustang-6-The-Force Před 9 dny

      ACE or ICE, we'll still know what you're talking about. I haven't seen any ways to pronounce the name in the few things I've read about them, but would be interesting to know which is correct I guess. You could tell from the Wikipedia page there is a whole lot more to his story. Something tells me I bet they have a lot of his history and his work at Harvard. Most of it would be way over my head of course, but still would be and interesting "Life Story" to learn about. All the places he traveled to? I bet his passport had different volumes if he were alive today. And of course, I bet his work is still studied today.

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před 7 dny

      People just tended to be more incredible back then, if you ask me. With the limitations in options to travel, the length of time it would take to cross the ocean or travel from up north to southern Florida, not to mention all the challenges in between, it always amazes me when someone from back then zipped all over the place and accomplished so much. WAY more impressive than people doing the same amount of work with all of today's modern conveniences!

    • @Mustang-6-The-Force
      @Mustang-6-The-Force Před 7 dny

      You’re right. I remember first learning about Civil War battles, and hearing about how troops marched from one location to another. Amazed by how far that was for them back then, and how long it takes us to drive it. Or even more recent history, back before Interstates. Driving from up north to down south. Each and every small town…. So when you hear about people like him, how did he do it? People in today’s world wouldn’t be able to handle what he did. It’s all rush rush rush now. 😐

    A ridiculous bowler hat. LOL For some reason I'm thinking that was a style in England back during that time, and he was English, maybe he just liked that style. Funny they called it ridiculous. 🤭 Its a little bit more history of the founding of Melbourne we learned earlier in the month. Too bad the old post office no longer exists, much like a lot of old Melbourne due to the fire of 1919. 😢 (I did remember that before you mentioned it. I'm proud of myself!) That tree is really something, I wonder how old it is? Can understand why the Post Office history is near and dear to your heart, Grandfathers! It's always great to talk about our Grandfathers! 🙂

      Hey Mustang!! Ridiculous bowler hat cracked me up too. I feel like I can see this guy already even though I don't even have a picture of him LOL. I hope he had a cane and a pocket watch to complete the look! Unfortunately, so much of original Melbourne doesn't exist anymore. One of the very few markers that I did not cover this month is for the Carlton Hotel downtown. I've seen 100+ year old photographs of this hotel, and it was ABSOLUTELY SPLENDID! Unfortunately, it burned completely down twice. This area was truly plagued in its earliest days. I keep meaning to look up that fire and see if they ever found a cause. Wouldn't it be cool if that tree was original to the post office site? I kind of doubt it but who knows! We have plenty of far older trees in Florida!

    • @Mustang-6-The-Force
      @Mustang-6-The-Force Před 10 dny

      LOL you’re right, the cane, pocket watch with chain, and a black suit. And he was a big guy. I bet that was quite the “look”. 😂 And they thought the bowler hat was ridiculous. 🤣 Probably is a story about that fire, it obviously is an important part of Melbournes history. All I’ve been able to find out was a Tennant in a boarding house tossed a kerosine lantern out the window, that someone supposedly shot holes in it, onto the wooden boardwalk. 40 mph winds pushed the fire into downtown. I’m sure there’s a lot more info out there. 🤷🏼‍♂️ The shape of that tree made me think it had been around for a long time. Not huge but the shape and the way it’s grown does make you wonder why it looks that way. I agree, would be cool to know it was there when the post office was there. 👍

      HAHAHAHA YES IT IS!!!!! I used to follow several pages on my Instagram dedicated to Florida memes, headlines, etc. I kind of miss the humor now that I don't use social media anymore. There's a few I would recommend if you're looking for funny Florida jokes. brightlinecrashtracker, floridaman, and yourfloridaguy. they are all HILARIOUS accounts! Also have you done that thing where you google your birthdate and the year you were born plus "FLORIDA" to see what mugshot made the headlines the day you were born? HYSTERICAL!

Although I usually read them out to him when we're driving places to keep up so he knows all of our CZcams friends :). He definitely describes Playalinda better than I do. Pretty cool there were two different markers right next to each other and they really didn't tie together? Dr. Barbour sounds like he was the top expert in lots of various naturalist species. I found a article that said he grew up in New Jersey and in Melbourne, wonder if maybe the family were "Snowbirds"? 🤔 I still think it's strange we've never heard about Ais Indians before considering the time they lived and existed in Florida, and how "young" Florida is to "our civilization." So they spent summers near or around Ballard Park and winters across the river in Gleason Park. They are pretty close together. Interesting. Pretty cool how close the park is to your home too. 🙂 Another Great Video Julie!!

      Hi Mustang! I was planning to make 2 videos at this location, but dang, when you put the markers practically on top of each other, that would have been totally cheating to use the same footage twice! Nobody would want to watch that LOL. But I do think it's an extra layer of ultra cool when you have 2 significantly awesome things to commemorate from such different periods of history, and can put the markers right on top of each other. Kind of staggering to think of the layers of time like that. I do think his family was snowbirds, before that term was really used for people who spend winters in Florida, from what I read! There were dozens of native tribes all over Florida, but the Ais were just the ones that happened to be covering the eastern part of Brevard County, which is why I run into them so often. I know the Calusa were the ones that gave old Ponce de Leon quite a hard time and ultimately his fatal wound. I'd love to have the time to learn more about all the different native tribes that existed here, long before the Seminoles, which are so famous today!

    This marker ties into one of the other days video, I'm getting old, can't remember that whole video. I remember the fire that destroyed most of Melbourne and being with out power when the saw mill burnt, same mill correct? Trying to see maybe where the railroad ran on Google maps, can see the park, 192, and the St. Johns River. The park is a few blocks south of 192. Pretty cool seeing another place close to where we visited, the mall is just north of where you were for this video. 😉 Hard to believe the railroad only existed for 20 years. There is our Bluegrass in the back ground. ☺ Loved the nice little stroll through the park, shame we didn't see any alligators right? 🙃 Hope your head feels better, sorry I didn't want to laugh but I did. Do feel bad about about laughing though. 🤭 Julie Bloopers, another idea. 🥰 Great one Julie!

      Hi Mustang!! I told you there was plenty more "train history" coming up LOL. This is a marker for the railway that connected the station from the other day to a sawmill a few more miles west in Deerpark. I've never been to Deerpark yet, my app tells me there's not a historical marker there, so I'm not sure if I'd be on a wild goose chase to even find the site of the original sawmill, and that's assuming it's not on private property anyway. I'd also like to see what traces are left of the original track that crossed the St. Johns River. That's an expedition for a winter day when it's not so hot & muggy. You're going to know more about Melbourne than most people who live here at this rate! My head hurt for DAYS! But I couldn't help but laugh though. Serves me right for taking myself so seriously !!!!! :). LOL

    Myrtle Cottage sounds like it was a important building to the area. It's so sad The Grand Old Building burnt down. So the Chapel was across the street from the Myrtle Cottage, that's pretty neat. This really is Historic or Old Melbourne for sure! Love that huge porch on the Ryckman House! It almost looks as big as the floorplan of the house. I bet a lot of people have sat on that porch over the decades. Beautiful! Hmmm was the dolphin "statue" an actual statue or was it carved out of a tree trunk I wonder? That's pretty cool looking either way. You're right, the architectural style of the Villa Marine is beautiful, the staircase facing the water is HUGE and that upper deck really sets the whole building off. I bet this was a popular "resort" in it's day. Would love to see more buildings use that upper deck idea. That little section of railroad had me confused until you explained it. Looking it up on Google maps, can see Ocean Avenue goes straight to the ocean on the other side, and then there is another section of the track just before you get to the Atlantic. That's a really neat piece of history, wonder how many people know about it? Imagine a train riding on the Pier. Dangerous sitting on on the track ya know. 😅 Another windy day I see. LOL 🤣 Pretty cool video, lots to see and now we know even more about Historic Melbourne! thanks Julie!

      Hi Mustang! This video was so much fun to make. I'd never really spent any time in Melbourne Beach (why bother, when we live right across the street from an identical beach..), so this was all new turf for me plus new names and history that hadn't really even been mentioned over on the mainland markers. I would LOVE to take a tour of the Ryckman House! They do offer them weekly I think on Saturdays, and it's been on my to-do list to get back over there and take a tour. I didn't have the time to do it the day I was there sadly. After that awesome tour of Lawndale House, I've been wanting to tour as many old houses as I can! Unfortunately, they are usually only one day a week, Saturdays, and all at the same time. I should have investigated the dolphin statue further. I just assumed it was a carving and didn't think to question it. It was so funky & neat though. I'm starting to like Melbourne Beach better than where we live, not so much funky neatness here north by a few miles LOL. I love how you're looking these things up on Aerial maps! I better mind my P's and Q's to make sure I get all the information correct, because you will for sure know if I get it wrong! Usually when you tell me something you looked up, I feel like why in the world did I never think to look that up! I probably should have included aerial footage from Google maps to show how slender the barrier island gets down there near Melbourne Beach and what a freaking short railroad that even was. When I first heard they built a railroad to go to the ocean, I was like, freaking why!? The beach is like 1,000 feet away, what's the point LOL. I did not know there was a 2nd piece of track on the Atlantic side, that is NEAT! It doesn't have a historical marker, or at least it's not listed on the historical marker database I've been following. I have been wondering though if the HMDB is truly a complete list. I can think of things that I'm shocked do not have markers, and then other markers are kind of a JOKE! Just wait til June, I've got a couple "duds" up my sleeve. I'm so glad you're enjoying these videos! They were fun as hell to make. I'm super bummed that I ran out of markers within a reasonable driving distance radius. I would have loved to keep going with this series for forever!

    Well I will admit to pausing and looking up your location on Google maps. I probably could plot your course from Indian Harbour Beach to where you end up. By the time all 31 videos are up, will make more sense too. 🤓 I think it’s pretty cool how you say where you’re at then when the voice over starts you can tell you studied and learned more than what the markers show. Especially this one! Fascinating story, you almost want to learn more about it. At least I did. Criminal being chased by a crooked Sherrif. Just screams “make a movie about this”. I agree, the story you told was so much better than the marker, didn’t see it as well as some of the others, but the story more than made up for it. Still wonder why it’s not a part of history we’ve all heard about. Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, Al Capone, Jessie James and the James Gang…. The Ashley Gang sounds like they deserved to be known as well. Oh no!! Please don’t think I’m getting tired of your videos, or Michael’s or the two of you. I think of you three, can’t forget Abs, as “Our Friends in Florida”. I DO look forward to seeing the next one. ALWAYS!! Just so darn busy, and don’t want to watch, then run off and start on the next project at home. 🤓. So I wait until I have to time to sit down and really take in the videos. Like next weekend, 4 days of dog shows. Gonna be busy and trying to keep up with Memorial May! Trust me, I’m enjoying it!! 🥰 I know the feeling of how you feel, I look forward to our chats, your comments. Couldn’t wait to read what you thought of the Eclipse video. I’m thinking if you two while filming and editing. “What would Julie do here?” “What music will they like?” “I know Michael will recognize this, will Julie roll her eyes when he tells her it’s a Star Wars theme?” LOL 😂 Never in a million years thought we’d or I would “connect” with someone out “there” like we have. I just think it’s so fun watching and learning. I know you two have taught me a lot more than I’ve taught or shown you, but even just our chats are fun. So happy you look forward to it too! Just so you know, we did talk more about the dog show in December yesterday. And we really do hope we’re going to be able to do it. Talked more about how and what we need to do, to make it happen. So still hoping we can do it! And if we do, sure hope you two can make it over and see it in person!! Maybe even get an inside view of what all goes on behind the scenes!

      Hi Mustang! Too funny that you are plotting my routes! You are so into this series, it's cracking me up. The only other person who had as much fun as you do with this series was ME, MAKING it! :). LOL Yep like I said, sometimes it backfired on me shooting intros & outros before I had spent the time to learn the information. In all honesty, I can read the whole marker and it goes in one head and out the other. I have to really focus, read a few articles, copy and paste and then read aloud or retype in my own words, and record it all, before anything really sinks in. But I thought it would be kind of boring if I waited to do all the "-tros" back at home in regular clothes after I had learned whatever there was to say. Just seemed more appropriate to do the "tros" on location. This was an example of me totally not knowing how cool this boring place really was. It ended up being one of my favorite markers of the whole month! I agree this story is so outlandish, it just screams cops & robbers, make a movie about this! I think they did make a movie and it got terrible reviews, right? I am so surprised that the Ashley Gang is so buried in time. We know all the other major 19th/20th century criminals as household names, how did their story get so lost? And why are they barely a sentence on this marker? Who cares about a hotel that used to sit on a pile of shells that a B-roll President might have stayed in on a hunting trip one time maybe? Tell me more about these swamp hopping thugs! Sounds like they were having a grand old time up until they all got shot anyway. Are you guys getting excited for the dog shows this weekend???? I have all of my fingers and toes crossed. Maybe I'll try to teach Abs how to cross her little paws for good luck for you too! I have missed our chats! We have been really busy the last few days, life is starting to accelerate at a crazy rate and usually CZcams is the first ball I drop. It's such a treat to come back and see so many comments from you though. I'll get all caught up on Friday for sure. Tomorrow is PLAYALINDA DAYYYY!

      Well like I’ve been saying all along, it is interesting to me. Now if I lived around there, would I go looking for this info you’ve been telling us about? Before, no but maybe I would now because of the way you’re doing it. It’s so cool! It’s not so much plotting your routes as much as figuring out where you are each day. Can tell by your outfit if you’re going to be close to another site, another video, so “know” the general area. Geeze, now I sound like a stalker don’t I? 🤣 Don’t mean to be, it’s just you do seem to be having fun making the videos, and I like and usually love what you’re showing. Can’t help to notice where you are and what you’re wearing. (There’s those creepy stalker vibes again. 🤓😂 I do like the way you shot the “tros”. It gives off the feeling that you’re learning right along with us, even if you really don’t know a whole lot about it until you do your research later on. The Ashley Gang is a perfect example of that. Yep they did make a movie, terrible reviews and even the real people not just movie critics, who did see it rated it low. I’m guessing the producers were trying to jump on the “gangster” bandwagon that was going on at the time. The Godfather, a lot of people say one of the greatest movies of all time, came out a year or two before this movie, they tried to make their version… failed I guess. Yeah we are. Really excited to get Koozie back in the ring. He hasn’t shown in awhile, just hoping the judges aren’t the type that ALWAYS pick hairless over Powder Puffs. He just so handsome when he’s all groomed and ready to go. Other than Freddi of course, not sure which other dogs are going. Going to be a long fun weekend though. 😊 So happy you get to go to Playalinda today!!! Too bad we can’t talk about those trips as they are going on. Love hearing and reading about the days spent there. Lots of great memories have happened in that sand. Hope you both have a really fun visit!!!!! 😁🏖️

      Good morning Mustang!!! I don't know if you're interested in looking up some history for your channel, but I have this app on my phone called "Explore Here" that I've been using. It uses GPS to figure out where you are, and then depending on how far in or out you zoom the radius, it will show you all of the historical markers & landmarks around you. I used it for Memorial May videos and basically went to almost every single marker in about a 30-40 minute drive from our house (skipping a few that I thought were uninteresting). Even if you don't care to film the markers, it's at least interesting and might open your eyes to things you didn't even know where there. It has pictures of the site and markers too, in case you want to see if it's worth traveling to the spot or not. I have loved using that app! I suspected my outfits would eventually give away my routes, if only because they were all so different. It started out because the first 2 days I went out to film, I planned on visiting military memorial type sites (my original plan was to do a whole month of Memorial Day type videos, before I realized how much more history there was to uncover, so I limited it to just the last week of the month). I just felt the need to try to dress a little more respectfully considering the memorials were for fallen soldiers. After I filmed those videos, I figured I should just continue to dress up for the whole series to keep in theme, except for those days we had to get out and take quite a hike in the heat! I can't blame you for plotting my routes because it's pretty obvious based on the different outfits what I wore and what direction I went that day LOL. If I really wanted to hide my itinerary, I would have worn the same outfit for all 31 videos or 31 different outfits LOL. I hope Koozie & Freddi are showing their bestests today! GOOD LUCK to everybody!!!!! Are you going along also or is Stacey just going with her mother in law? Are any of the border collies turning up this time? I hope all goes well and can't wait to hear how they did!!!!!

    • @Mustang-6-The-Force

      I’ll have to check out that app. It sounds like one I would use from time to time. Especially when I’m somewhere new or traveling. LOL 31 different outfits? I can see Stacey doing something like that. Just like at dog shows, changing outfits between shows. “Can’t wear the same out fit you know”. 🤭 Yes I’m at the shows also. The border collies are Frankie and Todd. Koozie didn’t show yesterday, just entered Saturday and Sunday. (Those are usually the busy days, and he just needs “Major” wins, need a certain number of entries for a “major”.) Freddi showed first today, got her point again. She’s been showing against her Breeders dogs, and doing really well. She’s came in 2nd to the number 1 American Hairless Terrier in the US yesterday, and beat him today. She also won Best of Breed Owner Handled both days. Kathy, her breeder, is so happy with Freddi and the way Stac is showing her, she’s going to give us another American Hairless Terrier to start showing. He’s just 7 weeks old. And they’ve named him, you’re gonna laugh, “Sticky”. 🤣 His registered name will be “Edelweiss I’m Hot, Sticky, Sweet”. We think…, AKC has to approve of the name. You both love 80’s music, so I’m sure you know where the name comes from right?😉 Kathy is all for us showing Freddi and now Sticky in Orlando. We found out today, that the American Hairless terrier Nationals are in Orlando also this year, a few days before Royal Canin and said we should show them in that show too. Our schedule may be longer than we originally planned. 🙂 Koozie showed awesome! But not a friendly judge to Powder Puffs. He picked the Hairless Crested’s. Bummer. Kathy loved how he showed and said he should have placed better. A lot of people didn’t like his choice of winner. (I thought he was oversized, but that’s me). The BC’s didn’t get any love today either. 😥 But the breeder who has the number one Border Collie of all time is there. So the competition is tough. The girls did look good though. Two more days to go!

      Good morning Mustang!!! Coffee & back from our walk with Abra bright & early this morning. Look at Freddi, racking up her points!!!! That's fantastic that she gives even her breeders' dogs a run for their money!! I am so proud of her!!!! I'm telling you, these dogs are CZcams star quality here. You guys have such a variety of breeds & temperaments, and they could have their own little show! Their own little show about SHOWING in dog shows HAHA! This is going to turn into a tongue twister... I was walking Abra when I read your comment about "Sticky" and the Def Leppard song and I cracked up laughing out loud. Abra snapped up to look at me like I was crazy since there was nobody else out there with us. I happen to love Def Leppard btw. I was really born in the wrong era because all my favorite music is around 2 decades older than I was at the time... what I mean is, it my 20th birthday was in fact the day I was born, I think that would perfectly align with having grown up with all the best music!! I think the stars are aligned for you guys to come to Orlando and show your dogs!!! This is fantastic! I hate it for Koozie and the border collies. They all deserved better. They are some good looking, well behaved, champion quality show dogs and should just take home all the prizes, if it were up to me. You really have an all star rock star cast for quite the CZcams show here HAHA

(It's funny, I look at your outfit when the video starts, and try to guess what day you "filmed something else" that day, LOL). The Ashley Gang. Once again, never heard of them but what a story!! Just like you have to look them up and yeah that is some story. I'll have to look for the book, "Red Grass River: A Legend" and probably harder to find, the movie they made about the Ashley Gang. Little Laura and Big John. Made in 1973 Eek. Just from what you've told us, imagine what kind of movie could be made about them. Gangster movies used to be the rage. Good morning, Mustang! We are getting ready to go out to brunch over here for a video coming out in June haha. I figured eventually you would catch on to the outfits and figure out my filming days. Bonus points if you can plot my route based on markers and outfits LOL. I think I went out a total of 6 days in different directions to film and filmed as many markers as possible, then brought all the footage home and then did the research and script. That's why in some of my intros/outros, I don't know a whole lot about what I'm introducing. I just read the marker, and after you read dozens & dozens of them, they all start to run together! I have found via CZcams, I learn the best by showing up to a location and just taking it all in, experiencing the feeling of being in a place really cool. But I have to go home and read up and copy/paste and script and VoiceOver and record and playback before the information really gets engrained in my brain forever LOL. Some of my intros were cringey after I learned the more extensive history of the place but oh well. What can you do! I didn't know about the book about the Ashley Gang, but I had heard of the movie doing my research for this video. It got poo-pooed everywhere that I heard about it, but I'd still be willing to give it a watch if I had the time. I never ever heard of them before the making of this video, and wow what a story! Not going to lie, this was probably the most boring marker on the most boring stretch of land that I filmed all month, but ended up being one of THE MOST fun stories to script, record, and set music to. Probably in my top 3 favorite markers of the whole month of May. I really really enjoyed this one. I was worried when it took you a couple days to watch this video, I thought OH NO, Mustang got sick of my series and quit watching LOL. I wouldn't blame you, I know they are no masterpieces! But I hope my skills are improving. My love of creating videos is increasing especially with this opportunity to show people this amazing place where we live and the awesome history I'm learning about it every day. I know I don't say it often enough, but I truly appreciate your support on every video and your kind words. You motivate me to keep at it and make it feel like I've done a worthy job. I always look forward to my morning coffee chats & catch ups with Mustang! :)

    I did wonder if you'd go visit CB after we talked about I Dream of Jeannie. 😊 The condo we stayed at was just south of the park and I Dream of Jeannie Lane. Growing up, I loved watching Jeannie, the Astronauts and the space theme of course, but I had a crush on Jeannie. The outfit she wore to a little boy was sexy. I remember the first time we were allowed to see her belly button. OH MY! She had to keep her belly button covered most of the series, could show her stomach, but they had to cover the belly button. Isn't that weird? Barbara Eden was a pretty lady then and still is today. (She's in her 90's now.) The biggest difference between Jeannie and Betwitched, was Jeannie was a 2000 year old Jeannie, she didn't have a name, so they called her Jeannie, who could technically grant wishes, but they just had her doing magic. Captain Nelson, later Major Nelson, found her bottle on a beach after his spaceship landed off course. He opened the bottle, now he had a Jeannie. LOL Betwitched, Samantha was a witch married to a human, who could do magic too. I'm no expert, but if I had to guess, that looked more like a US Navy ship than a cruise ship, or maybe a cargo or tanker ship? We don't see many ships on the northern side of Canaveral. But I don't know much about cruise ships either LOL Yeah you weren't dressed for the beach, oops. The dark color blouse I bet was hot out there on the sand. Sorry you got so hot. The things you do for me Julie!! 🥰 Thank You AGAIN! and yes I did enjoy it. Fun to see the area again. I guess it was about 5 years ago now that we stay in Cocoa Beach. Hope you do get to see the show sometime. Silly comedy from the 60's. LOL Thank You Julie!!

      Hey Mustang! Haha of course I did, I knew when I first got the idea to do historical markers that I had to go see the I Dream of Jeannie ones you had told me about. I hope I hit them all. I have an app on my phone called Explore Here that tells me where markers are, but it's not always totally up to date. This was one of the videos I did specifically with you in mind LOL. I knew you said you liked the show so much, and I still haven't had a chance to watch it. Hopefully I can tune in one day soon. Did I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched run concurrently?

    • @Mustang-6-The-Force
      @Mustang-6-The-Force Před 13 dny

      I think they were on at the same time, but Bewitched ran a year or two longer. I saw Betwitched off and on, didn’t like it as well. Then at some point, the guy who played the husband, Darrin, changed. A different actor. They were very similar because they were both trying to hide the ladies special powers. I just liked Jeannie better. She was prettier. lol. Hey I was a little guy, liked pretty ladies. 🤓 As soon as you said you were in Cocoa Beach, I thought of I dream of Jeannie because we talked about it for a few days. And you did teach me, they didn’t use any of the NASA buildings in Canaveral. If I remember correctly, early in the show, they showed the outside of the house, the neighborhood they lived in. I always wondered if they filmed that in Cocoa Beach? Now I know they didn’t. Thanks to you. And I don’t have to go looking for the neighborhood. lol Feel so special that you did some of your videos for me. Really appreciate it Julie! ☺️

      I was a smidge bummed that literally nothing of the show was filmed in Coco Beach. Not gonna lie that fact did dampen my enthusiasm to watch the show somewhat. The whole "let's go find that house/building/etc" you know. But it is really cool how cast & crew paid honor to CB by visiting a few times and visiting NASA as well. I looked up Jeannie on TV this morning, I'd forgotten the few seasons or so were in black in white. It's showing on Tubi, BTW. It also had a movie they made, it said 15 years later, Jeannie and Tony are married and have a kid, TJ or Tony Junior. Larry Hagman didn't return as Tony though, it was Wayne Rodgers, the guy that played Trapper John on MASH. That was so weird to see. (Just watched a few minutes of it.) Even though it wasn't filmed in Florida, to me back then, it just made me want to go back and visit there, always loved Florida when we did go down there, and "Seeing It" on TV made me want to go even more. Just weird now knowing it wasn't in Florida, ever. 😒

    • @michaelandjulie
      @michaelandjulie Před 9 dny

      Yeah the glass kind of shattered when we realized not ANY of the show was filmed in Florida. Seems like they could have at least gotten some B-roll footage here, our coastline is completely different from California, etc. But I'm still glad they put Cocoa Beach on the map! Sadly I can't watch anything in black & white, it gives me a terrible migraine from the eyestrain. I may have to pick up whenever they shelled out the big bucks for color TV hahahaha. I think Cocoa Beach needs a Jeannie statue!
