One of the funniest sequences in possibly the best TV show. ever. Often overlooked is the great, but understated, performance by the waiter. I can't cook swordfish without recalling this scene. (I hope mine exceeds decent.)
This and the scene when he realises he’s made a “ghastly ghastly mistake” getting with Julia are absolutely hilarious. Top tier acting, so funny.

The quality of writing went down significantly towards the end of the show. Even Niles suddenly became boring and bland once he hooked up with Daphne.
Definitely true, although there are still some gems among later episodes.

She said that her husband is having an affair with a not quite human woman, is this show referring to a black woman? As not quite human?
Throughout the course of the show, Niles' wife is never seen but she is often characterized as a snooty, unnaturally thin, pale skinned woman. It's an ongoing joke throughout the better half of the series.
Interesting how that led you to assume a black woman though.
Funny about Frasier not speaking German because in another episode (maybe another season) he does speak German. This is not the only series where the writers change things about the characters, and it is one of my pet peeves.
Same here, especially out of the downright convenience of making the episode work. Like, why couldn't they just switch up the characters, or have them speak a language even Frasier finds bewildering -- especially since he's so smart, anyway. For me, this episode kind of dumbs down Frasier to the point of "Wow this would have been solved much, MUCH faster if Frasier's character was consistent." It's a pain in the ass

I'd have felt the same way Frasier did. 4000 miles to an expensive resort, at my expense for multiple people. Everyone else who wants seafood - in the country's best seafood restaurant - gets what they want, but my GF and I can't have any because the restaurant GM did not order enough. I'd have handled it differently - I'd skip dinner & drink water and let everyone else enjoy their dinner. But I would never pay for an expensive meal that is my LAST choice on a menu. Fuck them.
