As part of the Auckland Heritage Festival in 2019 the townhall Orgelbau Klais Pipe Organ was opened for public viewing. After inspecting the underground working of the organ we were treated to hearing the organ played by Paul Chan. Originally installed in 1910 the organ was completely renovated in 2010 to a very high standard.

Britain from 1800 to 1900. 20,000 Waterwheels decreased in number. Windmills decreased in number. Englishman Thomas Newcomen's 1,500 Atmospheric Pumps disappeared. Scotsman James Watt's 500 Steam Engines and their descendants increased in number to 10,000,000 !!! For every SINGLE Waterwheel in 1800 there were now an additional 500 Steam Engines in 1900 !!! The available Power for the whole country increased by 500 times !!! In one human lifetime. This WAS the Industrial Revolution. It was a Power Revolution. And all it needed was one single Invention, James Watt's Invention of the world's first PRACTICAL Steam Powered Engine! Now you can have Pumps, and a million more Factories for a start, then Steamships Locomotives and whatever else you needed it for.

The Newcomen Steam Engine didn't exist. It's an Atmospheric Pump, it supplied Atmospheric Power, a max.of 10 psi. A Steam Engine's different, it supplies Steam Power. That's why It's Called a Steam Engine. James Watt dumped Newcomen's Atmospheric Power for Watt's Steam Power. To achieve that he had to invent a new engine, the world's first PRACTICAL High Pressure Steam Engine. For the first time in human history we could replace the 2000 years old Water-wheel with something more powerful, and more importantly more numerous, James Watt's High Pressure Steam Engine. Then? An Industrial Revolution! Newcomen's Atmospheric Pump was a 70 years long wrong turn.
Mostly wrong. Watt did not like high pressure steam, his idea was still to use atmospheric pressure but with a separate condenser. This avoided heating and cooling the cylinder on every stroke which wasted a lot of energy. Trevithick was the originator of high pressure steam engines. Also atmospheric engines still use the properties of steam to generate power. The atmosphere is only used as a kind of spring. When the piston goes out of the cylinder, it is because the cylinder is filling with steam at about the same pressure and the weight of the pump rod pulls it out. When the steam is condensed, the pressure drops and the atmospheric pressure pushes the piston back in. If steam was not being generated, the piston would never move. The Newcomen engine was practical, about 1500 of them were built and used. The Watt engine was better, and later engines like triple expansion engines and steam turbines were better again. But Newcomen was the one that started the industrial revolution
Steam drives Watt's piston, in a closed cylinder, so it's Steam powered. Natural Air pressure drives a Newcomen piston in an ' open to the Atmosphere ' cylinder. So it's an Atmospheric Pump. Atmospheric Pressure opposes a Steam Engine. That's why Watt used an optional separate condenser. It does two jobs, it recirculates hot water and at the same time eliminates Atmospheric pressure with the vacuum it creates on condensing. It makes Watt's engines more efficient by cutting out 14.7psi of opposition. Newcomen's pump couldn't use a separate condenser, it basically IS a condenser. Watt's the big difference between high and low pressure, they're all Steam Engines. Early ones are bound to have lower pressure, they were the first ever Steam POWERED Engines.
@@walterbennie816 The Watt engine is basically a Newcomen engine with a separate condenser added. The separate condenser is not optional for a Watt engine, if it does not have one it is not a Watt engine.The working fluid in both cases is steam. The Newcomen engine does not derive power from atmospheric pressure, it derives its power by heating water to turn it into steam. So it has a fire and a boiler to generate steam. Without those it will do nothing. The atmosphere does not contribute any energy to the working cycle, if anything it just acts like a spring. The fact that in both cases the steam is used at or near atmospheric pressure makes no difference to the fact that these are both steam engines, using the properties of water/steam to enable them to turn heat into useful work.
@@MoraneAINewcomen's Atmospheric Pump is made to supply Atmospheric Power. A max of 10psi, the weight of the air above the piston. For that reason the cylinder is open at the top. And it couldn't replace the Waterwheel. Watt's Engine is made to supply Steam Power, so it's got virtually no upper limit and it could and did replace and exceed the Waterwheel ( hence the Industrial Revolution ). Watt's cylinder is enclosed at the top so Steam is kept in to drive the piston. Watt himself said, if there's not enough cold water around to keep the condenser cold, then don't use one, just release the used Steam to the Atmosphere. Creating an artificial split between high and low pressure Steam is just a ruse to cut James Watt out of the picture.
And to think, all modern engines have the Newcomen Steam Engine as their common ancestor...

Il modello Rc è molto bello, bravo. La navigazione è eseguita molto bene, grazie alla corretta velocità e al fumo che esce dai fumaioli, sembra molto realistica. The RC model is very nice, well done. The navigation is done very well, thanks to the correct speed and the smoke coming out of the smokestacks, it seems very realistic. Siccome sto realizzando un modello RC navigante a vela e ad elica con fumaioli (nella seconda parte di questo video: czcams.com/video/NTsYPwn58U4/video.html, si vedono meglio i dettagli) vorrei chiederti come hai fatto per creare il fumo. Secondo te potrei farlo anche sul mio modello? Since I'm building a sailing and propeller RC model with smoke stacks, (in the second part of this video: czcams.com/video/NTsYPwn58U4/video.html, you can see the details better), I'd like to ask you how you went about creating the smoke. Do you think I could do it on my model too?
Until this i did not know NZ had Garrett locomotives, they were very powerful and would break the draw gear on the wagons!! I hope this engine is still around, it would be the last of it,s kind, i think there a Garrett brought in from South Africa.
There's none so blind as those who don't want to see! The Newcomen Steam Engine didn't exist, it was an Atmospheric pump! It supplied Atmospheric Power, a whole 10psi max! , it couldn't be improved, even by Watt, at 100% efficiency, you'd only get an extra 4.7psi.max. Newcomen dumped Steam Power for Atmospheric Power. It was a 70 years long dead-end. It died, as did the Water-wheel, when James Watt dumped Newcomen's Atmospheric Power for Steam Power. To achieve that he had to invent a new engine, the world's first practical Steam Engine. If you want to see the first steam engine, look at James Watt's engine!

We lived in Grove Rd and the whole park was our play ground. We had great out door exciting adventures eeling , feeding the ducks, kite flying, climbing the trees, the blossom parade and highland games, swimming in the toddler pool during summer, paddle boats, being chased by wild bees and of course hanging out at the skating rink. There was always something to do. Ahhh those were the days. Late 1950s and into the 60s.🙋😄 Happy Happy DayZ. 😎💕🦆

Amazing movie/story, you don’t have be a motorcycle person to appreciate his will and determination. I just watch the movie again last night.
very beautiful landscape but also the last opportunity for new locomotives on the south island. the way the driver's workplace looks, this locomotive belongs more in a museum than on the railways. i keep my fingers crossed that everything will work out with the agreed delivery date and the long transport by sea for the new 57 locomotives.
