    Hi Andy greetings from the land down under, I was looking for a new city builder game and discovered your channel I currently play WRSR (Workers and Resources Soviet Republic) over 3,000 hrs. I like your style of gameplay and commentary, sadly Ailburg has succumbed to its ailments but looking forward to the preparation and baking of the Mozzarella Bagel. That's impressive, I don't think I've got anything close in any game currently... Sounds like a recommendation to definitely try one day. Yes, Ailburg's progress transpired to be overly anticlimactic; and currently Parmigiano Bagel is developing so much more pleasantly! I would love to meet you during a live stream, let's see if we can make it come true! Kind regards to you too. 🌿✨

I am looking forward to conversing with you in the future there is much to learn about different parts of the world. '...as often as you prepare..' Why do I hear boss music? In modern sport, in top teams, like Real Madrid - the best team in the world, currently - a coach, or, I'd rather say, a manager, is merely a boss. A manager, drinking coffee, smoking a sigar. Observing, like a good father, but almost never interrupting. Such observation is hugely underrated, as we are used to mother's role model or school teacher - again, mostly female - who is constantly feedbacking, interfering, assesing, and just feeding you with all that you need - and, as well, not need. It's very good, probably, for upbringing, fostering, scaffolding. When we talk about big results, real improvements and achievements(teenage/adult development) - they must be done(IMHO) by yourself, only. University teachers, by the way, being mostly female too, have different model of behaviour, closer to the one, described above. Coach must be nearby, all the time - drinking, smoking, napping - to intervene at the most significant moment. The hardest one. With one-two words or phrases. 'Hey, champ... You've done it before', 'Focus!' and so on, and so forth. And that's how students get best results.(IMHO) At least, that's how I got 'A' for my diploma defence. Just one hour before, I finished business course with my upper-intermediate student. 98 lessons, 96% on the final test. From his positive feedback, I want to highlight one thing - 'the atmosphere was amazing, fantastic' That's why people keep 'wasting' piles of their hard-toiled gold on teachers/coaches. When you work alone, you can cheat. You can drop. You can ease the difficulty. You can just miss the flow in the middle of the process. With 'right' atmosphere a student gets boosted, amplified, enhanced. And it relies on a teacher/coach. But it was lyrics. The main point from the feedback of the same student: If we were going on with lessons, I'd like to have one lesson with you(we used to have 3 per week) and a lesson with another teacher, as I've adapted to your teaching manner and feel it as easy/not challenging. It reminded me about your point, made about 4 years ago, that a student should have two different teachers, so they can switch from one to another and keep their flow in development. That's why in modern sport there's never a coach - there's a huge training team, where each and every is an expert and a specialist in their domain. The same, I believe, must be in education, To sum up all said above, I want to rephrase the question: How many english teachers to meet? Looking forward to my personal development in any sphere, I suppose that the right answer is more than one. But, as a mere mortal, I can, highly likely, be mistaken.

      @@Andy_Lighthouse Thanks for being a great instigator on this amazing platform! My essay wasn't really in-depth, more lyrical and a bit philosophical, as it's usual for Friday's evening, Now, being more pragmatic and reasoned, I would like to conclude those scattered thoughts with the next point: Quality over quantity. You might see your teacher once a week and get a huge profit and boost in your development. Provided that you have well-qualified studying relationship. I reckon that the level of such quality is up to a teacher, firstly, as we are exeperienced with the establishment of rapport, work ethics and right criteria. A moment when we decide that we are the main pillar of educational point is a start of our personal, professional downfall. At that moment we decide that we, and only we, know best what is the best. Never knows best, as we remember. Asking questions is the best possible activity at the lesson, straight after discussing them, as we raise and bring to a discussion things and facts which are particularly interesting and/or useful for students. There is no best way to tribute benefit and amplify your teaching skill. This wisdom, as yours, came from personal mistakes and false ideas. Never betray your student.

I found this on Reddit and loved it so much: "I’d like to think it’s up to interpretation, that way the anime fits for everyone. In my opinion, it means exactly that. That never knows what’s best. We sometimes say “I’ll never do this. Or I’ll never try that. I’ll never be able to accomplish this or never be able to _____.” You never truly know unless you try. Until then, “never” will always know and you’ll be left wondering the “what if’s” of your life."

    The homework syndrom is a consequence of our educational system which turned, obsolete several years ago, if not a decade. But you can't say people 'go-figure out yourself', as they don't know what 'figure out' means... Their lifes, mostly, are framed by their bosses, parents, governments, and proactive partners and friends. But you don't have to give exact homework - you can just guide them to a specific direction or sources, or try to develop their ability of self-learning. It's quite feasable and has this pleasant aroma of a mutually-beneficial transaction. Though, I feel fondness, every time, when my students ask me about specific tasks or how to develop such-and-such skill. Rare ability to know what you can and what you need. Practical point: Most times, homework is designed by their timetable and lifestyle. If you have zero time for your personal life, it's highly likely that you wouldn't have time for passive voice

    • @Andy_Lighthouse
      @Andy_Lighthouse Před rokem

      Well, I can't help but agree with the wonderful points you're making! My idea is exactly to teach people how to "figure out", although asking the coach to help with the specific area is precisely what we can call the true educational process, when a person is sensitively aware of his/her most relevant needs! And I'm fascinated with the final paragraph of yours!! 👏 Gonna make it one of my favourite quotations now. 🤗

    In 2023, you've told me that I can't be black and religous? Excuse me... Jokes aside, really nothing to add here. It's just a basic life problem. Being ambitious, popular, wealthy - it's all extremely good. According to the modern trends and society. And it's all paramount. Other aspects come alongside, don't they? When they do not, people get really dissapointed, go to specialists - unfortunately, sometimes specialists are we, teachers - and make them fulfill things which their parents in the past and they just recently failed. Make them feel good about themselves. It's a colossal task. But in the real world - it's just a regular daily routine. I will always remember (fondly?) my student, who every other lesson was telling me to correct her and give advice. Obviously, to be ignoring them later and getting offended of corrections and mistakes. Especially, when she noticed them herself. As all she'd wanted to ask - tell me that at least my language is good enough. And when I said, she gifted me (and her face muscles) a rare, but so sincere, smile. Don't give them all. Make them feel enough. It can be a good start. There's no harm in it!(C)

      Oh yes, there are whole courses on how to understand what you actually want. So there is no surprise at all that students come with requests misaligned with their inner true aspirations and needs. Here it is expected of a teacher to be a good psychologist to discern certain markers, solve the puzzle; and to be a good diplomat to convey what he/she understood to the student in an effectively gentle, gently effective manner. "I work as a Probation & Parole Officer and am a former LMFT. I have always believed they come to us for an experience not information. Love that. In my doctoral program we would joke "it would take us 5 minutes to figure out what to tell the patient, and 5 years to tell them", e.g. gift wrap it." (c) From the depths of CZcams.

    @eugenegenov5422 Před rokem

    People are afraid of life. It happens. Uncontrollably. Students enjoy using and studying language when they control the environment and process. Drag them out of their zone of comfort - fear enters the chat. I love the idea from the last movie of the Dark knight trilogy: When Bruce Wayne was imprisoned, he had been trying to leave the Bane's prison, what none had ever done before. And then he met an old doctor, who said that nobody had ever done it as they were using a rope. They knew, the moment they fell, the rope would save them. Thus, they were not trying enough, relying on the rope. Having summoned all inner strength and experience, Bruce faced the challenge without the rope. And prevailed. More realistic meaning of this metaphor I have found today, while reading book on Busido. It is said: 'When you choose between life and death - choose death' That's how you can reach your true potential and develope your inner capacity. Walk through the door and face it. P.S. It might sound too morbid or grave, but without facing the conception of death, or, in this case, rather failure - you will never overcome it. You must know your enemy. I'm going to push the limit of quotations for one comment and cite the same book: 'Studying is good but, mostly, it leads to mistakes' This is the way.(C) P.P.S. I've broken the limit, sorry.

    • @Andy_Lighthouse
      @Andy_Lighthouse Před rokem

      And I thought I was the "Sorry-Cop" from Disco Elysium. :)) No need to apologize whatsoever, those were great thoughts and quotations to learn about! To me it's always the 'Castanedean' idea of the warrior who does everything realizing that Death awaits just round the corner, and every step must be measured through Death's lingering shadow. And when this is accepted, there's no fear actually. Maybe happiness, even! Because you know you live your life as properly as you can -- what then to be afraid of?.. Speaking of fears in the first passage -- as I probably said in the video, to me it's merely a question of what to be afraid of: something superior or something inferior.

And quote our common friend, from one of the first bonfire club talks: 'Nobody can teach anyone anything' We can guide, we can foster, we can nurture, we can push, we can nourish, we can feed, we can treat We can do so many things, really! But never teach - it's just a myth, born, or, in my opinion, rather designed, by the system. Yet, it's important to have a superior, authoritative person, whom you can rely on and ask for assitance in difficult situations or cases. Like a mentor, or, to entitle it formally, supervisor.

    I expressed my opinion on books years ago, when we just had met. I am not going to repeat it, but I want to add. Books are tools which have been manufactured. And student books are the same. They seem too generic. They could work until the point where a student - or a teacher - understands what they need. From here we go to the internet - and never return to books. Regardless the goal or passion. We are living in the era of innovations - chat GPT, chat-bots, tons of online-content. IMHO(H for honourable), this videos, made by you, can bring more value to right students than all Cambridge editions altogether. Lived and learnt: Personally, as you, I'm a huge fan of paper books and there's not a single day when I haven't read the page But, alas, progress and technology dictate the rules for living, today And, for the benefit of our students, we can't ignore them I'd like to finish with my favourite metaphor: A scalpel is a great tool. You could save a life with it, the same time - you could take a life with it. It depends on the hand which governs it. All tools, books, and materials of the world would fail in hands of an undevoted teacher.

      Ah, a nice one here. Quite a discussion could be had! Although, I think in a nutshell you've expressed the essence of it: tools are to be used correctly and when necessary. And then, the time comes for newer, better, more appropriate tools. There is a certain 'aquarium' vibe to the education materials, hence it's mandatory to go to the 'big world' of the language, I can't but support the underlying message of your idea here.

    Nothing is comprehensible - but very interesting! Russian enough. Lanugages are designed to be tools of international - and innernational - communication Understand and to be understood - these should be the main goals and orienters of any language learners, users, students and teachers. Yet We remember, that nothing is quite like flexing language, implementing incredible grammar constructions, and use all power of the warpstone to mutate your simple idea into an infinite monologue - in my case an endless essay - and feel this power of words and symbols, coursing through you fingers, while you are typing ceaselessly. Nevertheless, in the end: Simplicity is the key to mutual comprehension. And not only.
