Vista without any service packs was crap. Everything, even PCs with strong CPUs and plenty of RAM ran like shit on it. But with SP1, Vista is a fantastic OS. Even old hardware runs great on Vista with SP1 or higher. Its reputation was destroyed before SP1 and higher became widespread though but Vista with SP1 and higher definitey does not deserve that reputation.

Simply wineskin it. You can convert any PC program to a .app file for OSX to run natively. Just take a look at my youtube channel for examples.

@grahamhg If you're running workstations for any serious tasks, I highly advise AGAINST custom builds. What you say on up front cost can potentially lose you far more if/when one of those systems craps out and you have to act as your own tech support, which just takes you away from your usual work and takes a system with it, losing productivity. Even if you end up getting HP Z series or Dell Precisions, getting a ready made is the best option. Mac Pro = win of course lol.

@grahamhg BTW, I looked at the Rino site quickly and it looks like OSX is not supported yet. I guess you are stuck on Windows for now.

@grahamhg I don't know since I don't use those programs. I don't know what your needs are but you may be able to run autocad & rhino with virtualbox or vmware player. Virtualbox and Vmware support OpenGL but I don't know if there is going to be a perceived loss in performance in your case.

Correction... A mac will run financial software , in particular, QuickBooks Pro, and I run my business on it, works great!

Ok send me one then with the highest end music programs, Pro tools HD, Logic Pro, FL Studio/7. Make it never have viruses and make it so It can boot in 3 seconds. And shut down in 1 second. And make it look good. Macs are made of Eco friendly materials.

linux is great and even better if you know programming but for simplicity i would suggest macs. i still keep ubuntu in dual boot

Mac is a PC with less expensive parts, a great looking case and a better OS but priced way more then PCs. What sucks about Mac vs PC argument is that they never mention Linux as an alternative. How about upgrading to linux and donating that $200 OS upgrade money to an opensource project that will be forever free and open? Microsoft - you may be stuck with it. Apple - Think different (or think my way) Linux - Think MORE!

@dmc040 I have an Asus G51 - 6gb of ram (upgradeable to 8) with p9700 Intel processor + Nvidia 260m GTX. Can't beat PCs as far as laptop performance specially now with the new I7 processors. See Sager NP8690 & ASUS G51J-A1 for example. My laptop has Ubuntu Linux 9.10 plus XP in a virtual machine and is powerful enough to run all the remaining XP apps with the virtual machine (adobe suite for example).

ya if you never want to play video games. I got a buddy who has a mac. Its nice, but like the iPhone you have to buy each and every update and little apps.

i can do this show in less than 30 seconds, switch to mac, way better, i just switched, its way awsome, and 4GB of ram is definatly better than 2GB, cause can do more multi tasking, this also depends on the type of RAM ure running, DDR, DDR2 or DDR3

I run Vista x64 on a decent (water cooled and overclocked but still cheaper than a Mac) machine and it is lightning fast, even after having it installed since the release of Vista. As far as I can tell, Vista runs at least the same speed as XP. It just needs more hardware to do it. What do people expect considering XP is from 2001? The trick is not filling it up with seven shades of crap that slow it down.

I completely agree. I have never had any problems with viruses on Windows and I doubt many expert users really have. For years I even ran without any antivirus software at all. Running antivirus does not make up for idiots that turn off UAC and run virus.exe then complain that their OS has something wrong with it when really it is just them. Windows gets viruses because the number of Windows users that are morons far outweighs the entire market share of Mac.

And for you people out there saying that Macs are faster than PCs, I can build a computer as fast as the fastest Mac Pro with 1/3 of the price.. so don't come here with speed issues. Macs win at aesthetics, but thats about it ;D

I don't get why people talk so bad about Vista... I never had any problems with it... Any crashes, viruses, BSOD, etc. It's perfect for me! When I use my wife's macbook air, I feel like you don't have as much settings as you do on Windows... It's like both: for "everyone" (meaning, noobies with computers), with big buttons, pretty interface and not so much configuration. Or for experts that know how to use the Terminal, etc. Windows is more for the intermediate users.

microsoft is a software company-they make really good software-its usually the hardware/compatibility issues that lets it down.

Built my rig with a 9800gso and a 19 inch 5ms lcd monitor under 300. You don't get that with a mac. Oh ya, btw both are now intel and there's a linux bootloader that allows you to install mac. quadboot running for me. Windows xp, vista, osx, and obuntu 3-0-0 d-o-l-l-a-r-s
