I think mainstage EDM is more like wwe. Like how we matches are pre determined, outcomes are set. Same on mainstage we know (sometimes) it's a pre recorded set. But it's a spectacle that amazes us in EDM and WWE. Be it a sick move from a rope in a ring, lights, fireworks and visual matching the song. In that moment we forget it's a meticulous thought out performance and we just are left in a moment of awe.

Whenever I want to feel angry, I come to watch this video. And I've been doing it for 10 years now. Even though he's playing from a "pendrive," the transitions between songs are horrible, they change tempo all the time. Not to mention how he's not giving a FUCK about the audience. Every time he realizes there's going to be a transition, he turns to the deck to continue this crap. 30 decks on the table for absolutely nothing. EDM fans are the easiest to please (and I'm included). They're always high on drugs. Just one drop and a strobe light is enough.

Can clearly see him pressing the cue/play button and moving the channel faders up and down or certain tracks. Also the CDJ light starts flashing at 1:23 to indicate the track on that deck is ending (whilst he mixed in the new track)

almost all of the big name DJs do this. If they don't, they have a set playlist they play at every gig. I remember touring back in the day and did the same damn thing. I hated it then and still hate it now. I prefer to keep my sets at least somewhat fresh and change it up everytime depending on how the crowd reacts and how I feel that night. You can tell Steve Angello is bored AF!!! He gets good money though and that's all that counts to some.
