Exploring the San Antonio Riverwalk
Join us on an exciting walking tour of the San Antonio Riverwalk! We begin our journey at the Shops at Rivercenter Mall, a bustling hub with over 100 retailers, 14 restaurants, an IMAX Theater, AMC Theaters, and the towering Marriott Hotel. From here, we descend a couple of levels to reach the picturesque River Walk.
Our first tour stop is the Rivercenter Lagoon, where we take a quick look at a map to plan our route. We start by exploring the manmade extension built for Hemisfair 68, a serene, landscaped walkway that leads us to the original, more bustling River Walk. Along the way, we discover the popular narrated river cruise, which departs from the lagoon by the Marriott Hotel and offers a 35-minute tour of the river on special river barges. Today, the River Walk is especially crowded, as it's spring break week in Texas.
As we continue, we reach the intersection with the original River Walk, where we see Casa Rio, the first restaurant on the Riverwalk, famous for its colorful umbrellas and delicious Mexican food. Walking along this lively section filled with shops and eateries, we find food of almost any type you want. Since we had Mexican food at Lupe Tortilla earlier in the week and BBQ at Cooper’s, today we’re in the mood for seafood and choose Landry’s Seafood House for lunch. We enjoy a meal with a view of the river, savoring seafood-stuffed flounder, cappuccino, Irish crème coffee, crème brûlée, and triple chocolate cake.
Crossing over historic canals and beautifully landscaped sections filled with shops and restaurants, we enjoy the quieter parts of the River Walk. This section is mostly lined with hotels and other living spaces, offering a peaceful contrast to the lively main areas. We climb the steps to E. Houston Street, cross over the bridge, and walk back along the opposite bank of the river, eventually returning to the Rivercenter Mall.
As we re-enter the Rivercenter, we notice the crowd at the river cruise boarding area has increased dramatically since earlier. Reflecting on a delightful day spent exploring one of San Antonio’s most iconic landmarks, we head back to the parking garage and wrap up our video. Don’t forget to check out our other Texas adventures linked in the description and subscribe for more travel vlogs!

You are definitely a professional videographer. This hast to be the best I’ve seen on Alaska. Good enough to be on PBS . The commentary was fantastic, and the music was first rate. Brought back memories of Rick Waksman’s synthesizer. Well done 🤠
What an interesting walk. I haven't been down to the river walk in over two decades. As I'm not a fan of crowds, I can see I won't be making a return visit during spring break either. Thanks!
Thanks! Spring Break is definitely not the time if you don't like crowds! Fall is usually a much better time. I have seen it then when you could just basically get right on the river boats. It's still a fun place with great places to eat anytime though. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
Thanks for the great video tour of this interesting place. I have heard people talk about the river walk, but only saw a handful of photographs. As I watched, I thought that I will probably never vacation there, but that I would love to catch a professional conference hosted in one of the hotels there. It would be a great place to explore between conference sessions.
You're welcome! When I was working in education, we had conferences there pretty often and it was great for that. There's lots of good food and lots of places to explore in addition to the River Walk. Thanks for the comment! Hope you can make it down there one day.
The beauty of this area just can't really be picked up by the camera. Like always, you just have to se it yourself. Thanks for the video.
Very true! I do the best that I can!
@@findushere You did a great job.
@@murphysoutfitters9649 Thanks again!
Fun fact: the bridge @10:25 is several hundred feet above the creek below. It is the highest bridge in many tens of miles. It also crosses the train tracks used by the Branson Scenic Railroad between two tunnels.
Love that bridge. It's one of the scenic places on highway. I did realize that was the same track as the Branson Scenic Railroad. Thanks for the information and for watching and commenting.
Thumbs up if you recall the old 2 lane route 65 before 1999-2000.
👍
Nice to see! I live in Colorado, from this area.
Thank you! It is a beautiful area. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Wanted to watch, but the music was too much!
Sorry you didn't like it...
Heard September is rainy a lot. Rather go in Apr or May when there is snow.
It was certainly raining the week we were on this cruise but I was prepared and it didn't bother me that much. I also heard from someone on the cruise the next week and the weather was good so it's probably hit or miss. I've heard the same things in May. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you!!! I am autistic and new, unknown situations make me nervous. My mom surprised me with this cruise and I was struggling to feel grateful with all the unknowns as I've never cruised before. Last night I watched a few bubbly, talkative travel guide videos that made my head spin. Your video was calm, direct, beautifully shot and informative. You have shown me what to expect and it has really helped me prepare for my trip. I was able to understand the layout, what people wear on cruises, what the towns look like, the train! (which was my only request!) and what to expect from the different dining options (I'm picky about my food wants and needs). Thank you so so so much.
You're very welcome! It's so nice to hear that what I do is helpful to someone. Your cruise does not have to be stressful. You can find many places on board the ship to just sit back, relax, and take it all in with zero stress. Also the ports are easy to take at your own pace. The White Pass Railway is a great trip. I've taken it many times and keep going back to do it again. There are so many choices of food that I think you'll be able to find plenty of things you'll like that will meet your needs. Thank you again for watching and commenting. I hope you have a great cruise! If you have questions, feel free to reach out.
Thank you for the walking tour. Have been to Skagway a couple of times. Brings back good memories.
You're welcome! I too have been there before but this time was different. It was not busy at all and it was cool and rainy instead of the usual hectic and busy days in the summer. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Which hotel did you use? Did you like the one you used? I’m researching that same cruise/ship
We stayed at the Hotel Nexus in Seattle. The hotel was fine but the location was north of the port and far from the airport which is south. It was arranged for our group by the cruise planner. If I were doing it again I would stay close to the airport or somewhere between the port and airport. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you have a great cruise. It's a great trip!

Great video! Wondered what camera you are using to get good footage even though it was raining?
Thank you! I used a combination of a GoPro Hero 9 and an iPhone 14 Pro. Both have great stabilization so no gimbal was needed. The GoPro worked particularly well in the rain because of its fixed focus. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
Thanks for another great drive.
You're welcome! Enjoyed tonight's premiere chat!
We live just a few hours from Seattle and plan to do this next month! Hopefully no storms in august! Thanks for sharing
You're welcome! August should be better for storms for sure! Keep in mind though that it still rains a lot in southeast Alaska so keep that in mind when packing. Have a great cruise! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Although I loved seeing everything about this cruise and you did great job of narrating, and the video, the only thing that was off putting was pictures of the food, the shots were to up close and blurry, taking pictures of your food before it is eaten is more appealing than after you have eaten it. But the rest was very good 👍🏻
Sorry about that! Honestly in several cases I just forgot to take the pictures and didn't always have good close ups but still wanted to give everyone an idea of what the food was like. Thanks for watching anyway!...and taking the time to comment.
Thank you. This was very informative, I'm going on a road trip to Branson, and this is definitely what I needed...😊❤
Thank you so much! I hope the videos help. Be sure to reach out if you have questions. Thanks for watching and commenting.
BRANSON, MISSOURI IS SO MUCH OVERRATED TO SAY THE LEAST!!!! TRAFFIC ON ---"THE STRIP" IS TERRIBLE!!!!
Don't really have to yell 😃but traffic can be pretty bad but much better in the last few years. There are many alternate routes now. I think it's all about what you are looking for. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Learn the parallel routes. Turn off Roark Valley and come back up where you need to be. That kind of thing.

Thanks for your post. I’ve regularly camped those areas past 50 years. The Pine Beatle has ruined lots of forest and makes me cry. I got married in 1978; we honeymooned in Branson because I was in college and my wife was secretary, hence we had no money. Honestly, not a tremendous amount has changed. The most notable change, of course, is that Highway 76 now has a turn lane. Other than that, it’s mostly repetitious - every few hundred yards is a repeat of the last. Of course, now there are scores of buildings and entertainment centers for sale. We still go to Branson every few years - I don’t know why exactly, as every trip is punctuated with more places that are out of business. But there is a Walmart now, for your shopping pleasure.
Branson? No, silver dollar city? Yes ,except those hills!

Oh DANG that looked good! I'm a brisket and sausage kind of Guy too. That's going in the book so I don't forget it. Thanks!
I like almost any kind of barbeque but my go to is always brisket and sausage. There's lots of good barbeque down here but Coopers is one of the very best. They just opened a Black's in Waco and I can't wait to give it a try. I'll certainly post a video when I do. It's a Texas legend! Thanks for watching and commenting.
A great drive, you made a couple good loops around town. Fairly light traffic for a Friday afternoon. I'll bet it's a LOT busier now in late June. Thanks for the video!
Thank you! I'm in Branson now and it is definitely much busier here, at least judging from the people at the Landing. I'm staying downtown and just got here yesterday evening so I haven't even driven down the strip yet. I'll do that today though. Thanks for commenting!

@@murphysoutfitters9649 We're headed back home Monday morning otherwise I'd say we should try to meet up...one of these days!
@@findushere Sounds good.
I would love it if the traffic on the strip was that light all of the time, but I'm sure the businesses there want it to be much busier. I do like how easy it is to move quickly on the Red route on the west end. Watching these videos helped me avoid driving mistakes on my May 31st trip. Thanks. I was proudest of the fact that I was able to leave the Americana Theater after a night show, take a right turn to the Blue route, and take it to some side street between Forsythe and Fall Creek Rd. I took a right, went through a residential neighborhood and came out by Grand Country with time to spare to get into their 10:30 televised show on Friday night. For someone who struggles with driving at night, that was an amazing experience. Anyway, thanks for another wonderful video.

I’m very interested to hear how many luggage one needs to pack for such a trip? If one for you I guess it will be two for a woman 😂. And do you think mid May is a good month to travel on an Alaskan cruise?
I traveled with one large checked bag and a backpack but I packed two large coats for friends in addition to mine in my luggage and also a sports jacket for formal nights. I also packed a flannel pull over and zip up and a waterproof shell. If I hadn't been packing the big coats, it would have been too large for me. One lady in my group was able to pack in one checked bag and small carry on minus the coat I packed for her. I think May is a good time but I hear it can be cool and rainy one week and beautiful the next. That being said it rained on us all week and since I was prepared I still enjoyed it thoroughly!
Many thanks for the details! I packed my Waterpik for the 4-day cruise to Cozumel 😂

How was it as a resident?
I lived in Holester😊
Nice video tour. Thank you!
I joined the premier about the time you passed the Bass Pro Shop, so it ended about a minute later. It is good to see the part I missed. I have been curious about the Ozark Mtn. Highroad since I first heard you mention it. I will tell my daughter and son-in-law about this route to SDC. I know they will be making many trips there. The exit to the red route/Reed Springs looks useful if you are returning to the shows and attractions on the west side of the strip, rather than downtown or Highway 65. I loved your side trip to Hollister. As a child, the best part of the the trip from Harrison to Springfield was passing through Hollister and seeing the buildings. Thank you for sharing this.
The Ozark Mountain Highroad is such an easy and scenic route to the west side of Branson and is often the fastest. I often go that way just for the enjoyment if nothing else. The Reed Springs exit is a bit of a winding road so it can be a little slower. I drive down into Hollister every time I am in Branson. It is such a unique place, plus Hook and Ladder Pizza is there! I'm heading to Arkansas (and eventually Branson) next week to do some video for the channel but won't be down south in your direction on this one. Hope to make it that way soon. Thanks again for watching and as always for your support of the channel.

You're welcome for the video and thanks for the comment! That RV Park always seems busy in the summer. I don't have an RV but it does look relaxing down there. I'm not sure about the flea market. I think that's just Branson Landing parking. Thanks for watching the video!
Enjoying this series of videos!
Thank you. Heading to Arkansas for a few days and then to Branson next week to make some more! Thanks for your ongoing support!
Another great drive. First time visitors to Branson should have a much easier job of finding their way around after watching a few of your videos.
Thank you! That is the hope I want to dive deeper into lots of things in Branson but I still have lots of drives to make!
@@findushere Hmmm. What about a drive to an attraction, then deeper dive into that attraction, all in one video?? But may be better to keep them separate?
@@murphysoutfitters9649 That is always a good question and I always weigh which is best in my mind. I have done that on some videos I make but I become conscience of the length of the drive for those who just come to the channel to watch the video on a particular place or attraction. As an example, I did a recent video in San Antonio where I videoed the whole drive from my sister's to Lupe Tortilla, reviewed the restaurant, food, etc. and then drove back by a different route. I ended up thinking it was a bit much. I always like to include at least a little of the drive though for location perspective. CZcams is always such a balancing act! Thanks for your comments. I always find them helpful and thought provoking.
@@findushere Maybe just the last 15 seconds of the drive to show how the driveway looks on approach? It's so easy to miss your turn when you're not sure what you're looking for.
@@murphysoutfitters9649 That's a good idea.
