I don't know if your friends care, but it's polite etiquette to hit the ball back softly to the other side. Also, to pick the ball up for them and toss it back instead of rolling it back. It would irk me if they kicked it back. Also, you should always try to observe the rules of the game as a sign of sportsmanship.
