Looks like there's plenty of empty homes ? Ideal for when the dinghy invasion arrives !?
I didn't get a notification for this! It's not the only building that's commuted around the place, the Shakespeare pub on Fountain St started its life in Chester and was moved to Manchester brick by brick. From the woodcut of the Welly you showed, it looks as though a spectacle maker also had a workshop on the premises. It's a pity that it had to be moved because of safety issues after the bomb but it's still around and that's the important thing. ✌️
Did tell you 😆
Good video, need to sort your sound out though
Yeah thanks, nobody said anything. Kinda phoned it in on this (sound joke).
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the trip down your city very much.
Thank you for coming along
This is an Aladins Cave, when I'm visiting I spend many minutes wondering through this shop. Stuff you would not find anywhere else.
It's like a time machine
🌽 corn?
Yes
Another fascinating, mini history video, on the first Leeds Corn Market, by the excellent Blue Harvest History Channel.
Thank you
Excellent, love a bit of liquorice and those old sherbert/liquorice dip sticks.
I'd eat the sherbet and throw the liquorice away...
beautiful building if it was cleaned up to it's former glory
Most people don't know it's history.
@Bhh2 even though its wetherspoons I love the Lion and Albert Story as well. Pity the other floors are going to waste.
Picture no7 Branch Road Batley was home to the Salvation Army between 1881 and 1983 when it moved to Bradford Road. You can just make out part of the Salvation Army on the stone over the entrance. I think the building you're talking about was down St James street on the right.
Are you thinking of the Victoria Hall cinema?
@@Bhh2 No I have a map from 1905 and there is a Theatre Royal on St James street on the right going down. The building in your photo is down as the Salvation Army Barracks.
I think the days of small independently run local cinemas are well and truly behind us unless there's some kind of very specific global disaster that only destroys Cineplexes.
We have a few but they're for local people
B.i.n.g.o. an bongo went the cinema hall💪🚬🤠
These tastes very bad
A matter of taste
If you visit the piece hall take a look in the library. it's new in there and has been built around the spire which now comes out through a glass roof. And the a lovely rose window in there. It's clever how they have married new and original
Thank you I'll take more time next visit
13:15 the woods is said to be private property from what I’ve been told by the dirt bmx riders who built the track you saw entering the woods
They said the owner gave them permission and that the owner doesn’t care to do anything with the woods
Thank you. I did say that it's private around the tunnel and I was trying to get as close as possible to send the drone but by accident I stumbled upon it.
Caddy's was the best. 1 shilling and thruppence for a gra pefruit pop with a scoop of icecream. Was a Saturday treat
Friday after school for me
Tried one once, disgusting. Almost as bad as sucking on a fisherman's friend.
How much sugar in each pie ?
A lot
@@Bhh2 Just had a quick look. Roughly about this much czcams.com/video/Uk0P5_KftHs/video.html
@@Bhh2 Just had a quick look. Roughly about this much. czcams.com/video/Uk0P5_KftHs/video.html
I think you might find that these “empty” listed buildings are actually infested with sinister foreign types who are slowly but surely destroying what is left of our town.
Tell Kirklees
Grew up in Dewsbury Caddy’s was lovely ice cream there was also Crossleys in Ravensthorpe who had an ice cream van that came round the streets and who remembers Cider Lolly’s
Loved cider lollies but Dracula lollies were my favourite
18:33 What was the word, please? Was it SAX ?
Tax
@@Bhh2 Ah of course. That makes more sense (daft me). Thank you very much & what a brilliant video. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
When did it finally close ?
I'd say early 80s. I've a picture of a newspaper clipping somewhere.
I do have a vague recollection of going with my grandparents when I was a kid . Closed with the redevelopment of the princess of Wales shopping centre then ?
@andrewormerod2780 yep but they closed down before the development.
Thanks for sharing your Monopoly Takeover adventure in Leeds, Marc. Fun, entertaining and informative! :)
Cheers mate 👍🏻
Did I just saw the red huggy wuggy at 0:00

A Great video and research of what you have discovered,,, neat the end where the tires where dumped ,,, the holes have been left in to encourage Bats to search for shelter during the winter months ,,,, magnificent coverage 🤗👍
Thank you
Shame …it wont be in london
London is already like that
@@Bhh2 what u mean¿
We'll never see the likes of Woolies again, you could get almost anything from our local Woolies and it was only a small town branch. The toy section was very nearly as well stocked as a lot of actual toy shops, selling a variety of cheaper rack toys as well as the major manufacturers lines!
There's lots of things we won't get again mate.
Great Otley Woolworths video, Marc. And what wonderful Woolworth anecdotes! :)
Another off the list
My home town too, what a mess it is now.

Nice 28 Years Later location update video, Marc. Thanks for sharing.

Dewsbury is a foreign country now, we simply do not care about the dump!

Great video thank you. Amazing how nature reclaims all evidence of our existence so quickly. www.railmaponline.com/UKIEMap.php can help rediscover this stuff, it reveals links to archives with photos and original maps including this photo clearly revealing the route of the Dewsbury tunnel www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/images/donations/Stephen%20Helm/Dewsbury/Old%20Dewsbury%20Aerial%20town%20Centre.jpg. I’m inspired now to get my bike out and revisit my birthplace, thanks again.

As a child growing up in a small rural town the 70s Hostess pies were really something super special! Just like moon pies or Hostess Twinkies....!
Mmm moon pies
Morning Marc mate. This was a very interesting video to watch. Thanks for posting it and catch you later on your toy auction stream

Great Morecambe time lapse video, Marc.

lol Sorry mate but the market stalls on a Sunday haven't been £10 for donkeys years. it's a fair few years now since my missus and I did a car boot down there but it was £25 then and it's probably a lot more now. Last time my missus enquired at the office they said they were shutting it all down and renovating, so when they get round to that is anyones guess. Keep up the good work anyways... Oh yes before I forget. remember when you were looking at the furniture near the bottom of the market, well I doubt you'd remember but the first two stalls at the very bottom used to be fruit and veg and no other but Eddie Waring the sports commentator used to work there. back in the sixties.
The market renovation has been talked about for years, doubt it will happen now they spent all the money on whores and booze. I've got Eddie's book, which is an interesting read 👍🏻
A friend of mine, Kat's (not that one) just been to Scarborough for a working holiday, when I asked her what she'd got up to there outside working hours, she said "Nothing much, it'd been rained off"! 😂
Plenty to do when it's raining....
Great Then and Now pictures of Scarborough, Marc.
Cheers mate 👍🏻
Really enjoyed this compilation. Many thanks. ……
My pleasure
Nice video mate. Got my first work overalls from colin in 1966.
Very cool. Shame the town has changed so much
Do you remember in the sixties and seventies the Longcauseway was always full of folks having pic-nics..
Totally. I remember the lights at Christmas the most.
