Cave Diving vs. Wreck Diving

The term "overhead diving" encompasses diving inside shipwrecks, caves, and other environments where a direct ascent isn't possible. Valve Plugs

Pretty simple. Using vale plugs can help eliminate the loss of gas from accidental opening. Well said. Don't underestimate it. I've started maintaining my own regs since two years since I'm a tech diver and I wasn't always happy with the quality of service for the price at my nearby dive shops. I also felt it was important to learn and understand how my regs work, now that I'm doing dives where I depend on them working well. But it does take time and attention to do it properly. Some finicky parts require careful work. And you'll need plenty of tools so the initial cost is quite high. Of course, you can amortize that over many years.
Thank for the tips and reminders
Slide lock 2??
The slidelock 2 is good but the standard azimuth is still my favorite.
Great video
That's a nice thing to say and I appreciate it.
Good to know. I haven't trained either yet but looking forward to. I figured if I was trained for caves that would be good for wrecks too.
Great tip!!!!!
Works great as a handle if you have the right ones
If you like it as a handle you can do that, but if the clips are attached to the line it will make the cylinder loose in the water.
Great article
I'm a new dry suit diver and have a question about running the hose from the condom to the pee valve. I'm wearing multiple layers; base, and insulated. These layers don't have fly or zipper openings. Have you had to cut holes to route the plumbing through this setup? If so, where would you recommend making those holes. Thanks for the video, very informative.
If your undies don't have holes you'll have to make them. Mid thigh is the typical spot and then run the plumbing up from there. Some people prefer a direct connection (cut the plumbing short enough to meet the cath on your thigh) while other route the plumbing in a big loop and their cath up on their body. However you do it, make sure to reduce the chance of hose kinking - that's bad.
Great video
Good points presented clearly, many thanks.
Yeah, I've been using the XDeep ones for years. They're great, even with thick heated gloves. The larger gate makes a noticeable difference.
Woah. These look great!
Well that takes of half the issue...what do you do for the back end 💩

Great video, that trimming clip cracked me up.
I made the whole thing just to feature that clip.
on the Spiegel?
This is the lady luck
One of my most favorite dives for sure.
Great video and super informative
Thanks!
My hero. Love the content good sir.
Pants ? shorts
Great content! BTW, Are you using Garmin G1? How do you like it, any tips?
Yep, that's a g1 solar. It's an awesome watch. 2 tips are to get the bungee strap and swap the dive display mode to big mode so it's easier to read.
@@BarefootBentley maybe you can do a video review of it and some tips that you found? I just started using it
Great video! Do you have any overview of Central / North Florida?
"promo sm" 😊
Whats your favorite rebreather to use. Im looking into getting rebreather certified and im not sure what the best rebreather would be
There are a few units I like over others but it partially depends on what you want to do and where you want to do it. I like the Dive Rite O2ptima Cm, the ISC Tiburon and the Iqsub XCCR. Those are my top 3 picks. Send me an email and I can give you more information on why those are my favorites and why I recommend them.
I didn't relize ginnie springs has thus expance through the cave!
What about the diaper layer? 😅
very good video
Good stuff in that "murphy box". Congrats to 500 subscribers
Great video! I got the skid plate when I when I upgraded counter lungs recently and they put a fresh bag on it. Admittedly I've never dewatered the unit but I upgraded to the pull dump anyways due to the size reduction.
i love ginnie springs
Spare hoses were added to my kit last year, spare secondary necklaces were added yesterday.
How did the whale got Inside
Used to be the ocean. Whale died and got fossilized, cave formed later.
Looks good maybe mask strap (if it can fit) other than that looks good please keep up the good work
New diver looking for answers and you delivered bro. Definitely gonna add me a pee valve in my future drysuit.
Thanks for the tip on the Coleman dryer. It works really well.
Big fan of the fan!
Honestly it is pretty dope hope to see more
That's so cool
Is that Geronimo?
This is basically a standard setup but you're breathing from your octo and keeping your primary on a necklace in case of an emergency. At 40 inches the longest hose is still short, so you're not putting distance between you and the panicked diver. The only advantages are that you know you're donating a working second stage, and the backup is always in the same place. I get that a 7 ft hose can be a lot to handle for a some people, but that's why there is the 5ft hose option. It's routed the same way, except it tucks under your armpit instead of under a hose retainer or canister on your waist strap, so it doesn't require hose management. It's as streamlined as the option shown here, but it gives you almost 2 feet extra distance when donating. This also means the OOG diver can comfortably swim next to you. This seems to me like a half measure when going to a full measure requires no additional effort and very little additional cost. A 5ft hose is only about $5 more expensive than a 40in hose and all it takes is running it across your chest and around the back of your neck. If you want to have your long hose primary in yellow, you can still do that with a 5ft hose. They're available in yellow as well.
Do you keep lubricant in your main save a dive kit if you need to replace an o ring?
Ah! Yes, I should've mentioned that. Good catch. I keep a tube of silicone and a clamshell of trilube. I just ran out of the trilube though so it's not in my (soon to be released) save a dive kit video. You caught me slacking.
Nice video, I'm watching to get to know you!
Great video man! I gotta make my way down to florida for a trip to hit these wrecks sometime!
Let me know and we'll get them on the calendar!

Recent instructor here. This conversation came up at length during a lesson we had on teaching drysuits. It is a conversation that is not had often enough, even during drysuit training courses. Until I got trained as an instructor, I didn’t know how to properly clean the valve and found out about the UTIs people have gotten with permanent psychological symptoms as a result of it, even if it’s only like a 3-hour surface interval without cleaning the suit. People are hesitant to give you advice on how to use it because it can be an uncomfortable topic, particularly for training people of the opposite sex. The she-pee requires shaving and a powder prep the night before. The other option is an adult diaper and forgoing the valve all-together. I have liked the Rochester pop-on condoms since I started to use a p-valve. Definitely shave, and make sure to be careful with your placement. Too far down, you can poke yourself with the barb and too far back, and the adhesive can seal itself as you mentioned. Backflow is a horrible feeling. For cleaning I use a mixture of vinegar and isopropanol, same as ear beer for freshwater diving. Great video and I’m happy to see that people are talking about it more!
What’s the length of the primary hose?
40inches
