I have a BAs in fine art and art history, and this is 100% true. The art world has become so full of frauds, that that's really all there is once you're at a certain level. It wasn't that long ago that "art collecting" was a middle class hobby.
During lockdown we watched "Portrait/Landscape Artist of the Year" and I lost count of how often we swore at the TV. Did the "judges" have a bet with some billionaire on how much shit they could put through? Watching Tai Shan Schierenberg punching the air in celebration, as a painting of -a pat of Lurpak- Petsworth House was revealed made me deeply suspicious. Those judges should have been fitted with electric shock pants that were used every time they came out with their bullshit cliches, like, "it's been overworked", for something that's clearly not finished, or, "it's almost _too good,"_ etc.
Art underwent the same transformation that comics is nearly finished undergoing today. Art used to be commercial. It needed to look good. Now it can look like crap and someone "Educated" just tells you that it's worth something. Problem is the people that are trying to do the same thing to comics haven't managed to con people into paying big bucks for shit comics that "Experts" tell everyone are good.

@@ABW941 Me too. Sometimes, it's a bit confusing, of course. Occasionally, I get a notification which is mostly just random screaming noises, and I realise that something I said 2 or 3 years ago has enraged a flat-earther or some single-issue activist (higher pay for bishops, early release for serial killers etc). I still tend to look on the bright side: imagine being so concerned about the state of the world that you will defend your own solutions even if they are clearly mental. I always tell them 'your commitment is just magnificent'. :)
Instead of talking about it you should do it, A real artist knows that an atom could go off while theyre gripped in it and wouldnt give a shit. Its like youre off in another world. An artist knows this and critics do not.
