My Grand Uncle from Galway died in Ypres in 1915. I have no doubt had he the benefit of hindsight he would have chosen to die here in Ireland opposing British rule instead.
In fairness you cldnt put a black an Tans name on anything except a fire 🔥
"If you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organisation of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain. England would still rule you. She would rule you through her capitalists, landlords and financiers." - James Connolly Now the world is a different place, England herself has lost much power too, but this does not mean Ireland is free. A new Anglo nation has taken her spot on the world imperialist podium, and from there she leads Ireland, nominally independent as she might be, but dominated economically.
It's the start to the end of England rule in Ireland it will happen as sure as night follows day.
OMG, quit interrupting each other . Hence primitive fools abound !
it seems obvious to me that Casement was being blackmailed by republicans.. or the whole thing was a plot to solve the Irish question
Amazing interview. Great to have this available for all. Thank you
He's my great great uncle
No mention of the real leader of Erin, Mary Jane. Shows how little people know
RTE revisionist shit. I’m not buying it. Neither are most Irish people these days. 🇮🇪
You where in the lions den.. Dingle 💚
And 100 years later we all walked around in Premier League Tops and lived happily ever after...
What does home rule matter if your Antiwhite AntiIrish @$$€$ are displacing your own countrymen for the world!?
Did I really hear Mr Bruton say India got their independence whitout voilance
The lonely banna strand 🇮🇪 TAL32
What a truly honorable, kind, and very great human being Roger Casement was but the brutal and savage British government destroyed his body but not his great deeds, his story will be talked about and told all over the world even in hundreds of years time, he will not be forgotten
O Cuiv is like Dev: A delusioned bullshitter.
And the mass bombings of German civilians wasn't a war crime? The mass rapes of German women wasn't a war crime? Must not have been, because none were mentioned at the Nuremberg trials.
RDE's responses are so predictable. While it was an understandable reaction to British duplicity I think the 1916 rising was not justified. It played into the hands of an enemy who probably deliberately provoked it. Nor is it clear that it was a last resort used only after more peaceful approaches had failed. It was not however only a question of having a 'democratic mandate'. We cannot have votes on everything. 'Northern Ireland' owed its existence to the votes of an artificially contrived protestant/ unionist majority. Its days now seem to be numbered since that majority no longer exists, Sorry to give you such bad news RDE! Well actually I am not really all that sorry ...
Any information about the Jacobs garrison?
Well there new enemy' now you all know where it is come from our Dail ff fg sf all with in it
'Home Rule was achieved in 1914 and there was no going back on it'' Except the British government introduced a massive amendment to the Home Rule Bill in 1915 and that was partition wherby Ulster would be excluded from Home Rule & simultaneously the Ulster unonist veto over the majority population of Ireland is introduced which was uttelry disastrous for the remanider of the 20th century. I think people like Bruton are so determined to believe whatever the hell they want to believe that they simply discard all evidence that contradicts the conclusion theyve already come to without doing much research.
Great animation, really displays the importance of the Home Rule Bill in Irish History
So many traitors gathered together.
As a descendant of O'Donovan Rossa. I am truly honoured. As an O'Donovan Blackstaff. I must do them proud 🇮🇪🙏✝ Erin go Bragh
Seriously ministering to Mancunian women circus performers? She was never a Countess because the man she married was no Count. Ireland is better than this thin victimist gruel. The speaker should either change her name or make herself smaller.
Yes.
One slight error there. It was ethnic nationalism, not civic nationalism. Not only did the term "civic nationalism" not exist until the mid-1940's, and only because there needed to be a distinction between the two, but if you read the literature put out by the Pearse, you'd know it was very specifically for the Irish race and for the Irish land. Of course, prior to 2010, nationalism specifically meant "ethnic nationalism" and if you wanted to make a distinction you'd say "civic nationalism" instead of just "nationalism." -- And let's be honest here, we both know this. I noticed RTÉ has been slowly retconning over the last 20 years the racialist element of the Irish Nationalist, and we shouldn't be erasing history just because it's more convenient. It's anglo behavior to rewrite history, let's not larp as brits.
Ουίσκι, ξωτικά κι αγώνας για λευτεριά... αυτό είναι για μένα η Ιρλανδία!
pretty feeble attempt to undermine Irish history, any nation invaded and subjected to a brutal apartheid and a famine to boot doesnt exactly adopt queensbury rules attempting to evict the oppressor,,,The Irish suffered greatly under English domination.

Ireland for the Irish ☘️ ❤
the fanny went unmolested lol
Everywhere in Europe 1916 is symbolic of extreme loss and suffering. In Ireland it’s celebrated. The rising was a mistake - not only because of the timing and the reaction it caused, but because it led to partition, mass movements of people, division, civil war and the troubles we still deal with today. If the Easter rising would not have taken place I am convinced Ireland would have remained united - and would have become peacefully independent.
May the green sod of earth lay gently on her soul. Incredible lady
Get the British out and now have yourself ruled by Europe......yep.....that's real independance
Its hard to know which is worse!
Hi Felicity, thank you for this short documentary on Joseph Cantwell; I'm assuming you are related to him? We have two watercolours by a Joe Cantwell and wondered whether you would like to see them? Helen
I am surprised they went through with this. After the I.R.A.'s bombing campaign in Britain in the '80s, I thought a dynamiter would be quietly hidden.
Stop Irish genocide 2023❤☘️
Germany sold guns to the UVF too.
When they got married, he was 61 and she was 15? 😳
I wonder if life in Dublin was worse that life in say Liverpool, London or Glasgow? From what I've read, the British working class of 1913 were treated like cattle everywhere.
You can't blame a cake without breaking eggs . Freedom does not come cheap . War is hell & yet we humans keep doing it .
The West Brits in RTE have no right to question Irelands Heroes. What Country didn't have to fight for their Independence? These Irish Unionists should be ashamed of themselves.
Why did the so called loyalists allow the Clyde Valley boat to be sent to the scrap yard it came back to Larne with thousands there to see it and then allowed to rot and eventually scraped.
Kevin Myers 10.32 Well ask the United States that one Kev.
Colonisation of Ireland or any other Country was a Sin against God and Humanity. We can't rewrite History to suit everyone. A Thief is just a Thief.
