I love how she talks to you, is very much a you are my safe space please be gentle with me sounds. My birds eat from my lips the same way, it is such a special privilege. Weight loss, dehydration and kidney problem. She didn’t want to eat. She had very huge discharge scab under her wing last 3 weeks. I was waiting that naturally gone. And it actually gone last night. She all picked it. Not she back to normal and home is nice and warm. Oof this is why I hospitalise at home myself and learned to do all the medications, so costly. You are doing so well, I am so happy for your birds. Make sure the leg tag stays loose and that her leg doesn't grow into it, my birds would develop thick scaling of their legs and I had to moisturise them regularly! Think it was nutritional or genetic

  • @Kuiriel
    @Kuiriel Před 19 dny

    My birds are 75 - 80g, when they were down to 62g it was due to health issues. Great food mix though. I suggest not having perches over the food as it is going to get them pooping in there, then they avoid eating and it's a waste. Should be able to get stainless steel bird dishes to put along the side of the cage near and above the perch slightly so they don't poop in it, and for birds that don't fly you can use ceramic dishes don't tip over easily on the floor. Probably in sizes like 150ml. I also suggest segmenting the oranges rather than cutting (break into the tiny orange components) , that way a single piece of orange lasts all day.

    • @Noisy-miner
      @Noisy-miner Před 19 dny

      I think NSW species have smaller noisy miners than qld. My one all between 58 to 63. 80 is very big for NSW people. My cocktail is 83g. Also wild miners around here I look after they also small size. I’d love to have big noisy miners😂I usually put all foods a bit front or perch to make them to eat easily . I’ll change orange to segment tmrw

    • @Kuiriel
      @Kuiriel Před 19 dny

      @@Noisy-miner when I say segment I mean really tiny - the tiny tiny pieces after you peel the internal skin off the inside segments. Give them one piece at a time if you want to really make them squeal happy as it bursts in their mouth, or a pile in their bowl for them to be happy. You just don't want the food 'under' their butts or they'll defecate into it and then you get issues with disease etc. My birds were from SA, compared to Vic and Queensland - same type. I don't think there's a size difference besides age and strength.

    • @Kuiriel
      @Kuiriel Před 17 dny

      @@Noisy-minerhave you trimmed her toe nails so they are less sharp? A nail cutter is a bit difficult and can twist their nails and then you end up with bleeding. You can get special trimmers but still they can bleed a, lot from their toe nails. I bought a baby nail file,so it is pretty soft and takes a while. You should have septic powder or something from the vet - I use a little bit of turmeric that I can put on their toes nail but it helps for very small bleeds, if you get a gusher I don't know what you'd do besides holding pressure and going to a vet. I should put up some videos of what I've done. Have you sprayed them for mites? (take food away from cage first, try to cover their eyes when spraying) It can by why they get itchy. Do you know why she's scratching? You mentioned it to do with organ problems? What has the vet said?

    Anti-inflammatory medication like meloxicam can help if there is bruising etc? Could be neurological damage otherwise, I don't know how they treat that. I got him really bad storm day 9pm under his nest I knew 3 chicks in a nest. I was fully wet by heavy rain and wind. Then this bird fell from the nest right front of me right time right place.because I was there. He strongly hit on the bottom of the tree by wind. He screamed very loud. He couldn’t move little while. Then next day I saw he had no problem without walking. He can’t land nicely after fly. Can’t perch with one leg on tree, he can’t scratch. He can’t turn his head 180 degrees His body is always moving even he is sleeping Obviously he has head trauma or spinal neurotically damage like you say. I can’t give him back wild. So he is with us.

    • @Kuiriel
      @Kuiriel Před měsícem

      @@Noisy-miner A vet visit would confirm if he has a break in his shoulder or hip. You don't need an expensive scan for them to do a general health check up and provide advice on management especially since it's been a while. But it could be useful for understanding what sort of stretches etc he could do. Many vets will still treat with kindness and not snatch him away from you. Just make it clear you are there as a patient.

  • @Kuiriel
    @Kuiriel Před měsícem

    If you have any questions about medicating them i can advise. The vets often would give instruction about just putting the medicine on the side of the beak or pushing it in but those instructions are to do with parrots usually. For honey eaters I would gently open the beak which is the hardest part and then I would insert the syringe into the throat with no needle obviously until the tip of the syringe is down past where their eye is to make sure it's nowhere near the breathing hole and of course only small amounts at a time. And I'd have to make sure they didn't get a chance to flick the medicine out straight away but that really happens most if I get it on their tongue.

    • @Noisy-miner
      @Noisy-miner Před měsícem

      Yes pls we really need someone who knows about noisy miner experience. Me and my partner working to put all meds together in his mouth open then syringe down. He hates which is really hard to do it. Bit lucky Chibbi is very easy to handle we call him “silly miner” because he never fly or upset. Are you getting meds from the vet?

    • @Kuiriel
      @Kuiriel Před měsícem

      @@Noisy-miner Yes, a good avian vet will be no issues. Walk in in person to see what they're like. If you don't feel safe with one vet, just talk to another. Any avian vet will have seen quite a few of these and I'm sure a few pets among them. The older the vet, the more likely they've seen someone with a noisy miner companion. Anyone experienced with honeyeaters full stop will be good. Putting medication on the beak is hard only the first few times because we are afraid of getting it into their airways. But if you know where the airway is it gets much easier. I gently open the beak and hold it, then with the other hand I point the syringe in (usually only 50 unit syringes, I find the 1ml syringes a bit too large but still doable. The vet will explain you can actually pop the syringe in fairly deep if needed but to the level just past the eye is fine in my experience and keeps it away from breathing hole. They do hate it, so I give them love and treats after and try and wash the medicine taste down quickly with food before they can cough it up on their tongue. It was only a challenge to begin with, it's easy now. I don't know what your licensing options are. Sometimes there are exceptional circumstances and they'll allow things, at least in other states. Not sure about NSW. There's a biodiversity conservation license but I think that might not count. Noisy Miners (0634) can be kept under license B2 and B3. That's all about being bred in captivity though. I would keep looking into it. They revise the rules every year or so it seems and the rules re these birds seem to be getting better. In SA you don't even need a license any more it seems. Not sure how to send you a private PM with suggestions for vets who can do a remote consult.

    What a beautiful bird. She loves you so much. That cry she is doing is reserved for the most emotional and desperately happy to see you of feelings. Even my birds don't make that noise to me unless they've been distressed. I recommend warm water to soften up the muck on her beak and gently teasing it off, if scissors can be avoided. She has already lost so many feathers. What do you feed her? I use "wombaroo lorikeet and honey eater mix" - the food was actually developed using a flock of noisy miners as test subjects, and it's kept my birds alive over 20 years.
