This River has a MASSIVE Return of Chinook Salmon | Fishing with Rod #salmonfishing #fishing #salmon
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 12KPĆed 21 dnem
Over 100,000 chinook salmon return to Vancouver Island's Somass River every September. If you want to learn how to float fish for salmon, this is the place to do it. We spent a couple of days fishing with guides at @murphysportfishing, which offers multi-day guided trips and lodge accommodations. Check out what @LifeOfLindaLee caught near the end of the video! Great vid mate! Going to buy 4 R5s. All the best from Australia!
Here's me thinking it was going to go Splashy Splashy!
Itâs delicious and a great source of omega 3 acids! Not many people know of this
better to leave the scale on, if the fish is ocean fresh
Most of my buddies throw away the skin off the bbq. I pan fry it like this too. My kid loves them. He calls them salmon chips. Best when you spread oyster sauce on the salmon 10 mins before the bbq.
Thatâs a great idea!
My new favorite appetizer!!
Nice video Rod & Linda. Fishing for pike on a fly rod is wicked fun đ
Will a medium 8-17 pound 3/16th to 3/4 ounce rod be okay for coho ?
That is more than ok. My favourite spinning rod for coho salmon is rated 6-10lb, but if there is a chance that you'd get into fish in the mid to high teens, I'd go with the rod you mentioned.
We get coho usually from 7-12 pounds but the odd 15 pound and 30 just hoping my medium 7 foot rod will keep up lol
Making me oh so jealous Rod đ«. I move back to England just, before the Salmon start running đąđą. Tho there is a couple of good carp fishing lks near me. Tight lines Rod đŁđđŁ.
idk i would be tripping up over all that line that's hanging out lol
I just paid $39.99 a pound.
Fresh fish are not cheap these days.
@@FishingwithRod You not kidding. When I was a kid in New Brunswick my father would come home with a gunny sack full of 1 œ - 2 lbs lobsters. They were $1.00 a dozen, not a lad, a dozen!
How do u get a boat there
I don't see any issues with flossing. I was just on the Kenai River last week watching people floss for salmon. That's the common way to catch salmon in the rivers.
Nice!!
Get it on the reel rod. Good to see you enjoying other fisheries
Thatâs awesome haha
Great video mate very well explained you speak good english
Iâd like to find this lake
Nice video, is this Somass river near Port Alberni in Vancouver Island? We are planning a small family trip into this area at the end of this August. If it the same river i should get my fishing rod with me.
Awsome video! I canât wait to go salmon fishing on Vancouver island soon!
Pinks are in abundance mid island already
I love eating SM Bass. Thanks for posting this.
Fitting tuneđ
When life hands you lemons,make lemonade đ đ€Ł đ
I remember growing up in the Okanagan (West Kelowna) and seeing my dad watching your videos, I haven't watched any of your videos for about 12 years until I was searching for Northern Pikeminnow content this morning and I stumbled upon your channel - the most ironic part is that I moved to the Cariboo (Williams Lake) two years ago and I have just started fishing again so it's really cool to see you fishing the local lakes! I love your content and the filming methods you use, you are by far my favorite fishing CZcamsr now!
đ Awesome sound track đ€Ł.walking across fields that have sheep in them, carrying you fishing gear. Sheep will follow you, thinking that you have food for them. Yep a jar of mint sauce đ đ & , some Cornish pasties. đđđđ
Lol that's awesome, fishing up on the skeena river in Terrace it was bears and foxes
Herding with rod
Must be the Buchanan flock on Vancouver island
having never fished for pike before, why did you speed the lure in after the first strike instead of giving him a second crack at it?
That was just overexcitement, I should have kept going slowly like you said.
@@FishingwithRod đ
Love this! Im surprised this is your first time targeting surf perch, but it was real fun seeing you and Linda secure some keepers. Is there a big Surf Perch community in BC?
We donât really have a surf perch community, not that Iâm aware of anyway. Here in BC, if it isnât salmon or steelhead, no one is really that interested which is unfortunate. I love how Washington and Oregon have much more diverse interests when it comes to target species.
What length and brand of rod are you using?
Caught some nice ones at fuller.......1-2lbs......
silly bait fishermen
Oh? Would you like a medal?
@@FishingwithRod I don't need the notoriety that's your thing
@@robertrichard2739 Sure you don't, yet here we are.
@FishingwithRod somebody got a chip on his shoulder which generally showed some reality to the comment the chipee has in question
@@robertrichard2739
Nice to see Tay Tay North having fun out there.. Its nice to be living 2 minutes from that river.
Looks killer; such a beautiful place.
Wow Gill! An awesome and complete review of all the gear needed to fish for pinks or coho salmon. I was very impressed with your complete review! đđđđ
Cool catch Rod, Carol from Sydney, Australia
Thanks Carol, they kind of look and behave like a bream, sweep, silver drummer or even a silver trevally. đ
@@FishingwithRod exactly! I have great fun catching all those species in the surf near where I live. Lures or bait.
Most fun of all love surf perch fishing...
You looked so happy when you caught your first perch as if it was your first fish ever. đ very nice video!
Hi Rod, know you prefer to use lighter floats when possible but have you ever tried throwing 2oz rated floats (with corresponding 2oz sinker) on the 106M Technium? Wasnât sure how strict the lure rating is for this rod as the stated max is 1.5 oz.
Your laughs and giggles catching your first surf perch highlighted the fun you have fishing. Never lose that enthusiasm and joy.
In the Great Lakes we have perch and jumbo perch and they have a longer body. Your perch look more like our crappie and blue gill. But what's important is how they taste!
They look a lot like European sea Bream! CHEERS from HERE!
First rule of fishing. The fish are always jumping, 'Just over there.' The aquatic version of, 'the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.'
are they good eating like the yellow perch?
Great. video, Rod. One of my favorite fisheries here in Oregon! The entire 400 miles of the coast has lots of perch with very little competition. Here, the last 3 hours of incoming tide is usually the best time to fish. Were you using "Gulp bait"? My best bait is live sand shrimp. Mole crabs are also very good. One day a couple of years ago I was headed to the mouth of Elk River to fish for Sea-Run Cutthroat and decided to try my #3 Blue Fox spinner at the mouth of the river in the surf. Caught 25 Redtails as fast as I could cast out (all released). I've never been able to duplicate that. "Hooked on fishing" guy uses 4 inch plugs to catch Barred Surfperch near the SF Bay. Sorry to run on. The perch seem to like the white foamy surf areas, probably because the waves dislodge mole crabs. Also, the troughs are the best places to locate feeding perch.
What kind of rubber worm is that? What hook size do you use?
They're Gulp Sandworms. I fish for perch in the same general area and usually use size 4 or 6 hooks
They were not actually. Since I didn't have any, I took some Jackall Necko Flick which I have for bass, and just cut a tail piece off to put on the hook.
@@FishingwithRod ah I see, my mistake!
i wish the east coast of the island had surf perch too! have to go to the west coast to catch those little guys. great episode Rod!
Nice đŁ video Rod & Linda đđ. I can't wait to catch sea Breem & sea Base, here đŽó §ó ąó „ó źó §ó ż. Just waiting on all of my fishing gear to be shipped to me, from B.C đšđŠ.
