70814 and 66846 bring a lengthy engineering train consisting mostly of ballast (and one sleeper wagon) across the Royal Albert Bridge and through Saltash station with the 6C26 0537 Westbury Down TC to Burngullow Junction. 1st March 2024.

70801 heads through Saltash with 6Z57 1125 Burngullow Jn. to Exeter Riverside N.Y., the first of two such trips on this day as the Royal Albert Bridge and the Devon banks prohibit moving the full load in a single move. Unfortunately the trial doesn't appear to have been that successful, apart from the two trial days it didn't run again.

On a very warm evening 47712 'Lady Diana Spencer' and 47810 lead the return leg of 'The Statesman' over Coombe viaduct and into Saltash station, their speed greatly reduced as they wait for a Penzance bound Castle Class set to clear the single line section of the Royal Albert Bridge.

This weekend saw D6817 and D6851 'Flopsie' hauling the LSL private railtour into and around the south west. This video gathers various footage of the tour taken around Saltash, Cornwall, 08th-10th April 2023. The final clip was shot in gale force blustery weather, hence the occasional issues with focus as the camera tried to steady itself!

D1944 'Craftsman' & D1935 'Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013' give it some clag as they lead the return leg of the 'Cornish Riveria Statesman' tour from Penzance to Derby, through a grey and mizzling Saltash station, 23rd July 2022. Apologies for the slight jump in the video, I've had some issues with my camera but thankfully they should now be sorted out.

37 looks stunning in old BR Green livery , I do notice on theses rail tours that they always use mk1 generator van, 37 don’t support ETS to coaches ?
Yeah it certainly does suit them well! I noticed the increasing presence of generator vans too, apparently there are a number of reasons for it such as reducing overall load on ageing locos, reducing the need for high engine revs when stopped, ensuring constant supply when detaching locos for running around, enabling non ETS locos (such as freight) to haul railtours etc. Perhaps given the mix of coaches in the consists (mk3 sleepers, mk1 restaurant car pullman lounges...) it helps with all the different load and supply requirements too?
@@trainsbythetamar you’re probably right it’s a lot of stress on aging heritage stock giving constant power supply to so many coaches it pulls with the buffet car and mk2 mk3 coaches have air conditioning fitted so probably need 3 phase supply to run all that, I suppose generator van can be left running when locomotive is uncoupled and staff can still work on board getting it ready for the next outings.
