LATW Excerpt - Dallas
This is an excerpt from my documentary Laughing All The Way. This clip is from the Dallas segment and includes an introduction from myself. The Laugh Across America crew decided to visit Dealey Plaza before the Dallas comedy auditions. While I found it interesting to see the location of the assassination of our beloved president, it didn't mix well with our comedy state of mind. It was a short visit, obviously.

It felt like I was making The Steve Caito Show, but that didn't last long. Did I treat him fairly in the documentary? How about Jay Mohr and Mary Thomas? In this video I explain the reasoning behind my decisions about how I treated certain individuals in my documentary, Laughing All The Way.

Addendum: The CGI of LATW
zhlédnutí 15Před 2 lety
The first animation I did prior to editing the documentary is one that never made it into the documentary. I wanted to set the mood and feel of LATW in the opening titles sequence but I needed to go a different direction with it for various reasons. I liked the first animation so much, I decided to share it here. Maybe I'll use it in the documentary on the making of the documentary. No, seriously.

Laugh Across America 2002 - Crazy People!
My dad and i used to travel to las vegas at least once a month when i was a kid in the 90s, and we always stayed here. I loved watching this, up until we finally moved to vegas until i moved away in 2010. Just went back to Vegas last month and while we didnt stay at circus circus, we did visit. It was very depressing to see my favorite childhood casino become so terrible and dumpy. Im wondering how much longer is has until Vegas finally tear it down.
Circus Circus is one of only a few original casinos to survive in Las Vegas. Something tells me that it will be the last. It might not be in very good shape, but it still makes money somehow.
@@bejarano1960 I hope it sticks around, they're going to take down the Excalibur here soon in the next year. Broke my heart.
@horticulture3888 The Excalibur is a Circus Circus property, which means they are more than willing to destroy what they have built. I'd like to think that the Circus Circus is special, but this is Vegas, where nothing is sacred, except for the dollar.
cute clowns
I don't get how this doesn't have more views, so interesting and funny.
❤
He also served a long time at Cincinnati wkrc
Yes, Brad Johansen went on to work at WKRC in Cincinnati as their sports director and anchor, not long after we finished this documentary. I've only spoken with him briefly, once, since 1990. As far as I know, he's still at WKRC.
You just had to be there
What a shame! Anyone know the address of the warehouse or what is there now?
I don't know the address but it was directly to the north of the Circus-Circus hotel, right on the corner at Las Vegas Blvd (The Strip). The Arby's restaurant was built there and lasted for many years. Then it became a mini-mart, or something similar. Now I think it's just a vacant lot, but in Vegas, vacant lots don't remain vacant for long. Even though it wasn't pretty, I miss Dan Tanna's apartment.
@@bejarano1960 thanks for the info! We just got the DVDs and started watching the series. Always find ourselves trying to figure out where they are in every scene and what is there now :-)
@@tracyking7119 There is very little of the Las Vegas seen in Vega$ that remains today. To make it even more difficult to identify locations, they would edit between places that are not near each other in real life. The locations that do remain, such as Caesar's Palace, look nothing like they did in the 70s, and can be hard to identify.
Remember being 12 and watching these as my parents were out gambling
awesome
Thank you. I plan to post an HD version of this, hopefully soon.
Gosh, so many memories as a kid. I love this!!!
Hopefully good memories. My memories are different from yours, of course, but I have many of them, as well. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Mikes got jokes😂
Yes, Mike and I never missed an opportunity to use humor in our journalism, when appropriate. It's how we kept our sanity.
I never even there were bloopers! All i remember was the circus tv without bloopers. And without the players card ad. Moved to vegas 6 years ago . I think I would rent a room just to watch this clown television. The nostalgia
Yes, this version with the bloopers is a special cut that I did for the Circus-Circus and the agency executives. We screened it during a party. I decided that this version would be more fun to share. Thanks for your comment.
At 350#, 250 or 150. Gil.. you will always be Buck. And my hero. I am happy for your health, but you will always be Buck. Love you!😊😊
Yes, Gil is an American icon. Coincidentally, not long before I shot this, I worked on a movie with his Buck Roger's co-star, Erin Gray. I've now worked with most of the Buck Roger's cast, all on separate projects. Funny how that worked out.
This is ground breaking for 1990 i didnt think it was that old is this the first time anything like this was shown ?
Yes, I definitely got away with more than I had expected. It was also the first time that someone said the word "shit" in a prime-time television program. I figured that if hearing that word was offensive to anyone after what they had just witnessed, they weren't paying attention. I felt it was important to let viewers experience this in the same way I did when I shot it, in all its graphic detail. Thank you for your kind comment, and thank you for watching.
Cute and hysterical
Best documentary ever!!!
Thank you, you're very kind. To receive such a compliment for a documentary that I did over thirty years ago means a lot to me.
Lol I like Gary porters comment at 5:44 lol
Thanks Chuck for the update, from Michael in Yuma.
Thanks, Mike! I sure wish you could be here for the screening.
So funny. I love how fast she changes directions 😂
Was Stephen Parent visiting the person who lived in the guest house in the back? If so, that person would still be up. Did they hear the gunshots and the screams?
The person that Parent was visiting claims to have been listening to loud music with headphones. Having visited the home as it was in 1969, I can tell you that it was unlikely that they would have heard screams or gunshots. If they DID hear anything, it would have sounded like people partying. This person's testimony is available for reading.
@@bejarano1960 But, did the people in the Tate/Polanski house hear the gunshots?
@rosemarywoodhouse4832 I assume you're referring to the shots that killed Stephen Parent. Parent was killed near the gate. I don't think you can appreciate just how far the gate is from the residence. You can't even see the house (or just barely) from where Parent was shot. In addition, the surrounding hills tend to absorb much of the sounds echoing through the canyons. Had you been standing at the gate, you would've heard those gunshots but would never have heard the sounds of screaming, even when the victims ran outside. The acoustics in the canyons play tricks on our ears.
Crazy how at home this made us feel.
Roman guilty too
Care to elaborate??
I hope you can share the music with us... thank you.
THANK YOU so much for posting this. I was going to post on my Facebook the opening theme to the show "Vegas" to commemorate the team's Stanley Cup championship win tonight. ...I found this and posted it to my Facebook instead. This is a real treasure. .....I agree with all the comments that there should be a tribute, statue, monument, street name, etc. for either Dan Tanna, or the late great Actor Robert Urich-who played that character. .....Vegas was perfect in that era. Not over built and tacky like it is now. You didn't have carnival barkers putting escort ads in people's hands. Than have them thrown down and blown all over the street. .....I enjoyed the tour of the Mob Museum. The Pawn Stars shop visit was alright. I'm in my 60's and I will do my recreation in Reno, which is much closer to my northern Calif. home. ......Someone please post an update about Dan Tanna's car. Was it sold to a collector or is it in a place like the Clark County Museum?

This is what was on the tv everytime you turned it on on Circus Circus, memories
So, a little bit about Dr. Martinez. He returned to UMC in 1997 as a surgeon, but was sued for malpractice. Turned into a massive legal battle that made it to the NV Supreme Court. Doesn’t sound like he won. Very unfortunate. He now practices in Utah in hyperbaric medicine and surgery. Super unfortunate. I remember watching him on Trauma: Life in the ER saving a young girl’s life. I guess his brother died in a car accident, and since then, he’s described himself as a “poor loser” when it comes to life and death. Oh well- I still look up to Dr. Martinez as paramedic turned med student
Thank you for the info. I've been told some of what became of him in the years since I did the documentary, and some of it can be researched online. I've tried to stay in touch with some of the trauma staff but it has been over 30 years. Sadly, some of them are no longer with us.
It’s crazy how those shops in the promenade mall are mostly all gone now.
The first time I went there was 1984. My brother and me did a western US tour in my dads 78 olds. We stayed at the imperial 300 motel on the strip. I lost $20 bucks in the circus circus on a slot machine. That was all the money I had. Later that day, a monsoon moved through and cars were floating down the street. We left the next day and I didn’t return for about ten years.
R.I.P. CHARLES MANSON
Government and corporate gangsters have ruined Vegas.
Well that's very sad.
Over the course of human history, man has always had Satan. When the consciousness of humanity was ingrained in the metaphysical, they didn't have to make devils out of human beings. Now, since we're living in a godless world, we have to prop people up as Satan (Charles Manson, Adolf Hitler, Ted Bundy) so that we can have some understanding of what evil is supposed to be. It's incredibly ignorant and ultimately a sign of our declining understanding of humanity to not take responsibility over our own system and the products in produces. We'd be much better off if we recognized and qualified the "monsters" that have been created through it as human beings. If we don't do that, it's a slippery slope.
Ok so I enjoyed it - but I don't know these people by name. Perhaps when a person is first shown you could caption their name?
Thank you for watching the trailer. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It is not customary to put names on the screen in a trailer. Some of the names are spoken and can be heard in the audio. The names DO appear in the full documentary, of course. A trailer is a teaser. Wanting to know the names is one more reason to see the documentary, once it becomes publicly available. Some of the names in this trailer are Mark Allen, Dylan Brody, Kathleen Dunbar, Don Barnhart, Brad Upton, Natasha Leggero, Jorge Garcia, Danielle Lucas, Ken Kragen, and Suzanne Whang. There are many more, but it would not be practical for me to list them all here. If there are specific individuals in the trailer for whom you'd like a name, let me know.
@@bejarano1960 Looking forward to the full documentary! P.S. Your channel Rocks!
Great video! Thanks for sharing! Makes me nostalgic! Just subscribed
I loved that show.
So much nostalgia, I miss Circus Circus. The Buffet had the best sweet cheese blintzes I had ever tasted but last time I went, they weren’t there anymore :( Also, I remember when I first watched Clown Cops, I was looking forward to the next episode that was advertised (Easy having too many espressos) but obviously, it didn’t take me long to realize that it was never coming 😂
Clown Cops was my favorite segment of this video to shoot, mostly because of working with the clown actors. The Clown Cops segment was written to promote The Steakhouse restaurant, one of the best steakhouses in Las Vegas. Clown Cops was basically just an elaborate commercial designed as a parody of old 70s TV cop shows. It wouldn't have made much sense to have another episode withing that overall video. Had Circus Circus decided to do another video sometime later, believe me, I would have done another episode of Clown Cops. Alas, they decided to go a different direction. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Also, the buffet might have had the best cheese blintzes. the Circus Circus buffet has always been considered to be one of the worst in town. It is, however, one of the most affordable. Anyway, thank you for your comment.
What's wrong with murder? In certain circumstances. Charlie never killed anyone. Or did he?
Under what circumstances is murder acceptable?
