Amazing & Soulful Blues Licks With This Technique
I have that same guitar. It plays and sounds really well but it seems to have more string tension and therefore a bit harder to play than the SG or the Les Paul.
What gauge strings do you have on it?
Also, depends how you run the strings through the bridge. You can get a real slinky feel on les pauls by stringing it back and over the tail piece (rather than straight through).

This deserves a lot more views. Best lesson I've seen for self esteem. Most skip the upstrum in the riff
Awesome! Thanks for the comment.
Nice funk/jazz. Killer rock licks too.👍
Thanks very much. They are very nice guitars to play.
I'm looking for something that I can program to stop a loop and change a preset with 1 button. Doesn't seem like this can do this. Anyone know a way?
Good question - with this I think your best option for doing it all in the helix would be to use snapshots. So, you could set up your loop - exit the looper and then use the snapshot settings to change the sound. With a little bit of pre planning you will get the result with this approach. If you aren't familiar with using snapshots have a look at the channel and there are a few tutorials there. Good luck, Ryan
Thanks for the video! I’m a bit confused. Can you play presets without the foot switches, just by scrolling with the knobs, or do you need to assign a preset to a foot switch? Ty!!!😢
I'll try it. Thanks dude. Greetings from Mendoza, Argentina! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Yes I highly recommend it. Try it for a month and let me know how you go. Muchas gracias por tu mensaje, Me encantaria a vistar argentina algun dia y sentir la cultura. Mis vinos favoritos es de Argentina jaja. Best wishes, Ryan
@@hpmguitar You have to visit Mendoza, the continental capital city of wine. Best Malbec of the world. Are you from GB? With a few pounds, you can do a lot here. Just search it in Google. In a month I will back here. Blessings! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I want to
Great!
Ya but how do you enable that to work. I keep changing to other presents instead of snapshots.
if you look at the full tutorial - all the steps are there
I didn't know this trick. Now I have one more snapshot to use. Thanks dude!!!
🤘
Oh you know it big dawg
This is sick man🤟🏻
Awesome. Thank you very much
Hey Lewis. Great info. Thank you
Awesome thank you
How can u make it red after u made that specific modify on a snapshot? I just dont want it to stay white. (from the helix, not from edit)
Are you referring to the effect parameter on the edit screen after you make a snapshot adjustment? or on the pedal board with the control switches that highlight the snapshot currently selected?
Such a smooth sound, nice :)
Awesome thanks Wade.
So Metal Zone is better. I hoped so, as this is what I have. 👍🏻
The trusty old metalzone!
Aren't you getting any latency?
No what you see in the video is what you get. I didn't notice any latency issues whiles recording the video.
So the chord progression is C sharp minor, A, E ?
Yep that's the progression right there.
Great demo. Brilliant. Thanks
Great! Glad you liked got something out of it.
Wow fantastic demo👌good sound - looking at one currently🫵
They are beautiful guitars. Best of luck with finding the right one for you. If you have any questions - just let me know. Best, Ryan
You didn't finish the song...bridge?
I think there was a second video to go with it. Cheers
Glad you're flipping the image when you're working on helix now 🫡
Full video please. 🤟

@@hpmguitar thanks man!!
@@mikedegracias8616 No problem. Enjoy!
thanks
You're welcome!
lesson valeu
Awesome thank you
Amazing, is there a backing track for this?
The best practice or "backing track" would be to practice the arrangement up to the point where you can play it along with the recording. This will help you fine tune the phrasing of the song. All the best, Ryan
Name of the effect
A stutter is one way to describe. If you watch the full version of the video it will show you how to set up the effect on your helix.
Does EXP 1 have to be engaged when looping, or can EXP 2 stay engaged?
I"m sorry I don't understand the question. Why are you aiming by having the expression pedal engaged while looping?
Sounds beautiful
It's an awesome Guitar!
C7#11 voicing is fire
Glad you liked it.
When accompanying a vocalist, are you following their phrasing?
You can, of course. Especially once you have a good handle on the fundamentals
@@hpmguitar I normally play by myself and the first time I played with someone singing I started focusing on their phrasing and we sounded better.
awesome vid, bro! i'm starting to make vids, i noticed you included photos of these guys. anything i have to do legally, or is this counting under fair use?

Nice work Tyler. Thanks for commenting
Just found your site today. Excellent job on this Stevie classic. Thanks for the level of detail. Great choice of voicings on the rhythm track.

GREAT CLASSIC ROCK SOUND THAT HAS BE LOST IN TODAY'S MUSIC. FANTASTIC JOB
Glad you liked it! thanks for the comment and i'll be doing a few videos coming up with classic sounds on the helix as free downloads - so stay tuned for those. Many thanks, Ryan
Very nice and clear lesson for a clever song with beautiful chords and melody. Thank you!
Awesome. Thank you glen
Where is the high gain?
Heyyy man! Do you know if there is any way to select the snapshot of a preset to copy it to a different preset?
Hi Ivan, Great question. There is a work around that is quite simple. I'll put together a video this week once I get into filming. Chat soon, Ryan
Great video. I have watched several tutorial videos of this song and yours is the best among all. One thing I want to highlight is that the way you show which strings and fingers are to be played and used is the clearest. Leaves no doubt after watching what shall be done to play it. Thank you
Awesome Thank you very much! I'm glad you got something out of it. Best of luck with your playing.
Terrific demo of a relatively rare pedal. Thank you for the review!
Thanks very much!
@@hpmguitar How do you feel this compares to the later and slightly different 200 lbs of gold pedal? Would you recommend one over the other for Clapton Blues Breaker Beano tones, or both? Thank you again for the terrific production quality! Incredibly helpful!
I got a 50watts amp, want to upgrade, but don't know how many watts can this run properly. Please help! Thank you
If you're looking to upgrade amps I would ask the staff at the store what would best handle it. Thanks
@@hpmguitar thanks
Can you swing us a simple chord progression to try with this technique ? I think these (somewhat) simple mayer techniques fit my skill level well. Let's see tomorrow.. 🌞
I think with these chord techniques - they are best suited to barre chord or smaller moveable chord triads. So, if you have an understanding of those chord shapes you can start to transpose them around to other keys and chord progressions once you get them comfortable in the positions from the video. I see you've signed up for the trial on the fundamentals program which is a great program for learning/solidifying your skills on the guitar to start playing advanced concepts. I'm planning to do an icon series of courses where I break down iconic players styles and techniques. John mayer and Dave Gilmour where two I had in mind - what do you think?
That lesson is right up my alley.. I'll be checking through your vids 👍😎
Awesome! thanks Matt.
Great
Cool Thanks!
I love this part of song ❤
Awesome! Thanks
Saved my ass bro, playing this in a jazz combo
Great! Glad to hear it helped you out. It's a great tune.
Can you change channels or effects during the looping?
Hi there! this question gets asked a lot. A great way to be able to change your effects whilst looping is using snapshots. This involves a little bit of preparation and planning before looping - but once you have it set up you're free to express and play around with ideas. Let me know if you would like any help with this. Best, Ryan
@@hpmguitar Thanks for the info, if i'd need some help i'll reach out.
Is that song written in the key of “off?”
Haha not quite. Even with the swirling guitar fx - it should sit into a key centre. Cheers,
For a while I was like “is this Jack White?” “How long has it been since I’ve seen Jack White”
Awesome thank you!
Can you create a patch that has the looper intograted with a freeze effect and if so where in that vhsin would the looper be best to place? Id like this for practice and also for transition peices between songs live
Hi There, When you freeze effect: do you mean like a kill switch to turn the loop off ? Because if so, you could set up a switch or exp ped on the unit to cut the volume of the loop in between transitions. As for the best position - I'd say starting off with the looper as the last block in the signal chain, would be a good place to start. Please let me know if this was helpful or not - I do like your question and want to make sure you get the answer you're looking for. best, Ryan
I feel if you use less effects in the bank ( no matter on or off) , sound is better for drop tunning, maybe because more memory is free, not sure.... ?
Hey Andy! Well if you have done and you are noticing a difference for the better - then awesome. I can't fault your logic. I hope you're having fun with it and feel free to let me know if you have any question with your guitar playing. Best, Ryan
