BEST jewelry metal cutting video ever!! There are many videos demonstrating a cutting "technique" on CZcams but yours is the first that advises to keep the metal on the right, cutting on the left side of the piece!!...My cutting always create curled, burry, edges about midway through, as I ignorantly scissor my way along the right side of the circle...Hammering this mess out gets me close but is obviously (now) not the correct way to achieve a clean cut. At all. Thank you...thank you...thank you
Muchas gracias por tu contenido
gracias. Dave
where can i buy the pieces to try by myself??
As shown you can make your own jump rings. or there are lots of sellers on line. ebay etsy etc plus the big jewellery suppliers (if you want silver ones). Just remember the aspect ratio... The inside diameter is 3.5 times the wire thickness. Dave
Thank you for the perfect video to my start of making cahin! Ill be practicing to make some wallet chain. I was wondering when you said 18gauge what the inner diameter should be? I really appreciate it!
18g AWG (1mm) so use an inside diameter of 5.5mm this will give a ratio of 5.5 which is perfect. Dave
Hello, I’ve been looking for an alternative torch to my sievert and mini propane versions. Your video was great thanks. One question is where to you get the oxygen tanks and how do you refil them please? 🙏
Here in the UK there is chain of suppliers called "Hobby weld" at various welding suppliers. you buy a cylinder and then just pay for refills (swaps). for the small home studio this is cheaper than paying contracts with big suppliers. There are other companies too that do this. Google your local welding suppliers. They should also be able to fix you up with regulators and flashback arrestors, mine did, all sorted in one shop. Hope this helps. Dave
This is absolutely amazing! Thank you for the tutorial, beautiful bracelet.
Thanks for watching. Dave
River stone - rocks cutting possible ? … and what blade ?
"Rocks" can mean anything, so a very vague question. Different rocks will have different hardnesses. You can get diamond coated discs and drills which will work on small pieces. I sometimes drill polished stones for pendants. Usually placing the stone in a tub of water and keeping the tip of the drill wet. Hope this helps, Dave
Thanks for this info
Thanks for watching. Dave
Your sweater/jumper either has significant sentimental value, never leaves your shop due to frugality, or all of the above. I respect both options equally greatly. Thank you for showing me how beautiful art is made sir.
Good observation. Yes this is my 'work' sweater. The issue comes with using acid pickle, the smallest drop, or splash and the fabric slowly rots. It's a strange phenomenon. Even though the sweater is regularly washed, it continues to rot. It happened before with a cotton work shirt. So beware of pickle. Dave.
Haha! Love it! I use the rubber mat for cutting boards as well. Fantastic tutorial. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching, Dave
Would you normally solder the joints on the jump rings or would this just take way too much time?
With slightly thicker wire, say 1.2mm you don't need to. In my case I have a welder, so will weld all the rings after completion (takes about an hour). This is more for neatness and finish, rather than strength. But I realise not everyone has a welder. It is 'fairly' simple to solder the rings after completion if you wish. Dave
Very 👍
Thanks for watching, Dave
what does the "4000" stand for in the name?
This is actually the 3000 But it's just a model number. I don't believe it refers to anything specific - just a name. Thanks for watching, Dave
Bet PEPE would sell more if they didn't rape people on initial price
Simple and clear video, many thanks just got a Dremel not actually used it yet but watching a few videos for tips etc before I do.

Hi from Canada I always look at the price too I doubt you would get silver for $9.00😊😊😊

I was scanning the comments and one mentioned the birds and the tranquility of your little corner of the world. I hit on your post and saw that baby bird. It looked like a Dunnok. What great timing for you yeah? Guess you answered his question right grandly !!
Dunnok? I'll have to look that up. I just assumed it was a sparrow (or finch). But my knowledge is limited. Thanks for watching, Dave

you sir, are a legend!!

Do you have a recommendation of jump rings that are colored but not like cheap feeling or cheap looking?
Anodised aluminium wire looks good and comes in a range of colours, but is obviously very light weight. "Gold filled" wire with silver can give a nice contrast, without too much cost. Copper works well. And sterling silver can be oxidised, to turn it black for that antique look. You can also make jump rings from twisted wire, for added texture. Dave.
Mine keeps turning out too lose. I don't know why mine keeps looking like it's not going to stay together.
ASPECT RATIO, simple as that. Watch the start of the video again. You have to follow the recipe. A byzantine needs to ideally be 3.5 ratio ie the mandrel you use needs to be 3.5 times the diameter of the wire. If your chain looks too loose, then you are using rings with a bigger aspect ratio. Use a smaller mandrel, or use thicker wire. 3.5 is the magic ratio for a byzantine. Dave.
Yes I plan on soldering all the joints. Do you think I also need a larger wire along with the soldering? Thank you for all your ideas.
It's all about the aspect ratio. Thicker wire means you need bigger rings, to keep the same ratio. I use 1mm wire with 5mm inside diameter, which gives me a 7mm wide chain. Still easy to solder, just turn the joints to the outside edge and use paste solder or pick soldering, you can easily do 4 or 5 at a time. Plus it's fun ! Thanks for watching, Dave
Спасибо что так подробно всё объясняете.Thank you for explaining everything in such detail.
Your welcome. Dave
You're welcome. Dave
Hiya, I bought the dremel 3000 with a flex extension 225, when I attach it and turn it on it doesn't work on the extension end, any help appreciated, new sub x
Difficult to say without seeing it, but there should be an 'inner' shaft which will need to attach to the Dremel and which will ultimately turn the chick at the end. Check that. it is properly engaged with the Dremel. If that makes any sense. Dave.
@@CelticDreamsCoUk Thankyou Dave, will try that 🙂
Can you use 999 fine silver rather than sterling silver? Or is it entirely too soft?
Fine silver does tend to be softer, and in this case I usually only use 1mm wire, so quite thin rings. Perhaps go a little thicker gauge, or consider soldering, or welding. Dave
Thanks so much!!!!!! ❤❤❤
Welcome!! Dave
How to remove this “mirror” effect after polish silver? I made it, it worked for the straches but i prefer Matte look
Scotchbrite pads (or wheels), radial discs, or tumbling with ceramic chips. Dave
I just got my Pepe Tools 160 combination today - I’m so happy I found your video! How often do you oil the rollers and the bushings? Thank you!
Scotchbrite pads, radial discs, silicone wheels, emery paper. or tumbling with ceramic chips. Dave.
I like the video thankyou for showing me.
Glad you enjoyed it. Dave
After months, I finally found it. A tutorial video that easily demonstrates the byzantine chain!!! I have always wanted to add this design to my jewelry making, but every video I have found just didn't click. This one did. Dave, you are a genius! Simple instructions, excellent camera angles, and a cheerful attitude. This combination works. As you stated, once you get the first knot, it's simply rinse and repeat. Now I'm browsing chainmail jump ring suppliers!!
Glad it helped! feel free to buy me Coffee ; ) link in the description. Dave

very informative, thank you
Glad it was helpful! Dave
To tell you the truth I have never seen a sloppier job in my life you're working on a cruddy dirty ring with some new solder great what happens when the next guy works on it all your solder will run off and give him a liability for your mistake reshanking whole thing
Thanks for watching, Dave
Beautiful piece of work Dave! Great to see how you made it. Hope you made another for yourself :)
Thank you, I will. Dave
this method work for gold jewelry?? I got a Dremel just need the little wheel
Yes it does. But obviously with gold you need to be careful to remove as little as possible, start with a clean bench and to keep all your gold dust. Dave
These look like Elipse Professional 7" Straight Jeweller's Snips. I hope so, because that's what I've just ordered 🙂.
Same tool, many brands. Dave
How much would you charge for a job like that?
It's a very popular service. I simply charge a modest fee for labour, per hour, plus return postage at cost.Obviously each job varies, a simple polishing and refurb can be done in an hour. whereas pieces needing extensive repairs and soldering can take all day. Feel free to email if you have a further enquiry. Dave Mail@celticdreams.co.uk
Thank you

You shouldn't use plumbers tape on brass gas fittings.
Indeed - as many others have noted. Dave
What do I need to do this ?
Watch the video, Everything is shown. Dave
Hey i am curious is 5mm the inner diameter or the outer diameter ? Running into this issue when i look online, hoping for a response 🙏🏼
I get asked these questions a lot, so perhaps take a look at a blog I wrote explaining jump ring sizes, and how to buy them. Dave pepetools.com/blogs/news/aspect-ratio-the-magic-number-for-making-perfect-jump-rings-and-chains
Great video, i was wondering what do you do about the small dents/scratches and imperfections left from the pliers on the rings
Great question...The best way to deal with tool marks, is not to put them in to start with. I don't usually get dents from my pliers. Firstly always use smooth jaw pliers, nothing with teeth or grips on them. Secondly it's a good idea to sand and polish the jaws of your pliers to knock of any sharp edges - i do this with two pairs, which are highly polished and smooth. Lastly, it doesn't require a lot of strength to bend thin jump rings like this, so there is no need to grip them with excessive force. My left hand doesn't even really grip the ring, the ring is twisted in the jaws to open it. Go gentle and don't maul about with the metal any more than you need to. This is good tip for silversmithing in general. Thanks, Dave
@@CelticDreamsCoUk cool thanks for the reply👍🏼
Thank you so much much for all of the time and effort that has gone into this fantastic tutorial. I love the finished product too. Well done
