We stayed at our cabin a few days in summer 2023. We watched juvenile bears play in the driveway and go to the neighbor's yard and move up the street. That's when I decided to go outside to do some work and got surprised that a bear (which I thought walked down the street) was right there at our front door. Hilarity ensues. Maybe... I'm not an expert. But we have rats too. They're twice as big as that mouse we released.

Wow I made it to 11:14 & I don’t even want to watch the rest I’m just assuming you basically ended her life by abandoning an animal who’s known nothing but inside & humans.Who tf has a wild animal spend that much time w/humans & does NO preparation for release aka staying away from them not letting them on you & avoiding contact except for food which even then wld have to be done in a way squirrel knows has to look for it ETC!!!! I’m now at a loss for words bc WTF….an example this wld equate to is taking in a dog as newborn then soon as it’s a puppy just saying “BYE! Don’t get hit by a car HEHEHEHE”
I understand your concern. However, she kept coming back for months and clearly survived in the wild. If we ever raise another squirrel (or any animal), we'll be more focused on supporting them when we release to the wild.

Ohhhhh, SO CUTE!!! I loved the video. As an animal lover, I have rescued a few birds & had a few domestic animals as pets including an Angora goat, dogs & a cat. We are glad you could provide the care Peaches needed as a baby, a juvenile & when injured. So pleased she was able to return from the wild as a visitor. God Bless this family 🙏🥰🦘🦘

I have to be honest, claws on a full grown squirrel are pretty sharp and painful. We joked about me getting scratched up too much when she would climb on me when I only wore a t-shirt. I didn't know you could trim a squirrel's nails!
Both of those babies, are beautiful, and I’m so sorry you lost them Both, my husband and I are getting ready to have to release one ourselves and I’ve already started getting attached to the one we have, and named her munchy, because she likes to munch on my fingernails and my fingers, I just pray that when we let her loose nothing bad happens to her, God bless y’all

You never know. If you have squirrels around your house there's always a (very rare) chance you'll find a baby that fell out of a nest. I certainly didn't expect this to happen to us.
Doesn’t she needs a squirrel nest (Drey) in the tree.

She was far too young to be left outside while you vacay'd.. Likely a cat or another squirrel attacked her & you're very lucky she survived.. I've raised many baby squirrels . Even after they leave the nest in the wild , they will return for months . Whats more, mom is still teaching them what to eat & what is "dangerous"...
I agree with you. We tried to leave her with a friend but by then she wouldn't tolerate any humans than us. It was a very difficult decision.
I wish I had better documentation on my 1st red squirrel pup 9 years ago. Was a journey of learning. Am now at 74 doing it again. Both were found on ground in Aug(1st one)& 2nd one in late Sept. At most a week old. Don't know yet why it rains squirrel pups late summer. I use KMR till weaned to solids and on a vacuum water bottle. First pup, a female, released to nest box in the oak tree it fell from. Stayed around for many years. Terrified my dogs, ruled the back yard! This one's a male. Gonna use the same protocol. Started with a 1cc syringe and graduated to 5 then 10cc syringes. I learned not to flood them with formula!! Has been a great experience to be a part of helping them to fully grown "beasties" and get them back to the trees.

why would you let her go is early - most pet squirrel can't make it in the wild unless you had been working with it for a long time for release - it's a death release that you gave her- thank God you were lucky to have gotten her back in to the wild but she may not have made it yet ???????????
