Shoutout ashvile
just love that sound
I must admit, I'm lost in that gearbox.. Big question, why was this crazy gate invented ? and how many gears are there actually ?
Recy mech. REME 1960s, wonderful,go anywhere vehicles, Did hundreds of miles in my time in the mob.
Wish I had room for one in my world.poetry in motion!!!
You made it look so easy, shame I can't remember how to do it now.
Love this lorry, especially the whine of the gears just like the old David Brown tractor.
Go anywhere any time even if EMPS went off, but all the new stuff would go know where ;-)
Nothing like a crash box with straight cut gears . Lovely
I once drove a Guy with a Meadows engine and a gate change gearbox what a nightmare, you had to use every gear wether you wanted to or not because you couldn't skip gears like in a normal gearbox where you can miss a gear if you want to, glad to see the back of that one.
Happy memories of my old 1954 model sadly had to sell her as my business collapsed back in the 90’s 😔 we went to the Great Dorset Steam Fair and one night a convoy of 4 of us all driving In Explorers went to a local pub for steak dinner, we FILLED the car park 😂😂😂 Ive actually seen my old girl has been put on SORN 😡 so Im trying to find her to buy her back! The blokes left her sitting rotting out in a field again, not happy. Took me 2 years to rebuild her 😕 She is somewhere in Wales if anyone sees a very tatty looking one thats her, hes not taken care of her at all😡
The bl**dy air steering on my old Explorer was a git if you hit a pothole it could snap your wrist! She was challenging to drive when we used to go the the Great Dorset with all those hills and that gate box - having to double de clutch every gear and NOT miss one change or end up stalled on the hill!
Very nice. Thank you for sharing.
Recall driving a Scammell Roadmaster 3 in the early '70s. Even then the 'gate' was the size of a dinner plate - !
As far as i know that's just a straight six speed with just one reverse, there are however three neutrals! this is Scammells own box.
I had a Scammel Handyman mk3 with a gate box they were a bugger if you had to change down quickly to avoid getting stuck between gears, DUP800D was the reg, never forget it, eventually blew the gearbox outside Pickfords in Leeds about 1972 ish, Dennis
awesome video. love the old girl. Put a big smile on my face that's for sure
What is the yellow knob close to the driver? Does this truck have hi/lo range? I suppose the front drive is part-time selectable, either hydrolically or mechanically. Please explain.
never seen that carpark so empty. You were so lucky to find a space for the old girl
It appears as if there are at least 3 reverse speeds and 5 or more forward gears. Is there another gear box also? I used to drive a truck that had 4 forward speeds with a 2 ratio rear axle, giving it 8 forward speeds and two in reverse. It was a 1950 Ford, with a huge V-8 engine.
See my reply at the top.
How many gears there is totally, every corner one or how? Was jumping over some gear? Free gear left front or back or how? Some extra gear box too? Is that Scammels own product that gear box?
inbetween each gear is a neutral
Yesd like Joh Deere tarctors same kind of thing, would like to know what is the idea of that. And what then when gear box and joints under stick to gear box get more loose and stick needs more space??????
SFtruckerWolf it's like that because it's old technology from before syncromesh
You mean synchronising or constant mesh gear wheels? If you mean unsynchronising, why eaton fuller dont have thatkind thing where stick moves? Or old ZF 6 gear unsynchronised. Eaton fuller is older tecnic like that. Or you meaning that there is no constant mesh gear box? Last thing what I have heared where no constant mesh gear box is Forsond tractor fom fourties or arly fifties, I have drived professionally 34 years, my young days trucks was older tham me, never seen before on truck that kind of sablon round gear stick. Second why gears on stick are so placed and not like H or U like it was done much after fourties?
Those Scammells are some of the coolest trucks i have ever seen, I have also NEVER seen one in the states, that is to bad!!
Scammell men don't like to share information about their lorries.
Brakes are binding
sounds like a leyland engine
pfft....my grannies morris 1000 could do that...nice truck tho'
Lovely. What's the engine and gearbox? One assumes not the original Meadows by the sound of it and gearbox pattern?
christ...fat finger alert....must read what i type

Ultimate taxi killer...Nice driving too!
More than capable of that and then go on to winch an artic over the pile on its side
Would have been more interesting if it climbed right over! As it looks as if it might be capable of.
What engine does it have?
V8 POWER💪
A pretty nice truck....
I love this....please get someone to film you going all the way up and down the gearbox? She sounds great!
