The quality of this performance rivals that of professional operas and the casting is perfect. The singing is on par with the Opera Australia version!

Musically far too slow in places, but vocally quite sound. Orchestra? Well done!! ... Costumes a bit of a worry, no doubt there's a very good reason for having the men's chorus in American navy style head gear!! Somewhat lacking in choreography for chorus numbers.

I was at this performance, infact I’m in the camera shot with the bad excuse of a balding palate. However I have done this show as a performer, a lighting engineer and a sound engineer. As a performer on three men in more than one boat (bbc). As a lighting engineer under a tutor from the bbc. And as a sound engineer sorting stage and personal mics during a local society performance of the pirates of Penzance at the minack in 1997(I think). If you don’t have the tempo the size of the orchestra or chorus don’t matter a damn.

Beautifully sung, especially the sergent, but only 4 policemen?! General Stanley looks a little lacking in costume too.

I don't at all mind the youth of the cast. I mind very much the director and choreographer. Even sailors in the gay fleet (where discipline has an entirely different meaning) have better sense of decorum than to prance around on deck in this manner. Whosoever shall direct G&S must first read what Gilbert said on the issue. All presentations of art must be true to the original artist's intent. The secret of success in any G&S production - the actors must act and sing as though they seriously believe every word they sing/say.

Some of these comments lack an appreciation that one of England's great qualities is an ability to laugh at itself! To me that's what this operetta is all about.

Harold Abrams was in a G and S production of Pinafore and on the trip to the summer games in Paris he played a piece from Pirates.

The tempo seems too slow to me ....

A nice performance ruined by some places where it wasn't taken seriously. A pride flag, really?

Captain Corcoran has a lovely baritone!

Lovely rendition of my favourite (yet tragically under-appreciated) comic opera. Though the sound quality is not perfect, this is the version I watch every time. In particular, the young man playing the Judge has beautiful manic energy.

The music is spot on, the choreography is lively with creative use of movement and lighting. I find no stand-out singers to mention; Sir Joseph lacks pondus and Buttercup should be less pretty, more a "plump and pleasing person" who was young "many years ago". She's not supposed to be a vamp to eclipse the romantic lead Josephine. I wish the cousins, sisters and aunts had credible Victorian-era costumes. Introducing the anachronistic European Union flags to get a cheap laugh only exposed this production's lack of commitment to the opera's British imperial patriotism. I nevertheless award a thumb up in appreciation that Deadeye Dick was granted an (undeserved) happy ending because he usually gets tossed overboard.

OUTSTANDING 'Fair Moon!! Not often are the top notes hit with such feeling and loved the little trill!! BRAVO!
