I am a mechanical engineer by training, but I like to dabble in all sorts of projects including woodworking, home improvement, sewing backpacking gear, electronics, bikes, and random useless things. These videos offer some documentation of my progress. Hopefully you find them entertaining and informative.

Machining a Honing Jig

I had an itch to machine something, this was the result. I consider myself an experienced amateur when it comes to the use and care of hand tools. Maybe this will lead to more well-maintained tools that I use more. If you have sharpening tips, share them below!

Unloading a pallet WITHOUT a forklift
zhlédnutí 118KPřed 4 lety
I recently got this awesome new table saw, but the heaviest box was much heavier than expected. At the store, they loaded it into my Honda Element with a forklift. At home, I was able to unload it by myself with some tailgate ramps and a big ratchet strap. The whole process felt very safe and controlled, and did not require too much 💪. (Also, it's so cool to use the cargo capacity of the Honda ...

This is the recording of my Flexure Lecture workshop given at Hackaday Superconference 2019. It covers the basics of flexures and compliant mechanisms. Many thanks to the guy who ate a muffin so quietly and produced a surprisingly small amount of noise for the entire recording. - PDF of the slides, as well as design ...
Flexure Gripper and Demo Board
zhlédnutí 326KPřed 4 lety
UPDATE I am considering making the gripper available as a kit for those who want to play with the mechanism, but are less excited about laser cutting it. I would make the gripper from a different material so they would last much longer than laser-cut Delrin. I'm thinking ~$20 a kit, but that could come down a lot with volume. Please comment below if that interests you at all. I made this grippe...

Machining A Round-over Plane (start to finish!)
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 5 lety
I am super excited to finally have my mill all set up in my garage! So I put aside all my other projects to machine this round-over hand plane. I kept it as simple as possible by cutting everything from one solid block of aluminum. It was a really fun way to welcome the mill home, and hopefully, I'll be making use of this plane in the next video. Hope you enjoyed, thanks for watching!

Awesome 🤩
How much of each size wood was purchased to complete this project eg: 2x 12 feet 1/2x3 ect.
Flipping the second switch should advance the day and unflip both switches.
Very cool project and introduction into your design thinking. And vocabulary. Cool new word: flexure. And great street cred for using JB Weld.
Cool channel! Just discovered it today, Aug 8, 2024.
Great video Amy. I have a Honda element and want to fix it to camp out in. Your a genius!
what clever girl. welding, building, woodwork. thinking thru a problem.
Are you like an engineer?! You’re smart!
I have a Honda but I think this would work for me, sometimes solo, and sometimes with my 10 yr old grand daughter. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi, my belt is worn and needs replacement. Do you know how to change or can point me in the proper direction?
Nice work, thanks for sharing your expertise.
SMASHHHHHH
Cute as you are you should have guys lining up...
Bad ass chick. Are you single? Lol
Cool build!! Elements have a lot of usable space !
Absolutely LOVE this and am making one myself to repay the current two box system that I have.
Beautiful work ❤
Please tell me this girl is an engineer...
Can you share this template?
awesome! exactly what i was looking for to figure out how to unload a pallet from my truck
Am I in love? I think I'm in love
You know, if you get into a front-end collision, you could be killed by desk crashing into the back of your head.
That piece you have holding your tablet, where'd you buy it? Great video, thanks for sharing
Very clever 😊👍
What kind of rivets are those ? what are they called ?
where are you!? if youre in socal id pay for you to make the bed for me ;_;
Man I live your creativity and setup on your element thanks from the great ideas. I really like that you constantly think of ways to improve things on your E. The ipad Idea was genius and the dual purpose holder is cool. I think you can possibly make a small business out of it. 👍🏻👍🏻
Real nice. I really like the custom shelf that is really good.
I feel like you'd make a badass astronaut or camp counselor.
❤
Fucked up
What's Amy up to, these days? Too busy with 'real life' tondo videos, hopefully in a good way!
That feeder thing, you could probably make it so that, when both levers are 'flipped', it could advance ghe date wheel
Your definitely a wonderful woman ❤🎉
lol, 5 minutes? Without any talking I go through it in 30 seconds...lol
I love that moon roof tablet holder. I would out a swivel mount so you could watch from the front of the car, or from the rear, perhaps using a camping chair by the tail gate. What an excellent build! Now I will watch the "4 years later" video to see your updates.
Amazing work, very well crafted and built!
EXCELLENT VIDEO I have been wanting to do this for years... and this year should be the year! I have seen many other videos ... but I LOVE yours because for one thing... you have 2 different pull out... SOOOOO Smart. and you took the time to SAND all the wood. Thank you for sharing this great video.
I’m glad you like it 😊 good luck on your build and happy camping!!!
@@AmyMakesStuff Thank YOU Amy
Definitely not the way I would approach this project and I think that's why I like it so much. Good work!
the doggos seat belt setup is..... brilliant and never seen that before!
nice... never sleep with a partner. Get married and never fornicate!
This is great. Thank you.
How tall are you?
5ft 7inch
Great technique using the fence posts! I'll wear boots though just in case 😂 Thanks for posting!
So how do I debox a 75kg cast iron stove 😂
@barryomahony821 carefully!!!
Really nice lamp, would love to buy the design template!
Just discovering & subscribed. Re your storage pockets. Did you design & have patterns? What’s the material used? What anchors your elastic curtain rods? I’m full of questions because I’m excited to find your channel. Shopping now for that slingshot harness anchor for between the seats & the solar panel.
Hi! Welcome!! I didn’t make patterns for the pocket, but I did start by drawing lines on a big piece of paper until the pocket sizes looked good to me. The curtain rods are anchored with little eye screws that screw into the plastic trim (so technically the interior or the car is modified)
Thank you❤
I like the design and the quality of your wood working skill. Great to see😊
Thank you 😊
I agree with some of the other comments -- what beautiful, functional woodwork! Thanks so much for sharing this. It's my favorite build so far, and I've watched a lot of these.
Thank you 😊
