5BX and 6BX AKA Daily Exercises For Use Ashore and Afloat
5BX is a classic fitness program devised by the Royal Canadian Air Force in the 1950s. A version for females called XBX followed later. With print runs in the hundreds of thousands and PDFs freely available online, both routines have their followers today (I'm quite fond of the supposed 'female' version, it is a pretty good stretching and mobility routine).
Less well known, because it was not for public consumption, is "Daily Exercises for Use Ashore and Afloat". Issued to Royal navy PT instructors and those leading PT sessions aboard ship (primarily), this little booklet contains sets of SIX exercises - hence why I've referred to it as 6BX. Available online with new content, this booklet is available here:
www.internalforcefitness.com/product/small-space-daily-exercises-ashore-and-afloat/
If you're looking for purely old school exercises like your grandpappy used to do in the Navy - then this could be the one for you.

Art of Hand Balancing and Tumbling by George F Jowett: Vintage Course
zhlédnutí 668Před 3 lety
Hi everyone, Richie from Internal Force Fitness here with another vintage fitness program from the archives. Today we have another little course that came free to subscribers of the Body Sculpture Club run by George F. Jowett, famed strongman, weightlifter, magazine editor, and author. This course is the Art of Hand Balancing and Tumbling - It may not look much, just 5 sheets of paper - but the...
Thomas Inch Perfect System of Physical Culture using Chest Expanders and Dumbbells
zhlédnutí 920Před 3 lety
Hi everyone, Richie from Internal Force Fitness here. Next in the series of vintage exercise booklets and fitness courses is actually a poster: "Prof Inchs. Perfect system of physical culture for the improvement of health, increase of strength, and development of muscle." Bold claims, but when you’re one of the 20th century's finest physical culturists as Thomas Inch was, I guess you can get aw...

Hi everyone, Richie from Internal Force Fitness here. Next in our series of vintage exercise booklets and fitness courses is this short course that came from George F Jowett's Body Sculpture Club in the 1950s called Commando Offensive-Defensive Tactics simplified. It’s starting to fade with age a little as you can see, but it’s still perfectly legible. Nice little personalised note to say that ...
Scout Stave Exercises for Strength, Dexterity & Agility
zhlédnutí 641Před 3 lety
Scout Stave Exercises consists of twenty-two exercises you can do with a stave, a staff, a broom handle, a mop handle, or (in most cases at least) a towel. By increasing or decreasing the amount of effort you put in you can make this routine as easy or difficult as you like, and it’s a lot of fun! I needed images for the book and it was easier to cut from film (which is why the routine seems a ...

Hi everyone, Richie from Internal Force Fitness here. Today in my flick through of vintage exercise booklets and fitness courses we have one of the most popular - The Daily Dozen by Walter Camp. Most of you have probably heard of the Daily Dozen as a concept - to this day it has become synonymous with a short daily exercise regimen, but it was Walter Camp who actually coined the term. It’s a 12...

Hi everyone, Richie from Internal Force Fitness here with the next in the series of vintage exercise booklets. Today’s booklet is Physical Exercises for Asthma from 1949 approved by the Asthma Research Council. It’s not a very thick booklet, but there is quite a lot in it - it simply doesn’t mess about with pointless chapters like modern fitness books. Like most booklets, it starts with a bit o...

Radio Taiso Routine 1: Exercise 7 - Twist the Body Exercise
zhlédnutí 1,3KPřed 4 lety
The 7th exercise in the Radio Tasio routine is twisting the body. WAIST turning exercises such as this one are excellent for giving the abdominal organs a good massage. More than that however they improve your ability to rotate from the waist, which is beneficial to the spine AND overall mobility. Focus on keeping the spine extended and straight, and just enjoy the rhythm! Although it’s called ...

Radio Taiso Routine 1: Exercise 5 - Trunk Bending

Every exercise routine put together over the last ONE HUNDRED years has had a trunk bend of some sort in it. Why? Because they are STILL the most effective and SIMPLE movements to aid with improving the flexibility of the spine AND to stretch the muscles deep within the waist area. Position 1: Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and your arms down by your sides. Positi...

CHEST exercises are vital for overall well-being in exactly the same way as 'core' exercises. What goes on within our chest cavity is what gives us LIFE! With this exercise what we want to do is RID the chest cavity of any compression caused by the grind of daily life and open it out s...

The final three moves of Walter Cap’s Daily Dozen are true classics. Wave, isn’t pretty to look at (not when I do it anyway), but it’s an excellent exercise for the muscles of the sides and back With your feet together, make the cross, and this time stretch the arms up over the head and interlock the fingers. While you keep looking straight ahead (or slightly up as I do), you’re going to draw a...

Loosening up the shoulders is a part of every good exercise program. A flexible shoulder joint will help prevent neck and shoulder aches and pains. This 3 minute routine done every hour from a sedentary job position or whenever, is a great benefit. Let's say done once waking up, 6 times at the job, and once an hour or 2 before bedtime means 24 minutes of exercise has been done. I actually use most of these movements to include yoga, martial arts excercises and movements and the stuff I learned from US Army PT in recent months, significantly lowered my A1C from 9 down to 7.1 my triglicerides from 900+ to 538.
