Excellent analysis with very insightful commentary. I was troubled by the book's ending which was well illustrated in the video. But I could never quite understand 𝙬𝙝𝙮 the child went through that unhappy fate. The consensus is that the ending was purposely ambiguous. Thus, the reader is to determine for him/herself as to why. If anything this makes the book more haunting.
This aria is so often sung in a starchy concert setting. How invigorating to see it for what it is - a poignant love song in which Jupiter wants to give Semele paradise on earth.

I love how the director of this production decided to show Figaro using his skills as a barber. Figaro was trained as a barber after all, and this is shown in The Barber of Seville. Great callback to the Puccini work, which was written 30 years after Mozar's opera.
