Joel thank you so much for this. I have a unique issue: Due to my phone number being compromised (SIM), I had to quickly get a new phone number / phone and new Apple ID as I was securing my other accounts and changing my phone number for those accounts (since Apple ID's are identified by phone number). I didn't want to use the old Apple ID anymore, which was associated with the compromised phone / phone number - so instead of changing email address and phone number of the old Apple ID, I chose to delete that Apple ID through Apple's Delete process (knowing that I have Time Machine backups for all my photos and files with originals saved on my computer, so I wasn't too concerned about doing this). Also, this recent scare has changed how I will use iCloud. I don't want to give any company such control over my life's photos, esp in the case of a breach or compromise when they ultimately control how the account is recovered. So on my new Apple ID, I will have the system library just for random (non-important) photos and that library can be uploaded to the icloud. Although I want to have my older / larger Photos library from my deleted Apple ID as a second Photos library on my attached external drive that is NOT synced with Apple iCloud. (And going forward, I'm gong back to folders of pics on my computer, not in a Photos library anymore.) I haven't started this process yet, and I admit I'm a bit nervous something might go wrong. My new Mac with my new Apple ID is set up with Sonoma and my old Mac was an earlier version because I delayed updates (which I won't do again). I have heard of many people having problems opening large photo libraries in Sonoma that were previously on older OS versions. Are there any tips you can give before I start this? My goal is to NOT destroy my old photos library in trying to view it in Sonoma for the first time as I have heard happening from others. Thank you in advance!

Easy to follow, nice! I have an old Mac with iMovie 10.1.6 How do you import and save to one clip? I’m importing from an old camcorder and it’s a little choppy and iMovie thinks it’s a separate clip or something and there are like 50 separate clips for a 5 minute movie. thanks!

I guess Apple changed the Apple ID site layout, because mine doesn't show the "Apple ID" box anywhere. You can't change it.

Some strange situation with iCloud. After installing on windows 10 and choosing the location of the iCloud folder on the D:\ drive, all the files just disappeared on that drive. very unpleasant experience of use

What would be better for fixed size Time Machine backups? A partition?

I have a few external drives with time machine backups, I want to populate them all to one single drive so I can mirror it in case of data loss. when I try to take the backups/partitions I get the circle symbol instead of the plus, and I am unable to move them all to one disk. what is a good way to ensure I won't delete the backups and also be able to use them to backup/restore everything? the backups I have the issues with were created when I had two internal drives as a fusion disk.

Is there a way to combine two Apple ID’s into one? I ended up with two because I’m a legacy AOL login user who used to use my AOL sn to log into my account. When they did away with that login method, I could use the AOL email (not the sn itself) for my iTunes and App Store purchases, but I needed a separate email to use iCloud for backups, etc. Ever since then, I’ve been stuck with two separate accounts like I have two separate lives. It makes it difficult when I’m having tech issues - and some tech support people don’t even know what I’m talking about when I explain that I have an AOL login legacy account. I believe I could now use that AOL e-mail as an iCloud login since AOL made some changes in more recent times, but that would mean I’m losing all the data that was saved on the secondary Gmail email I’ve been using for iCloud for years now. And I can do the same in reverse, but then I’ll lose all the Apple Store and iTunes purchases/data from the AOL email. I would love to be able to combine all of the data and purchases from both of these accounts into a single e-mail, whether it’s one of the existing ones I’ve been using for years or a brand new e-mail altogether. Is there a way to do this?

Hi Joel. Just to get things clear..does disabling my Icloud in my Ipad deletes all my photos and videos in the Ipad itself? Or just those who are saved in the Icloud?

This all seems way overly complicated. I just moved my photo library on my SSD and told it to use System Library. Then I made it system photos and it worked without any issues. I did have all the originals downloaded prior to doing this.

I am looking for help... over the last 15 years or so when we first purchased our first Apple product I created an Apple ID. Over the years myself and my wife have purchased new Apple products and they have all been connected to that same Apple ID. This recovery process is only when someone forgets their Apple ID password or can this also be used when someone forgets their iPhone passcode to unlock Face ID? I’m at the 3 hour countdown and can’t remember my new passcode I created to unlock my iPhone. If this recovery process works for device passcodes at what point can I start the recovery process? Okay then, I would like to share a problem I am having in trying to communicate a bunch of photos taken with an iPad to team mates that are all using windows PC's. What I found while taking the pictures on the iPad and you have it opened into a single view of the picture, there is a menu banner at the top. The "I" blue bubble opens a photo information window showing a place for a caption and other physical parameters of the photo. So I thought I was being smart and organized used the caption option on each photo giving it a description. Well I did that 57 photos later, made an album of them. Here is the kicker I tried getting the pictures on to my desk top PC and I lost all the metadata as well as the captions on the Windows 10 PC. I am wanting to pick the brain pools is there a way to keep my captions or am I going to be manual relabeling the imported photos on the Windows PC my team mates are using. Looking for honest answers from the brain pool, be there done that folks. Thank you all for your sharing. JAM.

Joel did not address how to change an Apple ID specific to the App Store. I still have an old, defunct email address that gets associated with every app I download. Apple does insist on making our lives complicated. It's what they do.

I have a question about what happens when you move a photo library to an external hard drive. During that process, do all of the photos in your photo library magically convert into like JPEG files? Or are all of the photos self contained within that photo library (so you’d need a Mac to access the contents of said library). I just recently switched over to Mac from PC (long time windows user) and I’m super confused. I’ve had an iPhone for 8 years and just got a Mac 6 months ago. What I want to do is take all of my pictures from my iPhone and upload to the local hard drive of my Mac. But the photos app complicates that process. On my windows computer I could just plug my phone in and download all the pictures onto my computer. Now, with the Mac, when I tried to do that. All of my pictures just went to the photo app. Which I don’t want. I just want my pictures to be saved locally on my computer or on an external hard drive. I’ve been watching your videos and while they’re very informative I’m still fairly confused

I have two external monitors so I doesn't make sense to use screens when you actually have monitors! Ok, if you only have the mac screen I understand, but otherwise just with a movement of my eyes I can look at other monitors and no need of pads, shortcuts, etc
