A rare sight on the NYC . They did have some 2-6-6-2 mallet design locos albeit smaller than the USRA model here done by Lionel. It's "close enough" for me as it's still rather small for an O scale articulated and runs well and looks fine on my o-60 curves.

    Hello Sir, I'm new to this hobby and I'm not that mechanically inclined. I haven't seen all of your videos on the layout in question by any chance did you do a segment on the fix to the Fastrack turnout switch showing how you used the material to make that piece and then placed it in place. You said in the video that it's only the MTH RailKing cars does that mean every RailKing car weather it's a freight or passenger car? What about Lionel postwar as well as modern cars from '69-current stock? Do they have any effect on the Fastrack turnout switches as well? I'm going to start from the beginning of all your videos to take down some notes from time to time to learn about model railroading. Thank you for your time Sincerely Allan

    • @ricko3242
      @ricko3242 Před měsícem

      @allanmartinez1190 The issue is the pickup rollers on the railking passenger cars snagging in the rail gap in the fastrack turnout. If you watch the video closely, I describe the problem as well as the solution. It depends on the design of the pickup roller assembly as to whether or not there will be a problem. I have some K Line passenger cars that roll fine through the turnouts, as well as several different brands of cabooses that have no problems with the pickup rollers either. Thanks for your interest! If you have any other questions. Don't hesitate to ask.

      Thank you Rick I'll go ahead and check all my cars. Unfortunately I have about 2 dozen RailKing cars. I'll check them out. In the video you talked about using a small piece of foam. I wish you made a video of that piece of foam. Does this piece of foam have a sticky side and do I cut it to the size of I think it is called a frog? If the piece of foam doesn't have a sticky surface what type of adhesive should I add too hold it in place. What exactly did you mean that this is a temporary solution? So how do I make this permanent part to apply it on the turnout? Do you think I should make a turnout test track to make sure it is a isolated case? I'm sorry if I sound like a idiot, but like I said I don't have any experience in making what I think might be a real simple fix. Thank You For Your Time Sincerely Allan

      @ricko3242 Před 6 měsíci

      @shanegonczi202 That particular reefer was a special offering for the TCA 6-52816. I found it on ebay. In recent years Lionel has made a 3 pack of the Vision Line reefers in the same paint scheme. If it matters, I believe the red and blue stripes are a bit narrower on the newer VL 3 pack. Otherwise the cars are basically the same. The VL 3 car set # is 2026980. A quick Google search shows these still in stock at Bradys Trains. There may be other vendors that have then as well I bought that TCA reefer before the white VL reefers were offered.

The scene in this video is a passing siding on the inner part of the layout. My only regret is having a duckunder. It wasn't a big deal 18 years ago when I started, LOL! I can see myself starting over with something more like a folded dogbone. Where I can just walk up to the middle and run trains.

    • @ricko3242
      @ricko3242 Před rokem

      Yes. On one of my videos I discuss using 1/2" pink insulation sheets on top of the benchwork. While technically not a sound deadoner it cut the noise substantially. Ballasting as well as other scenery further quieted my track. If I did it over I' d probably go with the thicker 2" foam, if for no other reasoning you can cut deeper landscape features like riverbeds and ditches etc. Having said that, there are better materials like homasoate and other products designed for soundproofing. I'd see what your local hardware store has. The pink foam was inexpensive and I am pleased with the results.

    Great info Rick. Are you running variable power to the track or the full 18 volts? My power master has Conv/Com switch and when I run my old trains run Conv switch with variable power to the track. I don't know much about MTH but my Hobby shop has a very cool looking MTH CNW MP15 at a good price and I don't want all that MTH DCC stuff to run it. I'm running Legacy CAB-2 with 180w brick off the Lionel blue power master. Thanks.😊

    • @ricko3242
      @ricko3242 Před rokem

      I have the TPC unit set for variable voltage. The TPC unit can be switched to conventional by pushing the M button and L sets it to command voltage via the remote. There's a page in your LPM manual that gives you the keystrokes to access the crewtalk etc. I'm getting the best operation setting the voltage to at least 30% per the instructions for starting voltage. Otherwise there's not enough power to charge the capacitors and start the locomotive.

    • @ricko3242
      @ricko3242 Před rokem

      Thats because MTH never released it for licensing. Lionel on the other hand ,did for TMCC. They figured it would help sell locomotives. Which I imagine was the case. While not "really" command. The Lionel TPC /Legacy powermaster is a big step up from a transformer handle. I think this combination offers more (up to 200) as well as smoother speed steps than a traditional transformer.

    • @ricko3242
      @ricko3242 Před rokem

      Its the number of wires thats got you spooked. Once the I.R. detectors come out of the package and you get things separated its not so bad. Just follow the color coded instructions and the corresponding lettered terminals. I got it all hooked up and working properly on the first try. Just remember to aim the sensors at a 45 degree angle if your using the across the track method like I did. This prevents the gaps between the cars from letting the I.R. beam through stopping the signal operation intermittently,

    Nice overview. I really wanted one but haven't been able to pull the trigger just yet because of the details you mention. The PRR version has black handrails, so I think Lionel just chose to make the NYC version and a few others silver for whatever reason. I think they could have done a better job with the tether and maybe they tried to do too much with the swinging bell, although that's a really nice feature. I'm glad you have yours sorted out and it's working well now. It's a very nice-looking engine. I really like the MTH tooled steam engines and will hold out hope for the next ones like the upcoming L-1 and Decopod engines.
