I bought this a yr ago after my brother used this to jump start my car. I just notice that the multi port charger doesnt work and I think mine doesnt have usb c port
Thanks , just purchased one , Cheers .
Thats great mate! I'm still loving mine. Glad we could help with your choice. Thanks for watching. 🤠
Hey mate, where the sump plug is, you don’t need to do that bolt. The black cable to the right of it comes off by pressimg a button on it and drains out.
Oh really. I'll have a look next time i'm under there.!
Why do they put it in a stupid place 😢
Oh mate. I hate this job. I dread it every service! Thanks for watching
Theres not much weight, weight till your caravan fully loaded then do a video
Ahh I see. Thats a good idea. I'll do another when the renovation is complete :) Thansk for watching and Keep camping 🤠
hey mate great video , just got D4 myself , mine has a dip stick though and can't see anywhere to connect the oil pump to suck oil out , is it maybe cause mine is the base model ?
Hi, so sorry for the late reply, we're on holiday at the moment. If it has a Dip-stick, it's either a different engine (not 2.7, 3.0 TDV6 or SDV6) or it's a Disco 3. I'm not fully across all engines and variants in territories. Best of luck mate
Great video mate just got a d4 and this helps massively so thank you
Thats great mate! It's literally why I made these and i'm so pleased to have helped. Thanks for watching! (Sorry for the late reply, we're away on holiday)
Great video, just convinced me to give it a shot (instead of forking out $1000 for a mechanic), just curious, where did you buy the parts kit from, or did you buy them individually?
Hey mate! Sorry for the late reply. (we've been moving house). Are you in Oz? I got this kit at www.youtube.com/@klrautomotive3772 They're a good LR service house in NSW. This one is a NON OEM pack, but i found the parts really good and comparible to the OGs. klr.com.au/land-rover/discovery/discovery-4/spares-and-parts/filters-and-servicing/service-kit-discovery-4-3-0-tdv6/ Let me know if you need anything else 🤠
@campingbegins No need to apologise mate, I really appreciate the response 👍 I'm in Aus, so I'll check out the link. Thanks again mate.
Thank you...everyone presumes it s easy to assemble..which it is after watching your video...thanks again
Thats a great result ! I always try to make my videos useful. Best of luck and keep camping 🤠
I've got one and it is great! Not so easy to pack away though especially for a shorty like me. Dont forget that tarp for under the tent!
Hahaha ! It's definately NOT a 2 minute 'down' lol. Havr a look a our pack down vid: czcams.com/video/5YXQaeFkG30/video.htmlsi=ZpwpLkhP5tyTrsSz Thanks for watching and keep camping 🤠
Can it free wheel? Like, can you disengage the motor and just push it like a regular jockey wheel? Thanks for vid!!!
Yes. Absolutely. There is a clutch. Have a look at the video where I engage / disengage the wheel clutch.
good job
Many thanks for watching!
That is not safe . If you blow a tire it will rip that plastic box and wood to shreds They are made of hard poly plastic for the reason ..
Hi guys I need advice, I bought DISCOVERY 3 about 6 months ago and it was just packed now I want to use it seems like the brakes have jammed. It start and try to move but looks like the wheel are locked. There's any easy way to make it make move without make any damage that will cost money. PLEASE ADVISE 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Hi, I'm definately NOT a mechanic so might be best to call your local garage. That said, if your D3 has an electronic handbrake (parking brake) it my have seized. I'd start there... Best of luck!
Thanks for the straight talking and easily understood instructions. Going to be doing mine soon with this video to hand 👍
That's lovely news mate! Exactly why I do these videos. Best of luck.
Thank you. I bought one so that I could manouver my van on my own. The manual gives no idea as to how to assemble it for a nonhandy person. I managed to figure out some of it. But you have clarified the rest thank you so much.
Hi Barbara, that's great to hear. I'm so pleased and that's why I make these videos. Good luck with the Caravan and enjoy yourself.
Something I always do is to write on the air filter the date and mileage it was replaced.
Mate, that's a brilliant idea! Keep them coming 😇. I've expanded my service log to a new notebook where I keep all receipts and part numbers I rip off the packaging stapled to the page with the date and mileage (KMs in Australia), like my own record. Old school but nice to have with the vehicle. Thanks again for watching!
Thanks for satisfying another fix for the voyeurs of the renovation. So good to see more progress on this beauty.
Cheers Russ! We really do appreciate the support. In real time (April 2024) we're at the point of heading off on our 1800 Km journey in 2 weeks and she's NEARLY ready to tow! Now has driving lights, legs, reflectors etc. It's a massive job getting an entire household ready to move interstate and adding the Hotrod into the mix has been a challenge to say the least. She's watertight and stable now and we're really looking forward to getting some footage of the trip! Thanks mate 🤠
@@campingbegins So cool. Look forward to seeing the footage. So is that WA or QLD you're heading to? Happy to see you if you stop on the way to QLD. Cheers.
@@campingbegins Oops - can't be WA - much further! LOL!
Looking really great guys.. Great preparation from the underside up. Now the fun stuff begins. xxx
Thanks Sandra! We really appreciate you watching. There more videos to come, just finding time to edit them at the moment. 🤠
Thanks team
You're very welcome friend! Thanks for watching and keep camping! 🏕🤠
Thank you for the wonderful video. I'd like to buy an oil funnel, please.
So nice of you to say. Many thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Just what I needed. Also i enjoyed seeing someone else struggle with it.
🤣No problem! We're glad to have helped. Thanks for watching and keep camping! 🤠
Thank you! You gave me the confidence to do my first job on - what I perceive to be - an incredibly complicated vehicle (D4 SDV6). A calm approach and clear video, including some important tips and experience passed on. Needless to say, a gorilla had over-tightened my water sensor and it had broken, hemorrhaging diesel. Job now done, diesel staying on the inside; thank you again!
@simonpearson8757 That's great news! I know what you mean, everyone thinks vehicles like this are super complicated and expensive. But they are quite modular. I just want to show anyone interested that cars like this can be maintained and have a long life while serviced from home on the driveway. Don't start me on Gorillas. they mostly work in the dealerships! I'm very please you got over the line without hemorrhaging too much money! Thanks very much for the feedback and support, I really appreciate it. Cheers mate 🤠
What’s the tow capacity? I’m looking for something to move around my 1900lb car hauler
Hey there! Thanks for watching 🤠 The manual states: Maximum Capacity 6000lbs. (2722kg) on level ground. (has loads of Torque) I've not seen any other reference to this but where I bought it from does say: Please note: This unit will not suit double axle trailers due to the lack of weight on the jockey wheel for grip. However, i've NOT seen this stated anywhere else, even on the official site. They're now known as ' Mini Mover 3 PLUS '. (upgraded bracket) Official data sheet here: static1.squarespace.com/static/60bfbd0b1720da7008743db3/t/65ba57ea0d88b8638ee1c63c/1706711021660/MM3%2B+Manual+1-31-2024.pdf Cheers mate.
Good day (Oz accent) looks a good oil pump.
G'Day Mate! LOL Yeh, they make the job so much easier and cleaner! Thanks for watching 🤠
I've watched all your videos in one sitting.i really only came across your story because I was looking at reviews of the electric jockey wheel - and got fascinated by what you were doing. It has been a joy to see how you have made all the repairs to this relic of my childhood. (Yes, should have taken the shell off! LOL!! ) Interested if you eventually need to fit updated leaf springs and perhaps add shocks and electric brakes to get roadworthy. So impressed and really looking forward to the rest of your creativity. And then either polishing the aluminium or a cool paint job will just make it glow!! What really impresses me - and which is very rare - is to see a couple both passionate about a renovation and both obviously committed to doing this together with fun and enjoyment. Simply brilliant. Don't stop sharing your story. And when you do get it on the road, please come by in the Blue Mountains to visit us!!
Hello friend! This is the BEST comment we've ever received 🥰 Did your family have something like this caravan? It must have been awesome as a child travelling around on holidays. We don't know much about it and this is our first caravan, but we believe it is a 1965 'Hot Rod' hand made caravan. It's Kirsten's baby really, the kids have flown the coop and we had a CZcams channel already so I thought we should document the restoration. (I cut out the marital 'debates' we have LOL so we appear to be a wholesome family 🤣). Kirsten wants to polish her but i'm hoping for a cool paint job, so let's see who wins that debate... The videos are a month or two behind as we both work full time so doing the restoration work and editing the videos does take a lot of time. We're in the process of moving interstate from Victoria so the main focus is on getting it road worthy, QUICKLY! I'm looking forward to recording some of the trip. Thanks so much for leaving a comment we really do appreciate the support and hopefully will get to the Blue Mountains one day. Being from the UK, we aim to see all of Australia! Keep Camping 🤠, Adam and Kirsten.
So cool. My dad had something similar so good memories to watch yours. I think it is now well and truly in caravan heaven.🤔 As for family, that you do it together - even with 'debates' is a wonderful thing. I'm a bit biased on polishing (love the look of Airstream glistening) - perhaps polish first and see - then paint if not the result wanted - "debate" counselling. 😇 Enjoy the relocation and seeing Oz - there are so many magical places, particularly if you get off the beaten track, although some of those tracks might be a bit of a stretch for "Hot Rod" - have a name for her yet? - must name caravans before setting out, otherwise they get grumpy😂. And of course, being Ozzie, it has to end in "ie" - we shorten everything! 🙄😂 I will enjoy watching you adventures. Cheers, Russ@@campingbegins
What month did you go
Hi, this was recorded in June 2022, the snow came a little early that year!
Nice video thanks, how many miles does it have?
Thanks Terry! We're in Australia so all in Kilometers mate. Just short of 240,000 kms, around 150,000 Miles. Cheers for watching and thanks for the support 🤠
Do you have any issues with oil leak while storage?
Yes. There is definitely some oil leakage while stored, not much but there is some. I keep it stored in a heavy duty plastic bag which helps. I've had a few chainsaws in my time and they have all leaked one way or another. I've seen some videos about 'fixing' with a rubber 'O' ring but this is not where is leaks from. Thanks for watching! 🤠

@@campingbegins thank you very much for your reply. I found it very disappointingfrom a brand like this to have this issue. I had another one with like 60 euros and never had a leak. It is almost not usable for me. I cannot travel with dewalt in my trunk. I have to empty and refill every single time i have to use it... I cannot have even in storage. I sent it to service and they dont even admit that it leaks...
@@campingbegins and it is not from the oring, i agree.
This guy reckons he fixed it on this video but reading the comments is interesting too: czcams.com/video/9Cin-YTflZA/video.htmlsi=Ihzipzh6yA6hy9fK

Amateurs. One person job…. - valves out - quick roll to get 80% of air out - valves in - unroll - tight re-roll - release valves once the “tail” of your second roll is full inflated - finish tight roll and replace valves, mattress will remain compressed until you get the straps on
Correct! We're completely amateurs. Maybe the 'Camping Begins' gave us away? I thought 2 minutes roll up and strap was pretty good. We're always looking for ways to improve our experience. Do you have a video of your method? Feel free to link here to your video: Thanks for watching and Keep Camping! 🤠
Must be an easier way to tow that caravan to the scrap yard.
Oh wow, thanks for the comment! I do think that some days...
garbage do not buy will not work after a while and kings will not cover it
Oh thats a shame! I've had a few people tell me Adventure Kings aren't great at warranty claims. There defintely are more expensive, possibly better units on the market. I do like the product though and not had any issues to date. They have changed the product since recording, it's a slightly different unit now so maybe more reliable? We have one in each of our cars ( LR Disco 4 and Jeep Patriot (lovely wife leaves the lights on very often lol)) These have actually got us out of a few situations to be honest so i'm glad to have them in our cars. I'll update if we have any issues. Thanks for watching mate and keep Camping 🤠
Ah. You made it look so easy! I need to buy me some straps like that. Thanks!
Yes mate, they're a game changer for loads of camping gear. I use them for all sorts of jobs. Thanks for watching and keep Camping! 🤠

Hahahaha i'm not going to tell her that... 🤣Thanks for watching mate!
Nice one. Thanks for doing the video. It is advisable to prime the fuel system by pressing the ignition button (without starting the vehicle) so foot off the brake. You should do this three times. You can hear the fuel system doing its magic. This removes any air trapped in fuel system. When you come to starting the vehicle on the fourth button press you should not experience any splutters or misfires. Also, it is so easy to forget replacing the O-rings and it sometimes makes me wonder how many garages bother to do it? And how many would actually go back and rectify their mistake if they had forgotten to do it? A reason why I do most of my own servicing & maintenance. Cheers for the video, it’s people like you that help us keep our land rovers going without going bankrupt!
Hey, thats great advice thank you! Cheers for the support too, I really appreciate it mate.
Do you have to keep the valve open when packed away and store?
Definitely Valves open for rolling up, then close the once rolled up. I find it still expands even when valves tightened up when stored away. Thanks for watching!
Star of the show Kirst.
She always is! 🤠
The pocket is for forks or spoons
Oh thats genius! Simple but clever. I've literally just got it out and put a spoon in the pocket lol! Thanks for watching mate and keep camping 🤠
Where are you set up in this vid? Looks lovely!
😂
Well done you two. It's looking great.
Thanks Sandra! It's taking longer than we thought but really coming together now.

Did you top up the last bit of oil ? Those filter caps can be over tightened I always use a torque wrench on them. Great vehicles but reliability can be an issue ( ask me I know ) mine is MY2016 on 25,200 miles my front belts to be changed on Friday, think I may leave the rear belt to later.
Hi @blackvulcan100, I didn't top the rest up actually. Just keeping my eye on it closely over the next couple of months. I was late changing this time and was surprised to only extract 4.7ltrs. Probably will have to do a top up at some point. You're right about the FIlter caps but I don't have a torque wrench. I think i'll invest in one soon. Cheers mate and thanks for the support!
A Manchester man in Australia. Thanks. Gooday.
Hahhaha Nearly mate but good guess! We're from Burnley, about 20 miles north of Manchester. Thanks for watching 🤠
nice one mate easy to understand I'm also looking after my discovery 3 same way 👍🏻👍🏻
I love the D3! Thanks for watching Dave 🤠
Yes 5w40 all the time
I'm in Victoria, Australia. What do you think the benefits of 5W40 over 5W30 are for us down here?
It is a bit thicker once up to running temp. It needs to be a bit thicker as the Rod bearings are thinner than normal and the way the crankshaft oils the two outer sets of bearings. You notice a difference in the running note of the engine once started and the rattle goes faster running on 5w40 instead of 5w30.
@@andieconcarnie That's really interesting, my D4 has clocked 235,000KMs (around 146.000 miles) in a sub-tropical environment ( Victoria and NSW) is it an 'age' thing or has the Oil technology changed? Also is there a specific Oil? Like the Castrol says 5W30 'A3/B4', I find the whole engine oil marketplace a minefield. What do you use? Where are you in the world? Sorry that's lots of questions but i'm usually a 'by the book' person. Cheers, and genuinely Thanks for watching mate.
So nice to see a rust free chassis! Every time I get under the D4 over here in the UK I think “how long do you have left?”!! used to live in Oz and the one thing you knew you didn’t have to fight on the car was a rounded, rusty, seized bolt. Still putting 5w30 in my 170,000 miles D4.
@@richardwinder9608 Oh mate, I know, took me a while to realise why the cars over here don't rust like in the UK! We have the sea salt but you soon get used to washing the car off after a swim. What year / spec is your D4? Thanks for watching 🤠👨🔧
Hi, another Land Rover discovery channel called LR Time, recommends using 5W40 synthetic oil instead of land Rover's recommendation of 5W30. The LR Time channel says that 5W30 oil is too thin an oil and offers poor engine protection.
Hi @ahmedzeidan6099, this was exactly what I was referring to in the video. I may consider changing to 5W40 next service! Thanks for watching
Those plastic Hex covers are an absolute nightmare on a Fiat 500
Yeh on such a small car / engine bay, seems an odd design choice to me! Thanks for watching mate.
