The further back the gun the more the tank has to expose itself to shoot and the longer it takes to fire whether from elevation or from a corner, some tried to do front mounted turret like the Char 2Bis or TOG2 but it always result in a ridiculously long tank or a small gun to balance the heavy front

The F35/JSF could have been a 35 million USD 5th gen multirole single engine aircraft without all these issues, and only slightly inferior in air to air to the F22. If only they had ditched the idea to also have it take off vertically or launch from a carrier. All they had to do is hire some MSc students to use aerodynamic software to design an airframe that is both a good performance as an aircraft, and has some stealth. And then make a very reliable cheap aircraft that can give a pilot a lot of flight hours. Instead, they tried to create an overengineered abomination that on paper can do everything, but in reality can't do anything. The US is lucky that allies are still buying the F35, else it would have been more expensive than the F22. With all our simulation software, it is extremely easy to design an aircraft that is maneuverable, is fast, and handles well. With the F35, they failed on two of those. And the stealth doesn't match the profile of a cheap multirole aircraft that US allies can use. Why do they need a plane that can penetrate deep into Chinese radar and then throw two bombs? Doesn't make sense. On a carrier, you need a large wing double engine fighter. WTF are you even considering a modern semi-stealth multirole fighter for a carrier role? Doesn't many any sense. STUPID!
