For researchers, Kersey is known for the bizarre time slip event that happened there to three young army lads on a training exercise in the 1950s.

@@user-mx3jk7qz8n Basically the three cadets were on a training exercise and directed to go through Kersey village. It was a chilly morning and as they approached the village they could see smoke rising from chimneys and hear the church bell ringing. But after passing through some trees and entering it things changed. There were no church bells ringing and no chimney smoke. It was now quite warm. They relaxed at the stream that flowed through the village. There was no sign of the church, which should have dominated the view from that position. The ducks in the pond seemed to behave oddly. Two of the lads were country boys and knew something was wrong. The third was a London lad. They looked into a small butchers window and saw a rotting carcase. All the houses seemed empty. They felt anxious and decided to leave by a different route, breaking into a run. After they passed out of the village they looked back. It was again cold and chilly, the church bell was ringing and the chimneys smoking. Years later the investigator Andrew MacKenzie managed to track the witnesses down. The two country boys recalled the event very clearly. MacKenzie confirmed that the building near the pond had indeed been a butchers in the past (it was now a private house). I have both investigated and experienced time slips myself and I played a part in a debate on Forteana a few years ago: forums.forteana.org/index.php?threads/why-the-case-of-kersey-village-was-an-impressive-time-slip-suffolk-1

@@user-mx3jk7qz8n Basically the three lads had been told how to get to the village. When they neared it the church bells were ringing and chimneys were smoking. However, after reaching the centre of town, where a village pond was, the sounds stopped, there was no sign of the church, chimneys no longer smoked. It had been cold, now it had become warm. They examined a butchers shop, empty except for a rotting carcase. They looked in windows and saw old fashioned furniture and no people. Getting anxious they left in a run, and when they looked back it was now chilly, the bells were ringing and smoke came from the chimneys. Years later when a researcher made contact with them, one was able to show him around and pointed out the old butchers shop, now a private house. The owner confirmed that years ago, it had indeed been a butchers.
