Every line Wellington utters is nuanced entirely differently! Irony, impatience, wrath etc. Even the look on his eyes changes every other second! Brilliance!!
OH LOOK! This clip is back on my suggestions. Watching again. Lost count how many times I have watched it. Its still a fantastic moment. That "Good Morning" so much in two words.
I've been listening to the Sharpe series of audiobooks recently. I was waiting for this scene to come up as soon as I heard Gibbons' name. I'm not sure whether I prefer the way it's played out here, or in the book. But both are epic.
The best acting is when they say nothing.....Colonel Lawford and Major Hogan exchanging glances, Captain Leroy looking at the ground when Simmerson keeps talking....the Irish sergeant not saying anything and refusing to stand and salute when Simmerson comes out of the office.
This was when England was 100% white and had civilised half the backward countries into the art of sanitising your hands after wiping your arse so as to stop the diseases that are killing half of your countries population. And of course the nasty, horrible UK managed to invent steam power and bring the whole world into the modern age. And yet we are always the bad guys. Good job the UK is an island because we have good clean water between us and the rest of the scumbag world.
The British Empire is the reason the whole world has prospered and moved forward to being a better place to live than it was 100 years ago. And as a proud Englishman I make no apologies. You Mr Black man stuck in slavery can thank the Royal Navy for freeing you from your chains. It was the Royal Navy and Britain who destroyed the slave trade. Bet you never heard that taught in school.
You have to admire Simmerson; No matter how badly he mess things up he ALWAYS comes back, ready to mess up badly again... Might be a cockroach, but still...
Thank you . Your comment really gave me reason to laugh out loud on this wet, rainy Lancashire afternoon. Sean Bean is brilliant in everything he does. Trouble is he always gets killed.
@@rickogden204 You're welcome! Poor Sean Bean, his family must have panicked when they saw... "it" happening. THEIR Sean... NOT DIE?! ..on screen?! Perhaps they even had to cover their eyes while being reassured by people that they SURELY would get confirmation that Sean SURELY would die... any second now😂
"He says you lost 10 men, a Major and two Sergeants...." I feel like it's an understated humanising moment for Arthur that he seems quietly outraged by the unnecessary loss of life caused by Simmerson in an era when losing such low ranking personnel would be considered irrelevant.
I've watched this clip many, many times, it never gets old. It's the best bollocking scene ever, no matter what the media. The best acting I have ever seen on TV.
I can not say how many times that I watched this. 0:32) I was with the US Army's Staff Judge(S-1). The first time hearing "The South Essex acquitted itself et cet" had me wondering what were the charges and specifications. 2:09)"Maj. Lennox answered.." was delivered like he was a friend of the major. 6:00)A great scene ending. "That's what you pay me for, sir."

4:13 ohmaylawd in Heaven 007?! 007 and 009 have served together even before Goldeneye?! 😂😂😂
Some serious acting talent in this scene

The way he deliver's the line ''Major Hogan's coat buttons up tight over a number of other duties, Sir Henry.'' Is masterful
Love the contrast between "I wish I can have you shot" with Simmerson, and "PLEASE dont make me have you shot" With Sharpe.
Fanciest way of saying "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" 😂😂
The best scene in the whole series!
I own pieces of the Sharpe series. Great stuff.
The actor playing the villain was a great actor.
Is this the best Sharpe movie? I think so. Also anyone else notice Daniel Craig is Lt Gibbons.

That very, very slightly longer-than-is-necessary-pause to Wellington's writing as Simmerson accuses Major Lennox of panicking...
If you watch the full series of sharpe...being a "proper bastard"...is one of the greatest honours you can give an English man...lol
To all the people wondering, he's sniffing powdered snuff
scritchscritchscritchscritch....scritch
He panicked.....scritchscritchscritch
This clip lives rent free in my head. The delivery of Wellington's chastisement ("MAJOR LENNOX ANSWERED WITH HIS LIFE!!!") is _perfect._
It's a favourite acting moment of mine
When you know somebody is bullshit, but you let them talk just so can humiliate them worse as you expose them.
The old cow is so demanding while speaking to Duke of Wellington..
Note the way that Hogan winks at Lawford before telling Wellington he's never heard his anecdote.
Smart Simmerson threatening the supreme Comander of the British forces, the fact that he survived the war is a miracle
02:03 The rampant anger when sir Wesley insists and the word "colours".
The best acting is when they say nothing.....Colonel Lawford and Major Hogan exchanging glances, Captain Leroy looking at the ground when Simmerson keeps talking....the Irish sergeant not saying anything and refusing to stand and salute when Simmerson comes out of the office.
Is Simmerson the one clearing his throat? To get Wellesley's attention? That kind of confuses me.
It's a mhmhm. Filling awkward silence. He screwed up. Trying to divert attention and such.
Brilliant acting
Is that old nosey?
What Wellington neglected to add was that "The Prince Of Wales is a Sharpe Fanboy"
Never trust anyone from South Essex let alone a regiment, these days a bunch of knobs from Basildon ain’t going to scare nobody

"I have friends at Court." "Dude. I was part of the King's Privy Council before the war, I don't think you wanna go there."
2:18 You shrunk us sir You sunk the buildings sir !
I really love when this video pops up in my recommended
In my humble opinion, this scene is the very best in all of cinema and TV.
This may have been in the time when Englishmen still had balls.

Because Capten Sharpnwas wearing a green uniform they were thinking that was Irish the redcoats 😂😂😂

Hogan just casually taking bumps during this makes me laugh
It's snuff, not cocaine.
What movie or show is this? Looks really good
Sharpe

0:17 Watch his eyes.
Being a coward and lying about it , that's my style sir
Every actor in this scene deserves recognition...brilliant
One of the best bits, David Troughton was amazing in the role.
When he says “Good Morning”, he’s actually saying “Now get the fuck out of my office.”
Exactly
I love watching this, again and again, again.
In simmersons defence, it is pretty stupid carrying a flag which if lost completely demoralizes the entire military.
I've watched this clip many, many times, it never gets old. It's the best bollocking scene ever, no matter what the media. The best acting I have ever seen on TV.
nothing hits quite like the white on white violence you can only get from centuries of inbreeding and unwarranted self-importance. cheers!
"You've disgraced us, sir! You've shamed us, sir!" must use that on the children.....🤣
