Brainwashing experts. Got passengers convinced they are responsible for crew compensation. Have passengers tipping more than once and shaming other passengers to do the same. And convinced passengers to give their money to the cruise line rather than directly in cash to the people who provide the amazing service as they used to. And they have passengers convinced that it all makes sense.

Travel around actual countries and deal with the locals in places other than a cruise ship. In America many have bad service, bad attitudes and EXPECT a good tip for showing up and breathing. I go to the Philippines and the taxi driver or food delivery driver is shocked and thankful when i give them a tip. Many times they even try to give it back to me. This is how tips are supposed to work, You have a good attitude and good service you get a good to great tip! Bad attitude and bad service, little to no tip. It is a case by case basis. Entitlement attitudes suck

I have paid in past crew appreciation up front but always wonder who gets it in the end. Princess cruise gives me the option to pay for myself and spouse crew appreciation. Am I able to prepay for myself and not pay for my spouse? My thinking is, I can give my stewart and whomever cash tips on our cruise.

As an English Guy I fail to see why you have to pay gratuity to anyone. It is not the job of the customer to subsidise the staffs wages, THAT is the EMPLOYERS responsibility END OF STORY. If you can not OR will not pay a livable wage you should not be in the Trade. Or are we BRITTISH just happy with our Minimum wage structure in the UK set by the Govt. UK Bar staff are paid £15 per hour with a mandated MINIMUM 4 week PAID VACATION TIME PER YEAR, PLUS National Days OFF WORK which would be equiverlent it USA State Days off. If you let your Employers set the wage limit they will reduce it to the State Minimum.

Look, TECHNICALLY speaking the gratuities go to the crew. TECHNICALLY. What that means is the cruise line can then pay them less salary, keep more money, and the crew makes the same whether you tip or not.

can i use onboard credit for the gratuities? if so do i need to ask guest services or will they automatically use onboard credit for it

Exactly.. and ty for the info ! I’m concerned because I had no idea when I decided to go on my 1st cruise to vacation and make memories with my family. I applied for a credit card just to pay for this cruise and now .. omgoodness.. I maybe made an expensive mistake and will be paying for this cruise for a very long time .. Don’t get me wrong .. I feel gratuity is 100% important and used to rely on tips ! All in all I am still looking forward to it👍
