7 Day Decluttering Challenge - Decluttering Collaboration
I'd hit a wall with the decluttering in our home and felt it needed a bit of a kick start. So I've joined forces with 2 other vloggers for a decluttering challenge to help get me back on track again.
This video is a collaboration with Mrs Morrison and Mummy in the Middle. We all decided to undertake a 7 day decluttering challenge to try and remove 5 items a day for 7 days for our home, and here is how it went.

    Hi there. Love your channel. I'm a single mom of an 11 year old girl. I plan to rent soon but knowing I'm a single mom I'll be doing it all on my own including paying an after school daycare/groceries/bills/rent etc so I can't afford new items. Is it safe for me to purchase major appliances like stove, refrigerator, washer second hand? Please advise.

      In the UK you need a TV license to watch anything produced by the BBC network or their catch up channels. Pretty much anyone that has a TV with an aerial, satellite or freeview box has to pay a BBC TV license. Its around £150 a year I think??

    On the subject of walking, I moved across the States in January for a new job. I chose a city in which I could have a pedestrian lifestyle and with excellent public transportation. Our transportation costs dropped dramatically. We were spending approximately $200USD/month on fuel. Now with mostly walking, we spend less than $30USD/month on metro. Not to mention we are ridding ourselves of all the other costs of owning vehicles.

  • @1588chrissy
    @1588chrissy Před 6 lety

    Thank you! Exactly, its not about getting rid of things just to get rid of it! I keep seeing people throwing away half used things and wonder, why not just take a month to use it up? Its paid for so use it! I have hair stuff, makeup etc that I don’t like but believe you need to use them up instead of wasting them. Just because I have many pairs of jeans, I don’t have to get of any that I like and wear, frankly wearing five different pairs over a few weeks also means less wear and tear and that they actually last longer. It does mean I don’t need to buy more and that is the important part. The 30 day challenge of getting rid of items everyday seems to be just for the sake of getting rid rather than properly using the item someone has. If its no longer wanted or needed, then yes, but not just because you need to find 29 items to remove.

      Oh decluttering before a move is the most important and also the easiest I feel as you have to physically move and pack every item, and your usually on a time constraint so you can discard as you pack and only have to pack and move what is really wanted and needed! Good luck!!

It’s everything you described and more. I’m more of a cozy minimalist if that makes sense. Glad that it helped you, I think minimalism is a long journey for lots of us, we simply don't have the time or attention span to do everything quickly and I feel we often need to adjust to changes in our home and our attachment to belongings. The more your let go of though the easier it becomes

      Sadly there isn't an option for attic space, we could potentially add a double story extension off the back, but due to the way our house is constricted it would cost a fortune as the entire house foundations would have to be underpinned!

    I buy my books on Kindle, usually. I do want to eventually get a physical Harry Potter boxed set (maybe secondhand, since J.K. Rowling is pretty much set for life). It's important to remember to support our authors, even if we only pay for the ebook. Ebooks have a much lower environmental footprint and they don't add to clutter in the same way that physical books do. The downside is that it's much harder to share them with others. But I do stand by my decision to buy ebooks around 50% of the time and use the library for very popular books, comic books, magazines, and certain kinds of reference books. I do have a few language textbooks, "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves", my Nausicaa boxed set, and a few other favourites on my bookshelf.

    • @LifeSorted
      @LifeSorted Před 6 lety

      I like physical books! Don't like e-books really so have never bought an e-reader. But I think it is great to help support authors. I usually just get my books second hand unless it is something I really want, but am now back using the library again which is great cost effective and space saving
