Truimph Scrambler - Fuel Filter Replacement

So in an attempt to figure out why my engine sputters in 5th gear, highway speeds, I decided to replace the fuel filter as part of the 12K tuneup. I ve since added some SEAFOAM into the gas in hopes it would help clean the fuel injectors and carbon etc, and it has, but there is still some lag now after 50 miles after this vid.
Triumph Scrambler - AI Solenoid to Resistor Install

FINALLY! Here I am removing the now, pinging loudly, air injection solenoid from the bike, and replacing it with a resistor bought from Bella Corse, www.bellacorse.com, a plug and play resistor. I ve read a lot of the threads on the interwebs and I think many of us are experiencing this loud ticking sound. I have rode about 30 miles with this new resistor installed and so far no more ticking! L...

    Have you cleaned the fuel injectors? Mine sat for the last 5 months (On a battery tender). The throttle on the handlebars felt sticky when I went to start it. It would not start. The fuel pump made its noise, the choke (idle adjustment button) pulls out but would not start up. Like it was not getting air or fuel. I changed the battery, the spark plugs, and the fuel filter. Plus I cleaned out the inside of thugs tank which did have debris in there. Still won't "start". Thinking about cleaning the fuel injectors next. Maybe they got gummed up while sitting. Curious if you tried that at all?

    Wondering why you left the residual fuel in the tank after showing the little bits of dirt in it? Could your problem be water contamination in the fuel system? Would still be there after this video procedure b/c you didn't completely flush out the tank or the fuel pump.

    • @sweetntenderhooligan
      @sweetntenderhooligan Před 4 lety

      There was no residual gas in the tank. You have to completely empty before doing a task like that. Otherwise you risk fire etc.

      @@sweetntenderhooligan did you eventually solve the problem? My 2013 Bonneville has similar misfire feel from 3-4k rpm. Done all kinds of tests and adjustments, new plugs, cables, coil etc. No improvement. I just did fuel filter as I suspected water contamination. Will test ride today.

    • @TornadoCAN99
      @TornadoCAN99 Před 2 lety

      @@PercyJackson93 My T100 2013 Bonneville has a very slight dip in power most noticeable when holding power steady, cruising along...esp on a smooth road. Happens all speeds, all rpm, any gear. Not present if I pull clutch in and coast or shut off motor and coast down a slope, so not a wheel or something in the drive train. I suspected air leaks as most likely cause (as I would in your case). Try pulling back/forth on the "carb" bodies while idling to see if there is a change in rpm....indicates a cracked/loose throttle body boot air leak. Also try spraying the joint surfaces of throttle to boot/boot to engine intake ports with WD40 or carb-cleaner while idling and at higher throttle....any sudden rpm dip or gain indicates a leak there .Also spray around the 3mm vacuum lines coming off the tops of the intake manifold up to the MAP sensors...these are known to be leak points and should be replaced as precaution. Have you checked throttle balance as this is also something that can change and need tweaking. Of course do the standard air filter change/cleaning, spark plugs cleaned/gapped and spark plug cable condition. All electricals to the ignition coils also good to clean/tighten. Other know issues on these bikes, there is a large crimped electrical fitting buried near the steering head tube, wrapped in black plastic tape, that gets stressed from turning the front wheel, can break the connection at odd times leading to engine misfire or even shut downs. Have you checked for computer warning codes?

I was very surprised by the sound that was being muted and I never felt so excited to ride my Scrambler again. My only concern is would removing the baffle effect the exhaust later in time? It looks like a of dirt and sand might get in there.
