    I need to order "His Girl Friday".. I've been on a Howard Hawks run, lately. The Big Lebowski and Pulp Fiction are way up on the big list for me ! I re watched "The Verdict" not long ago.. Excellent and Stand By Me really resonated with me and still does about being 12 yrs. old growing up in the woods at Lake Tahoe.

      Howard Hawks was great with several screwball comedies. I think The Verdict has Newman's best performance. I'm glad that The Big Lebowski and Pulp Fiction are way up on your list. They are always fun to watch.

    Good Evening Brian and Rich. I enjoyed your video. I have not seen the documentary yet but will check it out soon. I don't watch too many of these types of films BUT I am familiar with two of the ones mentioned. The Outsiders and The Breakfast Club. I enjoyed both of these films each in their own way and have watched them on more than one occasion over the years. Time for me to reflect this coming week on my favourite films from 1999.... Have a great weekend.

    1. Pretty in pink 2. St elmos fire 3. Breakfast club 4. Weird science- finally watched a couple years ago and loved it. 5. Johnny be good. The documentary was entertaining enough but I don't know why Mccarthy is still dwelling on the brat pack. The article wasn't about him. I like Rob lowe. He looked at the time as a positive.

    I'm pretty sure that I saw all the movies you picked at the cinema except Less Than Zero and I'm not sure if I have seen that one at all. I just saw someone say that it had an interesting soundtrack on a CZcams video (Brian ?). I almost picked up 16 Candles at the thrift store today but left it. I would have guessed that Molly Ringwald would have become the biggest star as well.

    • @RichStrickler
      @RichStrickler Před 4 dny

      Less Than Zero is worth checking out. It seems an accurate portrait of wealthy kids excessive behavior in the 80s. Robert Downey Jr brought his own baggage to that role. James Spader plays an entitled, snobby a-hole. Jami Gertz was pretty good eye candy. A guilty pleasure for me

  • @mutant_blues
    @mutant_blues Před 4 dny

    A surprise video! These movies were not that popular in my country at the time mainly because the vast majority of them were released straight to video. Entertaining American cinema for us was Gremlins, Elm Street or Roger Rabbit... At the time I had seen all of these (and many more) films but I haven't seen any of them in decades. "Weird Science" is now a guilty pleasure (or just a pleasure watching Kelly LeBrock), ""Ferris Bueller" is by far the most legendary youth film because it demystified basic Western values while "Tuff Turf" has since had my sympathy because it was probably the black sheep of the Brat Pack era.

    • @RichStrickler
      @RichStrickler Před 4 dny

      Kelly LeBrock in her heyday was a wet dream waiting to happen. Sorry for the explicit nature of the image, but she was the total package. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    1. About last night 2. Breakfast Club 3. Sixteen candles 4. The outsiders 5. Saint Elmo's fire the new Brats docu. It was okay but it wasn't fantastic Still watch a lot of your videos sometimes I don't comment on many. Lik many CZcams channels I'm still a silent supporter

  • @mutant_blues
    @mutant_blues Před 6 dny

    Once again 4 lists full of favorite movies! Perhaps the most famous conspiracy film, a strong political thriller, "All the President's Men"...America, if only for a moment, will believe that something is changing..."Do the Right Thing" is perhaps the most important film of the ' 80s (I've praised this film several times on Rich's channel) The brilliant "Oz"...have you ever seen "Return to Oz"? It's not a bad movie, but it has to hold the record for the most "late" sequel in movie history, 46(!!!) years after the original!!! And for the ending, sorry guys but, the only positive thing I have to say about The Dark Knight is that it's not worse than Dark Knight Rises...This film came to re-appreciate Tim Burton's corrosive gothic atmosphere and intense comic mood. So I ask (as the title of one of Brian's series says) "Was this film really that good?"

    • @masseysmaineentertainment
      @masseysmaineentertainment Před 6 dny

      I guess semantically speaking - as a film - it is certainly a 8.25 at least out of 10. For a movie - which there is a difference - its a near 9.5 as the rewatchability is extremely high. Nolan puts his stamp on the franchise in his own way. Still - we can't all agree - or it would be no fun....lol.

    • @mutant_blues
      @mutant_blues Před 6 dny

      @@masseysmaineentertainmentI realize that DK has cemented its place in film history but we are supposed to be talking about a "Superhero" film...If Batman was missing from the film, we would just have an (almost) realistic drama, a conventional and completely "unfunny" neo-noir...The Dark Knight is the only film in the trilogy where Batman is a cold and almost impenetrable being who is simply present in the dense plot of the film...And I love "Batman Begins", which admittedly "resurrected" a series that seemed doomed...

    1995 was a year in which I was firmly entrenched in Americana which is partly reflected in my picks although the two from Uncle Tupelo, Wilco and Son Volt, barely missed out. Jagged Little Pill was on my list and would be an honorable mention. The Bends is probably my favorite Radiohead album. I haven't been to a record store lately but Collective Soul has been on my radar Doc. I do know most of the albums you picked but have not heard of Leftfield. Looks like I only have one match. Great series. 1. Forever Blue-Chris Isaak 2. The Ghost Of Tom Joad-Bruce Springsteen 3. The Presidents of the United States-The Presidents of the United States 4. The Honeymoon Is Over-The Cruel Sea 5. Dirt Track Date-Southern Culture On The Skids 6. Traveling Through-Dick Curless 7. Sparkle And Fade-Everclear 8. Buffalo Return To The Plains-Jimmy LaFave 9. Days Like This-Van Morrison 10. (What's The Story) Morning Glory?-Oasis

  • @AllMediaReviewsPodcast

    Pretty good year. I just made my 1995 AOTY video a few weeks ago as well (which included about 40 albums/eps). I had Jagged Little Pill, Pulse and Balance on my list as well (although a fair amount lower, but they're still good records). Here's my Top 10 1. Kevin Gilbert - Thud 2. Marillion - Afraid of Sunlight 3. Spock's Beard - The Light 4. The Tea Party - The Edges of Twilight 5. Echolyn - As the World 6. Savatage - Dead Winter Dead 7. Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons [EP] 8. Saigon Kick - Devil in the Details 9. Shadow Gallery - Carved in Stone 10. Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways

    We're approaching your most favorite movies and I'm excited to see among them movies I've loved for decades! City Lights. Chaplin resisted the advent of talking cinema for several years and his decision raised films like this to unimaginable heights of greatness! The final scene moves me no matter how many times I've seen it. The first time I saw Tim Burton's "Apes" I was like: "My God, what a mediocre movie! Imagine if the amazing original had these make-up effects! Back to the Future. Pure cinematic entertainment without any Marvel or DC logo...Many say the sequel is a better movie but the first is the one I really love! My favorite of them all (a top15 movie) is "Dog Day Afternoon". Probably Pacino's best performance. Definitely his most "human"! I have read that the "Remember Attica!" scene was not in the script, it was an improvisational delirium by Pacino! The American cinema of the '70's was so "daring"!!! Looking forward to the next episodes, guys!

    Several films here too that I would personally rank much higher such as "Full Metal Jacket", for me Kubrick's finest hour, with strong anti-war messages, as few films have! "The Truman Show" is a top15 film. I would dare to say one of the most important films of the last 30 years! The Australian humanist, always lyrical and seductive turns a human cartoon into a deeply sensitive and dreamy man! It is assumed that Truman is the prisoner (not for long) but those who watch him (throughout the duration of the film they are motionless in front of the TV) are the ones condemned to stay where they are! Who would have expected almost 25 years ago that Carrey would star in a masterpiece! I love "Frankenstein" Randy, I don't know if you have "The Bride" later on your list, but I think it's an even better movie! And along with "Terminator 2" I consider them to be among the best sequels in the history of cinema! We're off for the top50, gentlemen!!!

      Truman Show is truly underrated and I think time will be kinder to both it and Jim Carrey

      Thanks for bringing up "Frankenstein" and there indeed may be another Universal horror film in a future video. Peter Weir is a favorite director of mine and it has been hard to leave off some of his films including "The Truman Show" which I think is fantastic. I always enjoy seeing your thoughts on our picks and ones we may have left off.

    We're getting into some cream of the crop movies from here on out. As they say, the best is yet to come.

    Great episode guys. King Kong would make my list for sure Randy. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a great pick. I love the MASH series but have never seen the film, though it's on my list. Great one boys.

    I like seeing some of my favorite 1990’s movies like Forrest Gump, Jurassic Park, Groundhogs Day and The Fugitive.

    Good Afternoon All. Another enjoyable video. 16 movies that I enjoy were mentioned, including 'Snowpiercer'. The series I also enjoyed. Very original concept. I see that Rich has still not been admitted to the leather seating in the theatre.... Have a great day.

    Despite the long run time, this was another great episode to be part of. Always fun anticipating the other guys revealing their favorites each week. As we approach the halfway mark of our series, the upper half of the list should be fantastic as we count it down to the top. Great job of editing, as always, Brian.

    Lots of favorite movies from all four of you! The timeless "The Day the Earth Stood Still" has been reminding us for decades that we must pay for our ecological sins. I love Herrmann's "spooky" soundtrack! (avoid the 2008 remake!!!) "Wanda" is probably the best comedy of the '80s, an extremely well written screenplay by Cleese! With a serious contender for the anarchist "Blues Brothers" (have you ever seen 100 patrol cars destroyed in a movie?). "Good, Bad and Ugly", the most entertaining western of all time, almost 3 hours and not a second to spare. "Groundhog Day" is Ramis finest hour! It starts as a nightmare, it ends as a life lesson... See you in #60-#51

    I guess I will be the first to comment - I know this video was a little longer, but hopefully everyone sticks with our countdown - its well worth it. Leave me your top movies as we move along as well .... like, sub or comment or even dislike and retort why we stink....its all good.
