Mother on the Farm
zhlédnutí 383Před 19 hodinami
My mom has come to check out the homestead for the first time, so I have time off to spend with her and get projects done. It's more than moving dirt, I promise!
Garden Therapy

I get to move on to the next stage of the garden on the homestead, but circumstances are conspiring against me...
Cardboard, Mulch, Repeat
zhlédnutí 242Před 14 dny
The homestead continues to get ready for a late spring. Now that the paths are dug. It's time to get them mulched for weed suppressions to help define the planting beds. That big pile of wood chips finally comes into its own!
The Bees Chose Violence
zhlédnutí 166Před 14 dny
I got the bees to the homestead, but it was not smooth sailing. But I did score a bunch of new plants, so that's good! Oh wait, I still don't have anywhere to put them...
Final Prep for Bee Day
zhlédnutí 65Před 14 dny
Here on the homestead, I'm getting ready for the arrival of my bees (finally!) Getting the hive set up and protected as well as, you guessed it, more work on the garden!
Tell it to the Trees
zhlédnutí 80Před 21 dnem
A couple of days on the homestead focused on more dirt moving and trees, both old and new.
Getting Down to Bees-ness
zhlédnutí 187Před 21 dnem
Back on the homestead, it's time to get ready for the bees coming this weekend and start getting the garden set up for the season. So much to do!
It's Festival Time!
zhlédnutí 77Před 21 dnem
I left the homestead for a few days to attend the Southern Adirondack Homesteading Festival. It was an amazing weekend of learning, community building, and bees! Come check it out!

All in One Day
zhlédnutí 82Před měsícem
So many things happened on the homestead in one day. A working day at that! But it's all good progress as spring becomes a reality.
So happy for you to have all this come together. Your new greenhouse is fantastic 🙂
Thanks so much! 😊 I knew it was coming but not when. It was Christmas!
You have a shed guy AND a mulch guy?
I do! I also have a furniture guy! I haven't been this hooked up my whole life!
Love the greenhouse and it looks great in the garden, I am so excited for you. The garden's really coming together now and well done. 🙃😉😊
Thanks so much! It's almost done! Then I can start on the million other projects I have to do...
Good on you to keep trying that lawn mower.. I would have tossed that thing across the yard <3
It was seriously tempting!
Very lovely greenhouse shed. I am envious! Really great.
Thank you very much! It was a splurge, but I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of it
Enjoy your mom! Safe travels!
Thank you! Will do!
Great job on getting things accomplished. So nice to have your mother help out some. You can tell she's a natural and has gardening experience for sure. Great memories for you both. Safe travels and enjoy your time away 🙂
I come from multiple generations of farmers/gardeners. I'm grateful to still have her around to consult!
I hope your plants do well while you're gone and enjoy the trip. 🌱🌱🌱
The asparagus and strawberries actually did very well!
Beautiful looking hive 🙂
Thanks! They're still a bit grumpy, but hopefully they get used to me
Glad to see you more confident! It gets better every time! Very strong colonies you have there. Enjoy!
Thanks! It helped that I hadn't gotten stung going in to it. @@vees_bees
Great looking garden. New sub from New Brunswick, Canada in zone 5b. 1/2 the job getting done is better than none 🙂
Glad for another zone 5er! We are definitely under represented!
Do you spin wool? We use to have sheep do we have a couple fleeces on hand. We use carted wool in a quilt box for winterizing our bees. It is very effective here in NY. Beautiful wheel.
Yes I do! I've been spinning off and on for about 10 years. Great idea for the hive quilt! I have a couple of bags of wool discard I was going to use as mulch, but maybe I'll save it!
Ohhh, your mother is delightful! I hope she is able to visit you again soon! What a blessing to have had her with you in your new home filling your abode with song, love and new memories. Then gracing us with her beautiful voice and guitar!! Superb! 🐝🌻🌷🌼🪻🐝
Thank you so much! She's where I get a lot of this whole project. But not the musical talent. I can sing a bit, but my brother is the real musician
You're getting there bit by bit and love that you can enjoy some family time with your mum. I enjoyed her little song very much.🎵🎼🎶
She's been a musician my whole life, but I didn't get any of her musical talent. I'm so grateful to have this as a memory of her playing!
Fabulous progress!
Thank you!
Really excited to see your landscape throughout the seasons and then enhanced by your wondrous bees! Fantastic progress!
Thank you! Having it done makes such a difference in moving around the space!
Those apple trees will benefit greatly by your bees!!! I have old heirloom apples, previously doing poorly until I got my bees! It is astonishing what they will do to the landscape! I have to plant my grapes this weekend. I hope you can get your wagon and mower sorted soon. You work SO hard and are very inspirational, but glad you listen to your body! I had to do the same today. Hope your visit with your bees Saturday allowed you to gain more confidence. They are a wonder and nothing to fear! You got this! )o(
Thank you! My brain is apparently a lot younger than my body!
Hi, hope you get your mower sorted out soon and the planter looks amazing. 🌸🌺🏵
Thanks so much! The wagon is back in action, so now I'm just waiting to get the mower back!
When society falls apart, can I come live with you?
Depends, what are you contributing? ;)
@@afargreenhomestead Er ... I've read all the Little House books at least twice?
@@harfnerlol yeah, that's where a lot of us start
Isn't it amazing how devastion can guide us in the direction would should go?
It truly is!
The garden is looking great and you've worked so hard, I'm enjoying your videos and will be back. 🍅🥬🫑🧅🥒🌽🥕🥔
I finally got to start planting yesterday!
This is my first year as a beekeeper! Having a helpful friend is a bonus. Goodluck to both of us.
Absolutely! If I had one piece of advice for new beekeepers, it would be to get a mentor. It's been such a blessing!
Congratulations!! I hope you are feeling a bit more confident and it gets easier! I had no idea Kutnicks was outside of Norwich! That is also an hour or so from me. Thinking you must be South of me if you went to that plant sale. Subbed and wish you all the very best with your bees and compost!
Thanks so much! I've been so fortunate worth where I ended up to have so many resources conveniently at hand!
Darwin got totally freaked out watching this.
Understandable! They've gotten much more civilized now that they're settled in
Living the dream!
Absolutely!
I remember you from the conference. Its a delight to see you bringing this life to fruition. I myself am about to embark on the journey as well along with my sister and her husband. Blessings upon you and your new life
Good luck with yours! It's such a satisfying process!
Hi, it's looking good and you have so much happening. I get the take care of your back thing as we bought an electric wheel barrow to help us move the many loads of dirt for our raised beds. It's made getting the garden set up so much easier because shoveling is the easy bit but moving it over to the beds was hard on us. I planted the strawberries and asparagus into the same bed and they are doing well. I make all of my own fertilizers and pest sprays, much cheaper than the bought ones and better for our soil also I use the Jadam method as it works wonders for my garden. See you on the next video and have a great day. 🐝🌼🐝🌼🐝
It's a fine line on having the right equipment but not just getting everything. I don't NEED a tractor, but...
Thanks for the shoutout! So great to see you and happy you won the raffle!
It was so great to spend the weekend with you!
How fantastic that you're getting free mulch, here in Australia they are charging hundreds per load and I'll never pay that much for it. I'm lucky that the people next door give me their cut grass as they cut it twice a week so there's no seeds to worry about, I use it as a mulch and so far it's doing it's job. The grass does break down quickly but where I live it grows quickly most of the year.I think 2 gates in your garden is better as I added a second gate to mine and it's just so much better now. Enjoy your outing and I look forward to your next video.
Mulch and compost are both a lot harder to get here than I would have expected. In Philadelphia, I could get 9 yards of decent leaf compost for about $200. Here in the country, where you would think it would be easier to come by, I'm struggling to get anything! This tree work was an absolute blessing.
Hi, you're getting lots of jobbies done and love the new boots. I had the same problem with my boots so I bought a pair of Sluggers slipons and they are great. See you soon. 👒🧑🌾🐝
Those are exactly the ones I got! I love them so much, although my feet get tired after an hour or so because of the lack of arches. I'm still about ready to get 3 more pairs!
I look forward to seeing the garden all planted up, I'm in Australia and heading into winter time. 🦘🦘🦘
Thank you, me too! I hope you have a lovely winter! It's my favorite season
I'm so happy for your new life on a beautiful property and I've been going through all of your videos and enjoying them very much. 💚
Thank you so much!
Wow, you have a shed guy! I need a shed guy 😂 thanks for sharing a bit of your day
By sheer coincidence, my next door neighbor is getting a shed from the same guy! We have a number of shed dealers in the area, and this guy isn't even the biggest, so the chance of that happening is crazy!
Excited to follow along on your journey! We just bought a homestead property in Ontario north of the border from you :) We are on a similar journey💗
Yay! We need more northern homesteaders! I still dream about Ontario cherries I had when I was a kid. I hope your journey is exciting!
Enjoyed the video. We're on opposite ends of the country- I garden in California. That's beautiful scenery there. Subscribed 😊
Thank you so much! It's fascinating to me how people growing in so many different climates still have things they share,
