Is buying a DTG printer even worth it?
How much does it costs roughly to have a design or drawing digitized to use for your products?
I only have one and would love to have another!
I just designed and built a new hat hoop for my MELCO XT. It puts the hat right on top of the needle plate and prevents flagging. I am doing a 50 hat order on Richardson 112 Haven't broken a needle yet. I did replace the needle that is doing the color over the seam with an 80/12 and have had much better luck with it. I wasn't breaking needles, but thread. good luck
Same issues . Across the crown, breaks everytime! Ver consistent with the area of stitching. I have a EMT16x, go through 10-12 needles and 6 hats every order. Spent more time trying to cancel out all possibilities - earlier maintenance, trying different designers, trying different style caps, but unfortunately, same results. Spoke to many melco Customer care reps, and I did get different answers. Customer care is not even open on weekends, so i suggest not to work on your orders on the weekends. Everytime I ran the emt16x, I’m on the phone with customer care.. Crazy part, I was offered a return, but I needed to pay 3k for my refund. Told sales rep I could not come up with money right away. 2 months later, and little activity on the machine ( I was working with melco rep 1 on 1 to try and fix issue ), Melco could not keep their word on the refund, mind u, the offer of refund did not have a expiration date. Terrible company . Terrible service, terrible product. Good luck in your adventure . Just to ease your pain, I am in the same situation as you, so you are not alone.
I recognize this place
That's awesome! I can't even get one, it must be really exciting. Hubby don't want me paying that much for that machine so I am just hoping that someday I will buy one. Would really love to see it and try it out! Congrats on your business!!!
Stay away from Ricoma, there in Florida and Chinese, they bait and switch on the financing show low and switch to high primarily targeting low income folks. Henry Ma, Mao, anyone bueller?. Melco is awesome and the service AREA is what folks need to keep in mind. Happy in Texas is good and brother is great for the home folks. Melco would be my choice as well.
i also heard bad things about melco. that sucks because you invested in a bunch of them. i follow another guy who has a print shop at his house and he bought 1 melco like yours and he had problems with it too and he then purchased a tajima that has self auto tensioning and thats legit but it does cost like 20 or 30k from what i was told for that machine when i called tajima. expensive vs these but i guess consistency is key for large production. But you are saying that theses melcos are perfect for flats like sweaters and shirts but just not for hats? i was tempted to buy one for sweaters and sweatpants to test the waters but damn this makes me not want to give it a try.
Melco builds great machines, they always did. The problem is not the machines, but the person operating them, or the lack of understanding/knowledge that is required to produce good embroidery. I work with most commercial embroidery machine brands, older and newer models. And most of the times i had to do lots of adjustments, retro fitting, updates and modifications to the machines and attachments to get a crisp stitching. Remember that sales reps, the majority of them never owned an embroidery machine or have experience running them. What kind of advice do you expect to get from them? If you decide to get into this industry, before investing in state of the art equipment or technology make sure you will have someone with the expertise to run them. Cheers!!!
I run two single head Barudan Pro 3’s, messing up one hat or less per hundred is on par for Richardson 112’s. I recently got my Bluetooth manager set up which makes file transfer much easier than using a thumb drive. Some complex designs take two or three tweaks before I share that with the second machine for production. I have some designs that I have tweaked to run great on a Richardson, but would look terrible on a flat. My guess is that you will miss the ease of data transfer the most when you leave Melco. Keep up the grind
Bluetooth Manager, you talking about the wilcom wifi Connect or another one?
@@aceboogie959 no, Barudan sells their version, contact them for info
What brand of hats do you use for embroidery?
I got a 95% refund of the 3 Melco's I had, had them for a month, problems problem's. Made the decision to send them back before it was too late. Tajima or Barudan or nothing,
So which brand & model did you end up buying after the Melco…Just curious. Thanks!

You shouldn't have to go to a forum to ask how to use the machine. Melco should be taking care of your questions. I don't understand your reasoning to ask random people. Personally, I think if you're embroidering on thick material, I don't think you need stabilizer. Maybe that would take the thickness out of your hats or hats without the seam in the front.
I run 3 melcos. If your machines are in spec according Mark, your problem is 100% hooping. You need to get your center seam flat or you’re going to keep breaking needles and that’s true for any machine. We also run an 8 head Ricoma. Once we figured out how to hoop 112s correctly, trashing one has become a very rare occurrence, like maybe 1/300. We also stopped using backing with the 112s and that helped with clean up. Don’t give up on your melcos just yet.
Thank you for this video . I needed this
I have a used Melco Bravo. I love it. When I had an issue w a stitch out, I asked Samantha on the Friday live show & she suggested corrections. I would love to add the 16x but I do individual orders. I'm still a hobbyist. Good luck & do great! Look at Angela Jasmina for inspiration. She grew her business enormously too.
How did you go about marketing it and scaling it ?
Thank you for the motivation
Thank you for the awesome review! We look forward to watching your business flourish. Please let us know if you have any questions along the way!
I have honestly given my EMT-16x an honest workout for 3 years and want to get rid of it. I have never been able to solve my issues because Melco blames the digitizer and the digitizers blame Melco. I use well know, respected digitizers and here is how I know it is Melco.... I can sew 2 flats (polos)...one will sew perfectly without issues while the 2nd will have constant thread breaks and a ton of missed trims despite not changing a single setting or material between either of them. In terms of Richardson caps...my EMT16x stuggles and the quality sucks after all the sewing issues getting through just one cap. I have done all my maintenance, always check my acti-feed & presser foot adjustments before each job and done head timing, hook timing, and other adjustments to no avail. I use Magna-Glide bobbins and Madeira threa exclusively. The back of my sewout always look like someone puked a pile of thread out and it is full of loops and bobbin thread going from one color change to the next without trimming. I have given this machine about as much of an honest, patient try and am looking into a Barudan machine now to replace this one. Good Luck but if you have ANY problems like I do, you will only be made to loook like an incompetent, unskilled embroiderer every step of the way.
Pretty confusing out there in the market -- I've watched people who love their Melco's and those who have pushed their Melco's to the corner of their shop and never powered them back on.
Thanks for the info. How important is marketing when trying to generate sales ?
How are you going with your Melco's ? I have been having heaps of problems.
Good shit, Bro. You’re openness is appreciated. Wish you continued success!!
I'm thinking about starting a embroidery business myself, Listening to you, helps me to understand the challenges that lie ahead, I need to get my family in a better position for the future. You said some good information about what to expect, how not to give up on your dreams or goals.
This, gives me hope, from one good ol boy to another, starting a clothing brand as a side hustle that is having some “little” success, you show me that it is possible.. I started Notch 7 15:45 a few months ago. If you’re into giving out pointers, I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think. Thank you for the video and being uncomfortable! I feel ya
Good insight, thanks for the vid
I see a few comments about thread breaks and bobbin tension...how has that been going? Can't wait for the update video!
YOU KNOW that is a amazing vid cos you are just putting yourself out here, dumping all the issue you had , just keep doing it man , it does touch a lot of us who just starting in that journey
Customer service when you call is good. I have issues with my machine as well. My rep is difficult to deal with, the Fb groups are terrible as they rather harp on your training or lack there of rather than help most of the time. Mostly a group of trainers stressing their paid importance like car salesman for a machine that is supposed to be an easier machine than others. I have been hesitant on purchasing another and digging a bigger hole. We are going to the open house to see if it changes our opinions.
my son has just started his own brand and i do all his embroidery and HTV on t-shirts and hoodies with my home business. now we are going into hats so we have now purchased a 15-needle embroidery machine that will be delivered next week. I hope we duplicate a little of your success.
Love the video and I have learned a lot.
I use a card board box lol
Honestly I feel u on the cringe of making videos I tried it once and almost died lol but very inspirational starting a clothing brand now and I have a tone of ideas and I’m sure most will fail but all u need is one but thanks for the content and u got a new sub!!
Following and can't wait to watch your shop buildout and grow
Thank you so much!! I look forward to sharing it with you!
Guess you worked out the kinks?
on the "dad" hats yes, still working them out on structured hats though.
I have been doing quite a bit of research lately, and I would look into ZSK or Tajima. Those ZSK machines are built like a tank and are fast.Hope things work out for you.
I've heard the same about Melco. I currently have 2 older Happy machines and love them but need to upgrade to take it to the next level, not near your level but running one hat on a single head is brutal when you get big orders. Love the honestly and the videos you put out. Also love your shop! MASSIVE!!!! Maybe a shop tour video in the future
Barudan is the best embroidery machine brand out there.
Stumbled across your channel - you nailed it and the other comments as well. We love the transparency and you did great with the video. I"m off not to go watch your other videos!
Thank you so much for the kind words and support!
When are you doing a shop update? I would love to see more about your business
Hey! I will have a video update by the weekend!
I appreciate your pro an cons o. Starting your business. I'm wanting to start business an and all knowledge is great to me. Look forward to more videos from your about business or even fishing
Thank you so much!
Love your story,
Thank you!
wow Jason. We wish you all the best!!!
Thank you!
What is the price of the machine??
Usually about $13k
@@jasonpardue Thanks bud
Just found your video I'm looking to get embroidery machine now that you have had it for 2 months what do you think of machine?
Hey Todd, Right now I have a love hat relationship with the machines. They have a really hard time embroidering certain hat styles but I have also created some really great products with it as well. I'll be doing a follow up video about them soon.
Hey thanks for the honesty can you tell us how you ship and why was the Post office having a go at you. I'd love to see you screen print so please do one
We still ship USPS just based off of cost. I was honestly not charging properly and I didn't have things weighed out properly which messed their systems up.
Good content. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Where did you market that promo that boosted you back up?
I did Facebook/IG marketing but unfortunately they change their rules and algorithms up so much it's not the same. I couldn't get the same results now even if I tried
New Sub!! Great content, I appreciate you sharing your Journey.
Thank you so much!
Just came across your video. Did you start a brand of your own or did you have other companies wanting to print their logos, business shirts etc from you.
I started my own clothing brand and was able to grow it. We just started taking on clients for custom work
