Was there in 2007 and it was dead then. Can’t imagine what it is like now.
No fond memory of Sheppard. What was to be a 10 week Finance Course stretched to 16 weeks because the Air Force reduced number of assignees to AFSC. Had to wait 6 weeks for classes to fill up before it started. Spent most of the extra time on KP with the rest of the Finance orphans.
Mike, I have to up your story a little. In 1961 I was assigned to Sheppard and the squadron I was assigned to stopped taking any new PATS into the squadron as they were starting to re model all the barracks from the old open bay to the new separate 4 man rooms. This meant that our group was the last PATS the 61st squadron took in. The squadron still had to supply KP's to the chow hall as we still had students and staff using it. Long story short, our group of 15 guys pulled 16 weeks of straight KP before we could even get assigned to a school. The up side to my experience was that the 61st squadron was a recip engine squadron , and we 15 guys were the only ones from the 61st to get Jet engine maintenance school as that was the only class they had going then. That provided me with a life long vocation that I turned into 38 years at American Airlines. Keep in mind that Basic Training was only 8 weeks at that time also...
I think that is or was common at most tech school bases. I also understand that those in the reserves/guard "go first" to class so that they can return home while the active duty waits for their turn in class.
@@billexusaf1542 Thanks that was interesting. Was in the 62nd squadron 63-64. Started in open bay then transitioned to 3 men room barracks.
I grew up on North Beverly Drive in the 40s,50 but still feel like it's home. Guess I'll spend my remaining years in Bacliff, Texas.

All cool 90 LUCKY!!, well heres this i go 3 or 4 times each summer, i even went when i was litteler than a year old. that was the only waterpark i knew until last year when the new berkbernett waterpark opened im going there tomorrow. and im going to white waters in july, i have REALLY FUN SUMMERS!!!!!!!
oh and when i told you i went to castaway cove when i was younger than one, im eleven now so ive gone there all my life and i always will
