Do you advertise that you pickup scrap and about how much do you charge?
@@inthewebnotoftheweb I advertise on Facebook buy and sell groups, I only charge for Freon items ($5 for small stuff) $30 on fridges. Just because they are a pain to deal with. And televisions because it’s outrageous prices here for tv disposal at recycling centers and the dump.

You should have used a chisel edit: with a mallet
when you use your tools wrong, you ruin them. go grab yerself a chisel or maul and stop actin a jackass in the shop

Nothing. They don't factor in time spent. It doesn't actually make them any profit. They don't factor in time spent or machine costs etc. I've scrapped before and it's a losing game
@@Iburn247 I don’t know man, I make a good portion of extra money. This is only a hobby so it really doesn’t matter on time, it’s all for fun.
As far as the price, it was roughly $110 a couple years back, (Got mine as a gift)either way it turns my $1 pound wire into $2.30 a pound of number 2 copper. Easy hangout, put on some music or watch tv and run wire through the stripper.

I tried reselling them, $3 on eBay. Nobody was interested. Had probably 150 of them at one point. All broke down now.

What do you get for them ?
Where I live, it costs average of $35-$60 to dispose of them at the dump. I charge $10 per flatscreen dropped off and $20 per flatscreen picked up. $20 on tubes dropped off and $30 picked up. I have a deal worked out with the current recycler, so I pay little to nothing. It helps everyone out. I make some $. People save some $ and the tv guy gets tvs.

What pays the most and is time and cost effective?
I get all my scrap for free. Copper and brass pays up there. But I seem to make more on the sheet iron per year ( sheet iron can have good stuff like brass, copper and aluminum, I tear that stuff down and keep 55 gallon drums around to fill with all my good stuff. Now if you’re also throwing in ewaste (electronics scrap) you get a little bit of everything. Just pull the boards and set them aside in a drum and sell them off. If you wanna make a little bit more you can depopulate all the copper, brass, aluminum pieces and still make money on the boards, assuming you have a scrap yard that takes ewaste, precious metal components as well. Everyone scraps differently and values their time differently as well. In the end goal, whatever works best for you. It’s taken me about 3-4 years of scrapping and I’m still changing up the way I do things.

Yeah but I get all kinds of other goodies I’m stockpiling. Copper brass Ewaste. So some pickups are worth it. I have to take sheet iron in asap. Only have a 2 car garage to work in.

At the moment prices are terrible, I keep taking stuff in though, I’m saving up all my more expensive metals. Stockpiling copper, wire, stainless, acr, ETC. It’s not too bad though cause my tv business kinda makes up for low prices on sheet iron right now. Usually I’d bring in about $200-$280 per ton when prices were good.
It’s just a quick 5 minute drive after work to dump the crappy metal off at the yard.
@@MikeDoesStuff101 still, wouldn't it be better for you and easier on your vehicle to have a trailer for it? You could haul more stuff, maximize your money, and save the interior of your vehicle.
@@nunyabusiness3421 that’s funny you said that, I got a friend that’s redoing the floors of a 5x8 trailer with a nice ramp, taking out the old floor and putting in treated wood flooring They also putting the hitch and trailer lights on the van for $650 for everything. Should be done fairly soon!
