    • @caitlinjanet_
      @caitlinjanet_ Před 13 dny

      I’m not sure what the exact rules are, but I would advise against it only because the units aren’t really big enough to have another person stay, plus you’ll have 3 other roommates living there too. But you can definitely have people over to hang out :)

      I don’t know too much unfortunately, my experience has been only in ski towns so it’s a little different. I know that organising a house can be the hardest part, so just making sure you have plenty of savings to support yourself as your getting set up would be my main advice!

    • @caitlinjanet_
      @caitlinjanet_ Před 26 dny

      Hey! I go with Best Quote IEC insurance they’re really good and easy to use. For mine I think I did $200,000 with $0 excess which cost us about $1500 each (this was 2 years ago). If you want to risk it and spend less, do a higher excess but keep the coverage high. Atleast $100,000 in case of a hospital stay, bills can add up very fast! And make sure you get the winter sports coverage, definitely needed! I broke my wrist my first winter and it cost me almost 3K which I got back thankfully.

    thanks for all these videos! wondering if you know if you’re required to open a bank account at a canadian bank/own a canadian credit card or something like that? or can i just use my wise visa travel card (i’m aussie) to pay for rent and stuff like that?

    • @caitlinjanet_
      @caitlinjanet_ Před 26 dny

      Hey! Great Q, I’m not sure actually, might be worth searching on the IEC Facebook group. I do know a lot of people that use Wise and other options like that, but I still think it’s handy having the Canadian bank account in case for some reason your other card doesn’t work. We are with CIBC and pay $0 fees for the first 2 years. We also have a Credit Card now which is handy because sometimes other cards don’t work for some places (like the usa, or certain restaurants) and for things (hotels sometimes only accept CC, renting cars, big payments like flights when your debit has a limit). Hope that helps!

      Hey! That’s awesome that you’re planning on coming over. There is The Working Holiday Club who are a great company for helping you with your visa and getting a job. However my year they couldn’t guarantee me housing and I had already done my visa alone so didn’t feel I needed to spend my money on a company. It is scarier but definitely can be done as long as you spend your time now researching as much as possible so that you feel more confident. I watched a lot of YT, and I also spent a lot of time on the IEC Facebook group reading about everyone’s experience.

    • @caitlinjanet_

      Hey! Great Q! Definitely make sure you get your visa first, it’s a much longer process and some countries only open for visas certain times of the year! The visa can take a few months to get approved. I just talked about this in my recent q&a if you want more details! And then for work it’s pretty easy to keep working from winter to summer or to get a year round position if you have a qualification (trade, management, etc).
