Unlike TrillyBoo, I have never heard Paul Brady's original. That said, I found Joe's voice to be consciously restrained, graceful and in perfect pitch. Mr. O'Meara understands the fragility of the lyrics and allowed his voice to be a wonderful vehicle in which to communicate the song writer's reflection/realization of love abandoned. Touching and soul stirring. Can't wait to hear to hear more.
Very nice version. Kate and I used to sing this all the time and pretend we were the Simon Sisters. It's a lovely song. But why is there such an abiding melancholy in the Celts? Seems these should be good memories, yet they are all sad.

I've listened to many, many covers of this beautiful, sad song. Some I've heard are not too good, some others just ok, a few pretty good...but so far I like yours the best. It's your vocals, your delivery, the expression in your voice and the overall richness of your voice. I guess this song is somewhat difficult for people to sing and very few people can sing it like Ralph. Nanci Griffith does a great version but of course she is a professional & has a very good singing voice.
