This is a 5 year elevator buffer test. The car was fully loaded with 3500 lbs and traveling at 500 fpm.
Elevator crushes Watermelon

Who doesn't want to see what would happen to an watermelon being crushed by an full loaded 5000 lb elevator going 350 fpm! So this is a typical slower elevator and it didn't deserve a full size watermelon. It deserved a mini watermelon. Maybe I will do a larger one on a faster elevator in the future, but feel free to give me some ideas. Thanks for watching. Want to watch a Cantaloupe get crushe...
Elevator vs. Basketball

So I am sitting there waiting for the state inspector. I have a hour before he shows up and the idea hits me. One of my kids left a basketball in the back of my work truck! Well, that's when I decided to see happen if I took a fully loaded 5000lb elevator an ran it down on top of a basketball at 350 fpm. Enjoy and please give me some more ideas!

Interesting how the momentum of the governor rope pulls the tail sheave up like that. I’ve done many buffer tests but never seen one from the pit.

Can you tell the people who are checking this buffer test first what is the contract speed and from which floor is the car traveling 🤔 please are you field maintenance mechanic then only 😉 loaded car with test weights or empty car.
the only job where you try to destroy equipment. exploding safeties raining down the hatch is my favorite!

An old Otis lift. The pit could do with sweeping, but at least the buffer test looks like a pass
