I subscribed to Chef Jean-Pierre's current CZcams channel about a year ago and he is my favorite. I have learned more from him than any other chef on CZcams, TV, or anywhere. I love seeing these old shows, he still has the same energy today! Thank you for bringing us these great shows.

The upgrade does take it to a whole new level.
As a singer, I noticed when I had the chance to track with very expensive microphones it was much easier to get a pleasant tone, but it was also deceptive: they tend to compensate for poor tone, so I unconsciously sang with less body and even less brightness. With cheaper microphones, I really have to make sure my tone is on point right at the source. I'm actually happy with the LX because now it's me that has to use more support and projection to compensate for the thinner mic tone. Or maybe I just have buyer remorse and I'm writing a delusional monologue to convince me I made the right choice. 😂
As long as you’re happy with your results and you’re getting what you need, that’s all that matters in the end. The end listener never cares what mic you used, only what they feel.

I absolutely love to watch his videos and it’s so fun to see him at this age. I’ve noticed 2 things that he did here that he doesn’t do now. One is he said sear the moisture into the meat, now he says it’s not about searing to keep the moisture in now it’s just about the Maillard reaction. Second was he said he is going to reduce the port wine. Now he says you don’t need to reduce a port or other fortified wine.

Is the shockmount for this mic sturdy? I need a shockmount for my OC818 but the original is more than 100 USD and I need 2. Getting this shockmount seems like a good alternative if it's any good. Of course I don't want to damage my pricy mic if it fails.

The v10 shockmount is ok, not great. I’d totally trust it with a v10, but I don’t know if I’d long-term trust it with an OC818, to be honest. You may want to look at the Rycote Invision instead.

Is it me or is there like no low end on that thing? Or did you engage a high pass?
HP at 120hz. You don't need all that low end for character voice work, or for dialogue. It just gets in the way. You just need very intelligible midrange.

I'm using a Neumann MT-48, which is not very user friendly. But, all you would really need is a good interface with phantom power. If you have a Sweetwater rep, ask them what would suit your workflow.
