The Richard Smith Guitar Trio in Raalte 2009 Rare reunion gig for Rich with brothers Rob (rhythm) and Sam (bass). Amazing guitarist displays super improvisational flair and technical mastery. Richard's ability to accurately recreate Chet's wonderful arrangements is second to none. Guitarists should check out his "Lickipedia" on youtube. I love the fact that Rich plays a very melodic improvised ...

The Richard Smith Guitar Trio 2009 Rare reunion gig for Rich with brothers Rob (rhythm) and Sam (bass). The first tune is a great example of Richard combining country fingerstyle with melodic jazz improvisation and the second a fantastic rendition of Chet's classic. Rich's other influences include Jerry Reed, Django Reinhardt, Joe Pass, Lenny Breau and Albert Lee There are many other clips from...

The Richard Smith Guitar Trio, Nashville 1999 Richard plays his own instrumental composition "Strike It Rich!" with brothers Sam (Bass) and Rob (Rhythm). Influenced by Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed in a melodic banjo style, this shows Richard's amazing ability to switch from fingerpicking to hot flatpicking (with a thumbpick) on a nylon string guitar. Incredible technique! One of the all time grea...

Richard Smith - was better at 11 than I am at 71 - without a doubt among the greates guitarists alive or passed on.

Yep.....Saw him at the Chet Convention a few times in Nashville. He is an incredible talent. About 6 years ago, he even came to my neck in the woods to perform at the Old Courthouse in Inverness, FL. It was only 1/2 drive, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him again after many years.

What I love about musicians/artists ... they try to encourage the next generation. Bravo to Chet and I can also mention the great Les Paul as well, who was playing in his own club right close to the end with his band and called up anyone on stage to perform alongside.

Great talent of course, but I'm blown away by Chet's generosity - bringing this young lad on stage, praising him and then giving him a simple rhythm and bass backup to let him shine. What a wonderful man to mentor talent like that - truly a generous soul.

Trying to figure out the fingerings for BK's Old Devil Moon since 1988, when I randomly got it taped from some local radio station and blew my mind... Then finding the song in Just Friends album (damn! close, but different)... Later I attended a gig of the man himself in the early 90's, but he didn't play that tune... And eventually found *the* version in Montreux '73 live recording... Well, 33 years later I find the master in front of my eyes, doing what I somehow suspected when I had no idea of jazz, or what a II-V-I was at all. A long way, a lot of things learnt, but the thrill is still alive and stronger than ever. Thank you for sharing this gem.
