    Thanks for the video. Though in several other videos I've watched they say the screws shouldn't be more than 1.5 inches apart on those types of flashings. Also there's a better way to seal when on a seam. I think they use "Z Bars" (???) to lift the flashing above the seam and mount it on a perfectly flat piece of metal. The Z bars mount flush with the seam and direct water off to the side as it's angled like a diamond. Just what I've seen. Might consider looking it up for future installs. One last thing, ditch the music or turn it down considerably. It is very distracting and over competing with your narrating. Cheers

    In the closeup you can see the screws didn't penetrate the inside tube and instead just pushed it out. Kinda defeats the purpose

      @@brennanrmorrow at 14:47 you can see at least one of them, if you look up a bit I believe you can see two of them. This was actually helpful for me as I realized you need to pre-drill the holes on these to avoid that problem.

      We just needed do a little wiggling to get the top tube assemble to sit correctly and adjust the flashing a bit.

      @@ardwyer5199 Good eye, we just had to spin the tube about and get everything seated correctly. I was a reasonable run, and they can get a little finicky.

      Hello, It has a photo sensor so if there is a light shining on it it might be tripping the photo sensor. Porch lights are often the issue.

    How come when I turn the lights on and they go on but when I put it on 6 hrs the lights go off

      This is because there is a photo cell. So if its light outside, (or there is a light shining on the timer) it will turn off, thinking its daylight out. A much less probability is that the timer is bad an needs to be replaced

    So I just realized that the base that secures into the ceiling of mine is coming out it looks like one of these anchors broke pulled through the drywall. How to I approach fixing this?

      You can use Sheetrock screws around the trim where there are divots for the screws. this will allow you to re secure the bottom tube assemble. Hope that helps.

      We used a bungee and had it clipped to the gutter. Nowadays we have a ladder lock that clips onto the gutter or the fascia.

    If you have an existing fan in the ceiling (that hasn't worked in years) can you skip several steps and use the existing hole? By the way, I live in a Mobile Home is there any reason that would make a difference?

      Yes you can use the fan hole, IF its less than the size of the Solatube. That said, note that it is definitely not easier, but harder for our years of experience. We do these sorts of installs when the location of the fan is the perfect location for the tube, otherwise, we avoid it fan location. Another note the solatube can have a bathroom van accessory added.

      Also we don’t cut the ceiling until the roof is done. People tend to stare at their ceilings more than their roof, so if you have to move the tube for some unforeseen reason... you can repair the roof easier than the interior drywall finish. Certified solatube and velux installer. Just my 2 cents

I'm not really sure how you could cut the roof before the ceiling as the ceiling location is the most important thing for the customer and what we make sure we get just perfect. I've been installing Solatube now for 16 years using this technique and it is not failed. In our current generation we have some new techniques we use a little different than the video here as this video was filmed a long time ago but the process is almost identical the small changes. So if you don't call cut the ceiling first how do you know where to locate the roof penetration without overly crawling the Attic, etc?

      Thanks the goal was to give a simple example for everyone to make it easier to change out the night light if the batteries need changing or if the diffuser needs to be. I'm really glad this helps we generally send it to our customers so they can review it if they need to do maintenance.

      I would not suggest sun tunnel. Quality is important to me. A soul tube would be a little bit expensive for a shed. A great solution would be this product Redilightusa.com

      This is the technique they use in New Zealand.
