Leon explains how the HRU works to automatically release (water pressure) and start (water contact) an EPRIB when the ship sinks and you find no time to get your EPIRB (e.g. in case of collision at sea). An essential piece of equipment for any sailor be it ocean, offshore or coastal sailing.

Leon explains what's new on the most modern EPIRB models and why also coastal sailors might wish to carry an EPIRB, preferably with an Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU), as a second mean of distress call, further to the VHF.
