The Letterman Podcast 142 Our Tribute To Nicole Ryan With Our Good Friend J Ryan #liveitwhileyagotit
Episode 142 of The Letterman Podcast
This episode takes a different tone as we memorialize Nicole Ryan, a cherished friend and an integral part of The Letterman Podcast community from the very beginning, who passed away after a courageous battle with MS.
In this deeply personal conversation, Nicole’s husband and frequent guest on our show, J Ryan, joins Mike exactly one month after Nicole’s passing. Together, they share some of the events and details of Nicole’s final days and give an honest update on how J is navigating through this incredibly painful time.
Though somber and, at times, raw, J and Mike have a frank and vulnerable discussion about life, love, loss, and the lessons we learn along the way.
There’s also some Letterman talk, including J’s heartfelt gratitude to Worldwide Pants and other figures who have extended their condolences.
Nicole’s radiant smile, infectious laugh, and her immense showbiz expertise and advice will never be forgotten. She will forever remain a beloved member of The Letterman Podcast family.
This episode drops on what may be the most difficult birthday J has faced in recent memory. From all of us in The Letterman Podcast community, we send J our deepest empathy, sympathy, support, and, most of all, love.

Brad Gilmore should host a real late night talk show on TV because he knows how late night TV works. Also, I am glad that he fell in love with late night TV very early on in his life. That reminds me of me because I fell in love with late night TV when I was 8. I watched Letterman, Conan, Kilborn, Ferguson, and Daly on Fridays and during the summer, and then Johnny Carson passed away. When that happened, and when my parents started talking about him, I started watching his show. That led me to Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Tom Snyder, Craig Ferguson, Arsenio Hall, and Spike Feresten among others. Back then, I have always been trying to entertain myself and others, but I didn't know how to do that. After watching all of the late night talk show hosts, I realized that I could entertain people on a late night talk show host. That's when I started thinking about hosting a late night talk show on TV, and that led to me hosting Weeknight Update on CZcams, but that's not the point. Brad Gilmore has a bright future ahead of him. That's for sure.

I got to meet Anton on Nov 15 2004 (Jerry Springfield, Jamie Oliver) after the show and he was super friendly and took the time to have a photo with this big dork. Thank you Anton for taking the time. It meant a lot. I actually have purchased the old Blue Yamaha kit that Anton played on from 86-92 around there. I know he had a wrapped kit with those white covers on them. I'm pretty sure that was the same kit. I love how it plays. David Letterman has influenced so many people, and Chris was one of those people. I hope that he will meet Dave soon. Chris is amazing. Also, we have all been influenced by Dave in many different ways, and Dave made it possible for all of us to be here on CZcams.

It's exciting to hear about the upcoming developments at Newcomb's Ranch. There will be so much to do under one roof...food, drinks, merch to buy, stand up comedy, live music, podcast recordings, etc. It would be cool to get Letterman's old desk in there and do a Late Night Playset before a live audience.

The thing I always liked about Shannon, was she was so professional and poised, then she would roar with laughter almost every time Dave mocked or smacked around all her products. Super beautiful inside and out person, and never took anything seriously. My mom was a breast cancer survivor so I really appreciate her story about that too.

She was a great regular... The Rupert Jee Of Toys! BTW if you ever want to interview me for the Pod, I submitted an email to CBSMailbag in 2003 which was used as "Letter Number 1" "Dear Dave, Does Rupert Jee get invited to all the staff parties?" This spawned an hilarious skit where Rupert called Dave a "tightass"
